Book excerpt: I had figured it out. Jesus was a fake. He was a saviour that let my mother die. He was a father that hated me and abandoned me. He was a friend who stood by and watched as I tried to kill myself. I wasn't going to be deceived... I don't know you. I don't know what you're dealing with or what path you're on, but I know that you have hurt—deeply. I also know that you're tired of hearing that everything's going to be all right and that all things work together for good for those that love God. I can't even begin to tell you how much it hurt when my mom died, but I can tell you it hurt even more when Dad couldn't stand the sight of me because I looked like her. No one knew what to say to me. No one knew how to respond when I lashed out with hatred and anger. I didn't even know what to do. But God knew exactly what to do. It wasn't all butterflies and flowers. Even though scars of pain and regret will haunt me for the rest of my life, everything did work out for good in the end. But I'm not here to tell you. I'm here to show you. This is my story.

Book Synopsis Village of Unsettled Yearnings by : Leonard Neufeldt
Download or read book Village of Unsettled Yearnings written by Leonard Neufeldt and published by TouchWood Editions. This book was released on 2002 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concensus and dissent, persistence and rapid change were at the heart of Yarrow's rich cultural life. These tensions, especially the inevitability of assimilation, walked hand in hand with the young pioneer settlers born in Russia and the next generation born in Canada. There was no possibility that the new generation would be absorbed into a Russian colony ethos or would move elsewhere in order to perpetuate it. Those who grew up in the early years of this community cannot go home again save in memory; the memories of a way of life and its webs of relationships and their meanings will probably die with that generation or those just a few years younger. "Village of Unsettled Yearnings" harnesses these memories to the surviving records and gives words to them.

Book Synopsis Tales from the Marquette Hardwood by : Tom Pipines
Download or read book Tales from the Marquette Hardwood written by Tom Pipines and published by Sports Publishing LLC. This book was released on 2005 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marquette University Men's Basketball has a long and storied tradition. Tales of Marquette Basketball takes a look at the high, and low points from McGuire to Crean and everything in between by weaving personal interviews with many great Marquette players and coaches including Hank Raymonds, Rick Majerus, Mike Deane, Tom Crean, Glenn 'Doc' Rivers, Jim Mcllvaine, Travis Diener and Tony Smith as they give insight to memorable moments, both on and off the court. Under the colorful Coach Al McGuire, Marquette University basketball flourished as one of the top collegiate programs in the country. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, the super salesman made successful pitches to some of America's finest young players. These young men experienced an entirely different way of life. But the life lessons they learned from Al prepared them for success-in the basketball arena-and beyond. Behind the scenes stories, based on numerous interviews, will help give unique insight to this mesmerizing personality. Of course, the focal point is that magic carpet ride to the 1977 NCAA Championship! Many observers wondered if the once proud Marquette program would ever again approach the standards set by Al McGuire. Exit Bob Dukiet, enter Kevin O'Neill, in 1989. The ultra intense assistant coach at Arizona used salty language, but in his fifth season at the helm, K.O. took Marquette to the NCAA's Sweet Sixteen. In his fourth season, Crean and All-American Dwyane Wade led Marquette to the Conference USA championship and a return to the Final Four! Somehow, the Marquette program had come full circle. Before his death, Al McGuire spent hours just talking with Tom Crean. In some ways, Al became the father Tomnever had. We hope you enjoy these Tales of Marquette Basketball.
Book Synopsis Money Well Spent? by : Michael Grabell
Download or read book Money Well Spent? written by Michael Grabell and published by PublicAffairs. This book was released on 2012-01-31 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 2012 presidential campaign will, above all else, be a referendum on the Obama administration's handling of the financial crisis, recalling the period when Obama's "audacity of hope" met the austerity of reality. Central to this is the ''American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009'' -- the largest economic recovery plan in American history. Senator Mitch McConnell gave a taste of the enormity of the money committed: if you had spent 1 million a day since Jesus was born, it still would not add up to the price tag of the stimulus package. A nearly entirely partisan piece of legislation -- Democrats voted for it, Republicans against -- the story of how the bill was passed and, more importantly, how the money was spent and to what effect, is known barely at all. Stepping outside the political fray, ProPublica's Michael Grabell offers a perceptive, balanced, and dramatic story of what happened to the tax payers' money, pursuing the big question through behind-the-scenes interviews and on-the-ground reporting in more than a dozen states across the country.
