Book Synopsis The Future is Fungi by : Michael Lim
Download or read book The Future is Fungi written by Michael Lim and published by Thames & Hudson Australia. This book was released on 2022-02-22 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The kingdom of fungi has survived all five major extinction events. They are the architects of the natural world, integral to all life. They sustain critical ecosystems, recycling nutrients and connecting plants across vast areas, and help to produce many staples of modern life, such as wine, chocolate, bread, detergent and penicillin. Today, in the face of urgent ecological, societal and spiritual crises, fungi are being engineered to grow meat alternatives, create new sources of medicine, produce sustainable biomaterials, remediate the environment and even expand our collective consciousness. The Future is Fungi is a complete introduction to this hidden kingdom. Exploring their past, present and potential future impact in four key areas - food, medicine, psychedelics and mental health, and environmental remediation - this book not only reveals how fungi have formed the foundations of modern life but how they might help shape our future. Rich with informative texts, awe-inspiring 3D digital art and tips on how to immerse yourself in the world of fungi, this is a manifesto for the future, an invitation into a deeper awareness of our relationship with the natural world, each other, and ourselves.

Book Synopsis Regularized Image Reconstruction in Parallel MRI with MATLAB by : Joseph Suresh Paul
Download or read book Regularized Image Reconstruction in Parallel MRI with MATLAB written by Joseph Suresh Paul and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-11-05 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Regularization becomes an integral part of the reconstruction process in accelerated parallel magnetic resonance imaging (pMRI) due to the need for utilizing the most discriminative information in the form of parsimonious models to generate high quality images with reduced noise and artifacts. Apart from providing a detailed overview and implementation details of various pMRI reconstruction methods, Regularized image reconstruction in parallel MRI with MATLAB examples interprets regularized image reconstruction in pMRI as a means to effectively control the balance between two specific types of error signals to either improve the accuracy in estimation of missing samples, or speed up the estimation process. The first type corresponds to the modeling error between acquired and their estimated values. The second type arises due to the perturbation of k-space values in autocalibration methods or sparse approximation in the compressed sensing based reconstruction model. Features: Provides details for optimizing regularization parameters in each type of reconstruction. Presents comparison of regularization approaches for each type of pMRI reconstruction. Includes discussion of case studies using clinically acquired data. MATLAB codes are provided for each reconstruction type. Contains method-wise description of adapting regularization to optimize speed and accuracy. This book serves as a reference material for researchers and students involved in development of pMRI reconstruction methods. Industry practitioners concerned with how to apply regularization in pMRI reconstruction will find this book most useful.

Book Synopsis Intercultural Communication in Interpreting by : Jinhyun Cho
Download or read book Intercultural Communication in Interpreting written by Jinhyun Cho and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-07-01 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Navigating and resolving issues in intercultural communication is an integral part of the interpreter’s role on a daily basis. This book is an essential guide to the interpersonal dimensions of intercultural communication in a variety of key interpreting contexts: business, education, law, and healthcare. Drawing on the unique perspectives of professional interpreters, Cho focuses on two key questions that remain underexamined in the field of intercultural communication: why does intercultural communication often break down, and how do individuals manage intercultural communication issues? Each chapter deals with issues pertinent to small cultural aspects of intercultural communication, including gender, ethnic migrant communities, educational cultures among migrants of Asian backgrounds, and monolingualism/monoculturalism in courtroom and refugee interview contexts. Spanning diverse geographical domains, the book highlights the impact of macro power on interpreting as well as the significance of individual agency and micro power, which can rebalance the given communicative context. Offering a comprehensive, up-to-date, innovative, and critical perspective on intercultural communication in interpreting, this is key reading for student and professional interpreters and those on courses in language and intercultural communication.
