Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nanotechnology is a multidisciplinary field that is revolutionizing the way we detect and treat damage to the human body. Nanomedicine applies nanotechnology to highly specific medical interventions for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases. They are increasingly being used to overcome biological barriers in the body to improve the way we deliver compounds to specific tissues and organs. In particular, nanomedicines have been shown to be beneficial for stabilizing therapeutic compounds, overcoming obstacles to cellular and tissue uptake, and improving biodistribution of compounds to target sites in vivo. Nanomedicines have demonstrated significant therapeutic advantages for a multitude of biomedical applications, however the clinical translation of these nanotechnology platforms has not progressed as quickly as the plethora of positive results would have suggested. Understanding the advances in nanomedicine to date and the challenges that still need to be overcome, will allow future research to improve on existing platforms and to address the current translational and regulatory limitations. This eBook “Advances and Challenges in Nanomedicine” has brought together experts in the fields of nanomedicine, nanotechnology, nanotoxicology, pharmaceutics, manufacturing, and translation to discuss the application of nanotechnology to drug delivery. This information is presented as original research, opinion, perspective, and review articles. The goal of this eBook is to generate collaborative discussion on the current status, general trends, challenges, strategies, and future direction of pharmaceutical nanotechnology, as well as highlight current and emerging nanoparticulate platforms with potential medical applications.
Book Synopsis The Nanotechnology Challenge by : David A. Dana
Download or read book The Nanotechnology Challenge written by David A. Dana and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-11-14 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nanotechnology is the wave of the future, and has already been incorporated into everything from toothpaste to socks to military equipment. The safety of nanotechnology for human health and the environment is a great unknown, however, and no legal system in the world has yet devised a way to reasonably address the uncertain risks of nanotechnology. To do so will require creating new legal institutions. This volume of essays by leading law scholars and social and physical scientists offers a range of views as to how such institutions should be formed. It is essential reading for anyone who may wonder how we can continue to innovate technologically in a way that both delivers the benefits and sustains human health and the environment.
Book Synopsis Nanotechnology and the Challenges of Equity, Equality and Development by : Susan E. Cozzens
Download or read book Nanotechnology and the Challenges of Equity, Equality and Development written by Susan E. Cozzens and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-10-10 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nanotechnology is enabling applications in materials, microelectronics, health, and agriculture, which are projected to create the next big shift in production, comparable to the industrial revolution. Such major shifts always co-evolve with social relationships. This book focuses on how nanotechnologies might affect equity/equality in global society. Nanotechnologies are likely to open gaps by gender, ethnicity, race, and ability status, as well as between developed and developing countries, unless steps are taken now to create a different outcome. Organizations need to change their practices, and cultural ideas must be broadened if currently disadvantaged groups are to have a more equal position in nano-society rather than a more disadvantaged one. Economic structures are likely to shift in the nano-revolution, requiring policymakers and participatory processes to invent new institutions for social welfare, better suited to the new economic order than those of the past.
Book Synopsis Nanotechnology. Challenges and Opportunities by : Friederike Berg
Download or read book Nanotechnology. Challenges and Opportunities written by Friederike Berg and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2019-11-15 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2019 in the subject Physics - Applied physics, grade: 4.0, , language: English, abstract: In this paper, it describes nanotechnology as a technology that will change the world. This technology is briefly explained to get a general understanding of the term and its origins. The second chapter states the different types of nanorobotics, their functionality and where they have been invented. The third chapter states the essential applications of nanotechnology and their research progress. The following chapter describes groups of interests and three well-known nanotechnology start-ups. The fifth chapter contrasts the challenges and opportunities of this technology. The conclusion summarizes the paper and ends with a personal opinion. Artificial intelligence and small devices are part of our daily life. According to Elon Musk, a serial entrepreneur, artificial intelligence continues to advance and humans will be subordinated. Avoiding this scenario, humans need a digital layer of intelligence made by nanotechnology on their brains. The digital layer allows people to link their brains to a computer which lets them imagine living in a virtual world, to send messages to their friends and to transmit thoughts to a wireless cloud. Phones and smartwatches are becoming redundant. Besides the implementation of a digital layer on our brains to make us super-humans, nanotechnology can also help our bodies to be hyper healthy. A nanorobotic (short: nanobots or nanorobots) is a machine that builds and manipulates objects at an atomic level from atomic building blocks. It can be imagined similar to Lego bricks which can be plugged, picked and placed like atoms. Humans consist of countless nanobots that operate within our cells and keep them alive. Each of them has a specific function such as creating a unique structure made of proteins or DNA. Nanobots can also build an assembler which is a machine that can create any kind of structure at a nanoscale that is thermodynamically stable.

Book Synopsis A Matter of Size by : National Research Council
Download or read book A Matter of Size written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2006-11-30 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI) was created in 2000 to focus and coordinate the nanoscience and nanotechnology research and development (R&D) activities being funded by several federal agencies. The purpose of the NNI is to marshal these research activities in order to accelerate responsible development and deployment of nanotechnology for economic benefit and national security. To take stock of the progress of the NNI, Congress, in P. L. 108-153, the 21st Century Nanotechnology Research and Development Act, directed the National Research Council to carry out a review of the program every three years. This report presents the results of the first of those reviews, which addresses the economic impact of nanotechnology developments and provides a benchmark of U.S. R&D efforts relative to those undertaken by foreign competitors. In addition, the report offers an assessment of the current status of responsible development of nanotechnology and comments on the feasibility of molecular self-assembly.
