Book Synopsis Advances in Invertebrates and Fish Telemetry by : Jean Paul Lagardere

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume provides a selection of the most significant papers presented at the Second Conference on Fish Telemetry in Europe in La Rochelle, France, in April 1997. The conference was attended by 100 scientists from 18 countries. The contributions are grouped under the following headings: Methodology and New Developments, Tagging Procedures, Behavioural and Physiological Ecology, Fish Migration, Stock Management and Conservation. Particular emphasis was put on tag miniaturisation, multiple functions and sampling strategies. Papers concerned the effects of tags on fish for consolidating behavioural or original physiological investigations noticeably more open to the marine environment. Methods were essentially applied to study the relationships between fish and their natural environment. Besides providing up-to-date information on the state of fish telemetry, the book illustrates the increase in spatial and temporal scales and the number of tracked fish which gives a statistical basis for field study in behavioural ecology.

Book excerpt: This volume provides a selection of the most significant papers presented at the Fourth Conference on Fish Telemetry in Europe, in Trondheim, Norway, in 2001. Papers are focused on migratory patterns and habitat utilisation, social behaviour, physiological ecology, fisheries management, effects of human impact on fish populations, aquaculture and methodology, and new technology. This book is aimed at scientists and engineers actively involved in aquatic telemetry projects, aquatic biologists (marine and freshwater), fisheries biologists and managers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An internationally-renowned biologist describes the life history of the Atlantic salmon in light of intensive research over the last 30 years. Provides an authoritative and detailed appraisal of the fisheries that exploit this valuable resource. The salmon's conflict with the environment is examined in the context of changes in land use, water abstraction and acidification. A complete analysis of the author's North Esk investigation is given and the effects of fish farming on wild stocks and the salmon's future are discussed.

Download or read book Trout and Salmon written by Trevor Crisp and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-15 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This important book contains a great wealth of practical information on trout and salmon, species of fish that are of huge scientific and commercial interest. The introductory chapters of Trout and Salmon cover the biology and environmental variables of importance when considering these species. Further chapters encompass current information on the ecology of salmon and trout, with particular emphasis on the definition and quantification, where possible, of their environmental requirements and limitations. Comprehensive coverage of the impacts of human activities on trout and salmon is included, together with important aspects of relevance when considering issues of species conservation and habitat restoration. The book concentrates on the two species of the genus Salmo with many references and comparisons with the genus Oncorhynchus. Conclusions drawn within the book apply to both genera and as such the book will have relevance for both Europe and North America as well as other areas where these genera occur. Trevor Crisp has written a book that will be of great interest and use to fish biologists and fisheries scientists, to aquatic biologists, conservationists, ecologists and environmental scientists. The book will be particularly valuable for those working in government environment agencies and fish and wildlife departments and to all those involved in the management of these important species, their fisheries and habitats.
