Top of the heap: Alvi Drake, an aged pro skateboarder whose lone thrill is a pill-fueled escape from the terror of past ghosts. Once news hits of the disappearance of an old flame, Alvi’s plummet smashes through rock bottom, sending him on a quest to find her. With help from his fellow damned (Mongo, Chester and Faye), he spirals through neon wilderness, stumbling upon an underground of sex and drug trafficking, the depths of which street life has yet to take him. Blinded by love and dismissing the reality of his actions, this hunt for another lost angel could be the biggest mistake in his track ridden life. LONG SYNOPSIS (with BLURBS) The underbelly of Los Angeles, 2008; a place where hometown hard-lucks and wayward hustlers scrounge for hope in gutters. Blinded by love and dismissing the reality of his actions, this hunt for another lost angel could be the biggest mistake in his track ridden life. Praise for The Neon Lights are Veins: “Knight’s slangy prose is a perfect fit for characters whose dreams die slowly or explosively.” —Publishers Weekly “The Neon Lights Are Veins is a dope-fueled gutter-punk odyssey through a gaudy nightmare version of Los Angeles. With echoes of James Ellroy and Nathanael West, Knight carves out his own bit of L.A. crime-writing turf in this impressive debut.” —Richard Lange, author of Dead Boys, This Wicked World, Angel Baby, Sweet Nothing and The Smack “Nolan Knight has written a dark, dirty and entertaining sewer ride through the neon-lit streets of Los Angeles. Imagine Nathanael West and Darby Crash writing a 21st century noir and you’ve got The Neon Lights Are Veins. Highly recommended.” —Jim Ruland, author of Forest of Fortune, My Damage: The Story of a Punk Rock Survivor and Do What You Want: The Story of Bad Religion “Nolan Knight is at the forefront of Hard-Ass-Noir. He’s the mad hatter of words and dark moody storytelling. He’s a creative crime-pugilist!” —Frank Bill, author of Crimes in Southern Indiana, Donnybrook and The Savage “Nolan Knight’s The Neon Lights Are Veins is unlike anything I’ve read before (and that’s saying something!). The novel’s story is a fast-paced mystery and caper, dragging the reader through the underbelly of the Los Angeles night, but most impressive is Knight’s style: in your face and no-holds-barred.” —Steph Post, author of Lightwood and Miraculum “High action. Very fast paced. A great read. Highly Recommended.” —S.W. Lauden, author of Bad Citizen Corporation and Grizzly Season

Los Angeles—the siren, the beast—is the central antagonist within these eleven masterful, stylistically-diverse short stories. Nolan Knight maneuvers the City to destroy with open arms, its warm torments ushered for lonesome dreamers, outcasts, squares, con men and have-nots. A couple on the run fouls-up by taking refuge in a Mid-City roach motel; a gambler scrambles to save his life through a gauntlet of loan sharks; a young gang member’s dream of becoming a famous T.V. chef are dashed by turf warfare; these sordid tales and more await. Come for the sunshine, stay for the dread. No one is spared Beneath the Black Palms, the most unforgettable short story collection in recent years. Book excerpt: Lena Madadhi is desperate, a middle-aged arts teacher in Los Angeles whose teen daughter has been abducted. When seeking help from a private investigator, Joe Delancey, she finds he is out on a case at a Central Valley truck stop, deep undercover among truckers, prostitutes and nomads—entrenched in a doomsday sect called Gallows Dome. The further Lena digs to find Joe, the deeper she submerges into The Dome’s hellscape, spiraling closer toward her daughter’s whereabouts than she could ever imagine. An unflinching look at the dark side of family and faith, Nolan Knight’s Gallows Dome tackles a current American landscape whose thoughts and prayers help flap its flags at half-mast—teetering on the brink of total collapse. Critical Acclaim for Gallows Dome: “Poet Vincente Huidobro said that the writer’s job is quite simple: Invent new worlds and be careful what you say. That’s exactly what Nolan Knight does, and does wonderfully.” —James Sallis, author of Drive and Sarah Jane “This no-holds-barred noir from a writer to watch will grab readers’ attention, and regardless of the graphically described violence, it’s fun.” —Library Journal “Forget the glitz and glam of Hollywood, Knight gives us a ride in the real California crime machine rolling beyond the freeway off ramps.” —Tom Pitts, author of Coldwater and Hustle “Beyond Knight’s mastery of setting are his characters, as he draws complicated heroes & villains—fathers, mothers & misfits alike—that feel absolutely heartachingly real. Gallows Dome is pure, uncut L.A. crime.” —Peter Farris, author of Last Call for the Living and The Devil Himself “There are many superb elements here, but