Book Synopsis CAD/CAE Descriptive Geometry by : Daniel L. Ryan
Download or read book CAD/CAE Descriptive Geometry written by Daniel L. Ryan and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1991-12-18 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CAD/CAE Descriptive Geometry provides a sound foundation in the fundamentals of plane geometry (mathematics), orthographic projection (technical drawing), and high-speed communication methods (digital computing). The material presented in this textbook is based on the premise that readers have access to IBM PC or PS/2 compatible workstations running AutoDesk software. The chapters cover the basic geometry topic in detail using the CAD workstation. The book is an excellent industry and institutional reference, as well as a student text.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book seeks to explore the history of descriptive geometry in relation to its circulation in the 19th century, which had been favoured by the transfers of the model of the École Polytechnique to other countries. The book also covers the diffusion of its teaching from higher instruction to technical and secondary teaching. In relation to that, there is analysis of the role of the institution – similar but definitely not identical in the different countries – in the field under consideration. The book contains chapters focused on different countries, areas, and institutions, written by specialists of the history of the field. Insights on descriptive geometry are provided in the context of the mathematical aspect, the aspect of teaching in particular to non-mathematicians, and the institutions themselves.

Book Synopsis The Grammar of the Machine by : Edward Stevens
Download or read book The Grammar of the Machine written by Edward Stevens and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 1995-01-01 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, the American economy moved toward a manufacturing base and mass production, creating a demand for a literacy that encompassed not only the traditional alphabetic form of expression but also scientific and mathematical notation and spatial and graphic representation. How did the world of learning respond to this demand? What kinds of educational institutions, teachers, textbooks, and patterns of instruction emerged? Edward Stevens, Jr., describes the important technological changes that took place in antebellum America and the challenges they posed for education. Investigating the instruction, curricula, and textbooks used in the common schools, in the mechanics' institutes, and, specifically, at the Troy Female Seminary and the Rensselaer School in upstate New York, he demonstrates how advocates of technical literacy attempted to teach new skills. Stevens shows that the tensions between the liberal and the vocational, between a culture of print and a nonverbal culture of experience, persisted in technical education through the first half of the nineteenth century but were resolved temporarily by a common moral vision.

Book Synopsis Contested Symmetries by : Preston Scott Cohen
Download or read book Contested Symmetries written by Preston Scott Cohen and published by Princeton Architectural Press. This book was released on 2001-06 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Architect Preston Scott Cohen combines the use of the most advanced digital modeling technologies with a fascination for 17th century descriptive geometry. He uses familiar forms distorted by oblique projections and similar devices to create complex designs that challenge our preconceptions about the nature of order in architecture. Contested Symmetries and Other Predicaments in Architecture features Cohen's intricate abstract geometries and lucidly describes both the mechanics and the theory behind their application. A wealth of projects, including the widely acclaimed Torus House, are represented through drawings, models, and computer-generated images.
