Book excerpt: We then propose a new approach in the syntheses of sparse controllers by employing the concept of Hp approximations. Considering the trade-off between the controller sparsity and the performance deterioration due to the sparsification process, we propose solving methodologies in order to obtain robust sparse controllers when the system is subject to parametric uncertainties.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Control and Dynamic Systems, Volume 22: Decentralized/Distributed Control and Dynamic Systems, Part 1 deals with advances in techniques for the analysis and synthesis of decentralized or distributed control and dynamic systems. This book begins with a unique presentation of important results and techniques that decentralized control systems often face due to the fact that the individual systems in a collection or set of decentralized control systems are somewhat incomplete. The controllability, observability, implications, and powerful techniques for stabilization and control of decentralized systems are also discussed. The next chapters describe the covariance equivalent realizations with application to model reductions of large-scale systems and decentralized estimation and control of one-way connected subsystems. This publication concludes with a presentation of the multivariable feedback and decentralized control that reviews fundamental results extending multivariable theory from conventional control systems to the highly challenging problems of decentralized control. This volume is beneficial to students and researchers conducting work on decentralized or distributed control and dynamic systems.

Book excerpt: Thoroughly classroom-tested and proven to be a valuable self-study companion, Linear Control System Analysis and Design: Fifth Edition uses in-depth explanations, diagrams, calculations, and tables, to provide an intensive overview of modern control theory and conventional control system design. The authors keep the mathematics to a minimum while stressing real-world engineering challenges. Completely updated and packed with student-friendly features, the Fifth Edition presents a wide range of examples using MATLAB® and TOTAL-PC, as well as an appendix listing MATLAB functions for optimizing control system analysis and design. Eighty percent of the problems presented in the previous edition have been revised to further reinforce concepts necessary for current electrical, aeronautical, astronautical, and mechanical applications.

Book excerpt: Control and Dynamic Systems, Volume 18: Advances in Theory and Applications provides the techniques for the analysis and synthesis of large-scale complex systems. This book begins with a comprehensive treatment of component cost analysis of large-scale systems, including cost balancing methods for system design, failure mode analysis, model reduction techniques, and design of lower-order controllers that meet on-line controller software limitations. The problem of reduced-order modeling and filtering, linear multivariable systems synthesis techniques, and digital control of dynamical systems are deliberated in the next chapters. This publication concludes with the ship propulsion dynamics simulation and analysis and synthesis of complex distributed parameter systems. This volume is beneficial to students and researchers conducting work on advances in large-scale complex systems.

This book was released on 2013-11-29 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optimal Design of Distributed Control and Embedded Systems focuses on the design of special control and scheduling algorithms based on system structural properties as well as on analysis of the influence of induced time-delay on systems performances. It treats the optimal design of distributed and embedded control systems (DCESs) with respect to communication and calculation-resource constraints, quantization aspects, and potential time-delays induced by the associated communication and calculation model. Particular emphasis is put on optimal control signal scheduling based on the system state. In order to render this complex optimization problem feasible in real time, a time decomposition is based on periodicity induced by the static scheduling is operated. The authors present a co-design approach which subsumes the synthesis of the optimal control laws and the generation of an optimal schedule of control signals on real-time networks as well as the execution of control tasks on a single processor. The authors also operate a control structure modification or a control switching based on a thorough analysis of the influence of the induced time-delay system influence on stability and system performance in order to optimize DCES performance in case of calculation and communication resource limitations. Although the richness and variety of classes of DCES preclude a completely comprehensive treatment or a single “best” method of approaching them all, this co-design approach has the best chance of rendering this problem feasible and finding the optimal or some sub-optimal solution. The text is rounded out with references to such applications as car suspension and unmanned vehicles. Optimal Design of Distributed Control and Embedded Systems will be of most interest to academic researchers working on the mathematical theory of DCES but the wide range of environments in which they are used also promotes the relevance of the text for control practitioners working in the avionics, automotive, energy-production, space exploration and many other industries.