Knight’s voice is what makes Gallows Dome wildly entertaining and memorable. He offers fast, snappy prose with a level of punchy, slangy dialogue that dances between the brilliant and the ridiculous. The gripping and entertaining tale Knight splashes on the page here is definitely worth the ride.” —CrimeFictionCritic.com “If you like your writing with dirt under its nails, then let me introduce you to Nolan Knight...your new favorite writer.” —Tony O’Neill, author of Sick City, Digging the Vein and Down and Out on Murder Mile “If Hubert Selby slipped off the grid and was writing bad checks from Forgotten, California—it would sound like this thrilling book: boozy, hallucinatory, volatile. Knight has a wild, degenerate charm on the line level that brings its own doomsday.” —Joshua Mohr, author of Model Citizen and All This Life “Intoxicating and rattling, Gallows Dome is a raw nerved journey into a subterranean realm where a determined woman out of her depth must prevail or perish all hope.” —Gary Phillips, author of One-Shot Harry “Compulsively readable, Gallows Dome will leave you gasping for breath.” ––Patrick H. Moore, author of 27 Days “Gallows Dome is an atmospheric, contemporary, gritty noir tale replete with damsels in distress, a down and out detective, a hoedown, a showdown, an angel, and the devil incarnate—what more could you ask for? Kudos to Nolan Knight.” —Steven Max Russo, acclaimed author of Thieves and The Dead Don’t Sleep “Nolan Knight's Gallows Dome has it all. Missing children, desperate parents, drug dealers, psycho killers, private investigators, cult members, truck stop cuties, you name it. There’s so much here it's like getting two books for the price of one.” —Tim O'Mara, author of the Raymond Donne series “This noir thriller drops you into a hellish world of drugs, desperation, and deranged cultism. You will be riveted to the fiery end.” —Mark Troy, author of the Ava Rome private detective series “From perfectly pitched conversation to funky dives to cultish sadism…there's true madness here, and a Gothic-level shock of recognition.” —Jay Gertzman, author of Pulp According to David Goodis and Beyond Twisted Sorrow

Book excerpt: A man wakens in an amazonian jungle, somewhere in Africa, most likely a tourist's trail of sorts. He's wearing a clean 1,800 dollar sweatsuit and an oddly out of place pair of ruffed up, rugged sandals. He stands up to recall how he got here, remembering that he had a digenerative gene passed on to him from his father that was most likely to cause alzheimer's. He also remembers the last time he was in a public place and watched, matter of factly, when the latest discovery was announced on the news, alchohol is the leading cause of alzheimers. The man wonders how long he'd been boozing this time, he is obviously worth millions from the clothes he has on. The money from a trust fund, a few million dollars, enough to do whatever the hell he wanted. An adventurer is what he had always wanted to be, he just never figured he'd end up more of a drunk than an adventurer. What's more fun than exploring the world while you're wasted! This time though he'd done it. He leans up against what looks like a tourist exhibit. A tomb. Fenced of and marked with a brass studded silver plaque that reads, "Who but I can reveal the secrets of the unhewn dolmen? Who but I can make known the ages of the moon? Who but I can know the secret resting place off the sun?" He then thinks to himself, "Who but I wakes up in the jungle with a 1,800 sweat suit on and a beat up pair of sandals I probably stole from some homeless guy?" Though he never would steal from anyone, he was a man of true heart. His adventure will start, and may end at this tomb as he traces his path and shaky memory to his destiny. He will come to find the tribe who named him Hubudi, and the sandals... Well you will have to wait and find out why he has those sandals on. A good memory needs a good marker. He will lead the way in bridging the gap of worldy seperation. He finds himself on a journey to bring the planet back to life by erasing racial segregation and social degredation. Finding the power in the human spirit to move actual mountains with but the faith of a mustard seed. It may not be plate tectonics after all, but our differences, fear and seperation. The Earth as we know it will come to be know as a true reflexion of our mentalities as the human race. Hubudi will unlock the secret mystery of human nature and restore power back to ourselves and our planet, which will in turn pull our divided continents back together and soon the planets and universe. All will become one. Everyone will see the beauty of human life and the power and potential of human spirit as we follow Hubudi on his journey into the forgotten realm of knowledge that he finds and re-members piece by piece.
