Download or read book Amen written by Jesmi (Sist̲ar) and published by Penguin Books India. This book was released on 2009 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On 31 August 2008, Sister Jesme left the Congregation of Mother of Carmel. The authorities repeated attempts to have her declared insane, she says, left her no other option. This book, a first of its kind in India, is an outpouring of her experiences as a nun for thirty-three years. Spirited and fun-loving, from a good family, deeply-rooted in Catholicism, Jesme was drawn to religious life at seventeen after a Retreat at junior college. As a nun, seven years later, she felt distressed at the many ills growing inside the convent and being forced to remain silent about them. There was corruption, by way of donations for college seats; sexual relations between some priests and nuns, and between nuns; class distinctions whereby the cheduthies, or poorer and less-educated sisters, did menial jobs; and a wide gap between comforts and facilities enjoyed by the priests and nuns. Jesme was permitted to complete her doctorate in English Literature, to pursue her passion for literature, cinema and teaching college students. She exposed them to classic films, believing that aesthetics enhances spirituality. But these joys were clouded by the troubles she faced. Searing, sincere, and sensitive, Amen is a plea for a reformation of the Church and comes at a time of its growing concern about nuns and priests. It affirms Jesmeâ¬"s unbroken spirit and faith in Jesus and the Church, living like a nun, but outside the Four Walls of the convent.

The texts chosen represent the most important sources for studying the life and vision of Francis. Book Synopsis Unitatis Redintegratio by : Austin Flannery
Download or read book Unitatis Redintegratio written by Austin Flannery and published by Liturgical Press. This book was released on 2014-06-01 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sixteen official documents—constitutions, decrees, and declarations—of the Second Vatican Council are now available from Liturgical Press in the most popular and widely used inclusive-language edition translated by Irish Dominican Austin Flannery (+October 21, 2008). As the worldwide Church continues to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the Council (1962–65), there is a great need in college classrooms and parish faith formation groups—as well as for individuals—to again have access to these documents in contemporary English. As Flannery wrote in his introduction to the 1996 edition, “The translation of the texts of the Vatican documents in the present volume differs from that in the previous publication in two respects. It has been very considerably revised and, in place, corrected. It is also, to a very large extent, in inclusive language. “I say ‘to a very large extent,’ because we have used inclusive language in passages about men and women but not, however, in passages about God, except where the use of the masculine pronoun was easily avoidable.”

Book Synopsis Mysticism and the New Age by : George A. Maloney
Download or read book Mysticism and the New Age written by George A. Maloney and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everyone has heard of the occult-inspired New Age Movement. How many people have heard of the authentic, orthodox Catholic "New Age Movement" that does in reality what the others only claim to do? This book describes a Christian spirituality that restores for us the sense of God's sacred presence in all of creation. This spirituality is based on theBible and on the church's ancient system of Logos mysticism, taught by such figures as St. Maximus the Confessor and Teilhard de Chardin. Father Maloney shows how the members of Christ's Body can, with God's grace, reach mystical states of consciousness and cooperate in the ongoing divine plan of creation.
