Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The thought of writing for children was when I started to have grandchildren. I wondered how the little brains can develop their creative world. I decided to write stories, creating scenes that will nurture creativity through fantasy. All the characters are fictitious, the towns and villages are imaginary, but may have characteristics of actual villages and towns. The book has 6 chapters of different short stories designed to allow children to ask questions about some cultures that they may have no idea about but which they can relate to. It’s aimed to stimulate children’s thinking and for them to be able to differentiate from fiction to real life. Scenes created maybe outside some children’s environment, but this allows them to appreciate the different environments that may exist in other parts of the world. The stories are aimed to stimulate children’s imagination and also contribute character building. Each of the story lines has got unique morals relevant to character building. It’s also expresses the way of life of some people. More importantly, it’s the identification of the positive moral of the stories that are relevant for children to emulate. For example the story about how the tortoise won the race. It’s shows that with determination, one can succeed. Like the tortoise, he won the race being tactical and serious.

Book excerpt: A single mother starts fresh in smalltown South Carolina, helping a rugged contractor renovate homes in this clean & wholesome romance series launch. Sunny, carefree days splashing in the ocean—it’s the life Anna George has always wanted for her five-year-old twins. And now that they’ve made it to Safe Haven, South Carolina, she won’t let anyone stand in her way. Not the abusive ex she’s just escaped and not the rugged contractor who caught her setting up house in the shuttered beachfront cabins he’s refurbishing. When he offers Anna and her daughters a place to stay in exchange for her help with renovations, she’s tempted. His gentle way with her girls makes her want to trust him, but she’s been wrong before . . . A family is the last thing contractor and former military man Sean O’Dwyer wants right now. But when he discovers Anna and her girls, he recognizes kindred spirits. They’re survivors who’ve seen the worst of people, just like he has, and he’ll do anything he can to help them. As he and Anna spend their days bringing the cottages back to life and their nights sharing kisses in the warm bayou breezes, Sean must choose between the life he always wanted and the family he can’t live without. Book excerpt: Why was it that, across Scotland over the last two and a half centuries, architectural monuments were raised to national heroes? Were hero buildings commissioned as manifestations of certain social beliefs, or as a built environmental form of social advocacy? And if so, then how and why were social aims and intentions translated into architectural form, and how effective were they? A tradition of building architectural monuments to commemorate national heroes developed as a distinctive feature of the Scottish built environment. As concrete manifestations of powerful social and political currents of thought and opinion, these hero buildings make important statements about identity, the nation and social history. The book examines this architectural culture by studying a prominent selection of buildings, such as the Burns monuments in Alloway, Edinburgh and Kilmarnock, the Edinburgh Scott Monument, the Glenfinnan Monument and the Wallace Monument in Stirling. They give testimony to how a variety of architectural forms and styles can be adapted through time to bear particular social messages of symbolic weight. This tradition, which literally allows us to dwell on important social issues of the past, has been somewhat neglected in serious architectural history and heritage, and indeed one of the main monuments has already been destroyed. By raising awareness of this rich architectural and social heritage, while analysing and interpreting the buildings in their historical context, this book makes an exciting and original scholarly contribution to the current debates on identity and nationality taking place in Scotland and the wider UK.

Book excerpt: From We Need Diverse Books, the organization behind Flying Lessons & Other Stories, comes another middle-grade short-story collection--this one focused on exploring acts of bravery--featuring some of the best own-voices children's authors, including R. J. Palacio (Wonder), Rita Williams-Garcia (One Crazy Summer), Linda Sue Park (A Long Walk to Water), and many more. Not all heroes wear capes. Some heroes teach martial arts. Others talk to ghosts. A few are inventors or soccer players. They're also sisters, neighbors, and friends. Because heroes come in many shapes and sizes. But they all have one thing in common: they make the world a better place. Published in partnership with We Need Diverse Books, this vibrant anthology features thirteen acclaimed authors whose powerful and diverse voices show how small acts of kindness can save the day. So pay attention, because a hero could be right beside you. Or maybe the hero is you. AUTHORS INCLUDE: William Alexander, Joseph Bruchac, Lamar Giles, Mike Jung, Hena Khan, Juana Medina, Ellen Oh, R. J. Palacio, Linda Sue Park and Anna Dobbin, Cynthia Leitich Smith, Ronald L. Smith, Rita Williams-Garcia, and short-story contest winner Suma Subramaniam “As with the two previous anthologies from We Need Diverse Books, this collection admirably succeeds in making available to all readers a wider and more representative range of American voices and protagonists.” —The Washington Post

Book excerpt: This volume traces the growth of the indigenous Hindi film hero from the silent era up to Dilip Kumar. The film hero is depicted as a credible representative of the social, cultural and political milieu of his era. The author contends that the development of Hindi cinema has been largely centered round the frontal figure of the hero. In the course of the narrative, the subject matter presents a compact history of mainstream Hindi cinema by placing personalities, events and trends in specific time frames.

This is the cry resonating throughout the earth. 1.2 billion "children at risk" cannot be ignored. This book is a compelling case for you to be a hero in the life of "children at risk," beginning with scriptural understanding of mercy and justice to the poor. Then, setting the stage historically, the authors unveil the great exploits of those awesome warriors who have gone before us, outlining their struggles to serve the masses of broken humanity. Finally, Be a Hero time warps into the third millennium, introducing the seven deadly sins uniquely facing children: extreme poverty, orphans of the streets, children in chains, sex in the city, AIDS and plagues, the oppression of war, and religious persecution. But it doesn't leaving you hanging in despair. Be a Hero is a revolutionary document that prepares you to change your world.

This books aims to contribute to a better understanding of Chipembere in Malawi and abroad. Writing in exile, he presents his own version of his life, which always links to the wider context of events, and is thus also the story of a nation in change. The autobiography includes chapters on the experience of the civil service and race discrimination; the effects of a missionary upbringing; the struggle for independence; and key public and parliamentary speeches. In a story that has only been allowed to circulate freely in Malawi recently, Chipembere recounts how the search for a politcal Messiah in the figure of Banda, and the final break with Banda unleashed personal and family tragedy as well as a nation's tragedy.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Heroes of the Nations Dear Girls and Boys: You have been working away with the queer, crooked marks printed in books until now you know how to read. How many splendid stories are waiting for you! To be sure they are locked up in books, but whoever can read has the magic key which opens the books. Will you enjoy this book? That depends upon what you like. Some of these stories are about girls and boys. Most of them learned to read and write, though their languages were very different from ours. They enjoyed fine stories as you do. Brave Joan of Arc could not read; but she could pray; and her prayers saved France. Of course you love your mother and father very dearly, and they love you. So you will understand why Ulysses went to war rather than hurt his baby boy. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
