Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are You Ready to Read the Best Pandemic Science-Fiction Novel of the World? Could there be an important secret that has been hidden for thousands of years in the symbol of the snake climbing the tree, which is the symbol of medicine? Can the source of diseases be the Devil? Could it be a coincidence that the snake figure in the scriptures is also a symbol of Devil? Moreover, could this most evil creature of all ages have been hiding underground, somewhere in the world, using the name of a mythological being the snake-headed 'Medusa'? Moreover, could Hell have actually been there as well? Yes, in fact, everything on Earth began with the first beginning of humanity; with the story of Devil setting him up, that is, being expelled from Heaven. However, everything in our story began at the end of the 1980s, when a group of German scientists digging underground in the depths of the Bavarian forests in southern Germany heard some strange sounds and screams coming from underground. As a result of many years of excavation and drilling, they discovered a tunnel extending thousands of kilometers underground. This tunnel was actually a gate to Hell and Devil. Upon hearing and recording these horrible sounds, they were frightened, and after a while the project was left unfinished. In the early 2020s, a health organization with the world's most secret and evil power, under the leadership of a horrible evil man, Dr. Cornelli, nicknamed 'Frankenstein', in order to reach the source of this sound and communicate with it, he continued this project, which was left unfinished after 40 years, and started a big project called 'Medusa'. This horrible person, who also introduces himself as the 'White Angel of Death', has been secretly managing this project for years in order to develop new species and viruses that will destroy life and humanity on earth through genetic studies by conducting animal experiments among various species in a laboratory. On top of that, his only purpose now is to follow the orders of this Devil that lives underground. By the 2040s, there is no scientific explanation for the cause of rapidly spreading virus outbreaks all over the world. Billions of people are in quarantine, and many have died in these epidemics. Moreover, a series of murders and assassinations, especially involving medical doctors and professors, began at that time. Everyone connected with Herbert Johnson, a professor of History and Mythology who is trying to uncover the truth of the virus, begins to be killed by a horrible chain of assassinations. Prof. Herbert Johnson and everyone he wants to help fight this evil are now waiting for death as a victim in the goal of this evil force, along with billions of people fighting in the grip of the virus. In contrast, the American Archaeologist John Smith and his Russian friend, Professor of Archaeology, Prof. Gregory Kravnik is the only one who can stop them, albeit at the cost of their lives, and for this they have to fight with them. Moreover, if they cannot stop them and this unseen evil force, now their own lives are in danger along with billions of others. The only way to stop this impending Apocalypse is to find a lost statue of Medusa, the location of which no one knows, located at the entrance to the tunnel leading to this underground hell. Because a secret gate inside this statue of Medusa is the beginning of a long and difficult path towards Devil, the source of all these evils and diseases. The Medusa Code will drag you to one of the 7 gates of Hell in the underground. Are You Ready Gate to Hell?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the late 1940s Patrick Leigh Fermor, now widely regarded as one of the twentieth century’s greatest travel writers, set out to explore the then relatively little-visited islands of the Caribbean. Rather than a comprehensive political or historical study of the region, The Traveller’s Tree, Leigh Fermor’s first book, gives us his own vivid, idiosyncratic impressions of Guadeloupe, Martinique, Dominica, Barbados, Trinidad, and Haiti, among other islands. Here we watch Leigh Fermor walk the dusty roads of the countryside and the broad avenues of former colonial capitals, equally at home among the peasant and the elite, the laborer and the artist. He listens to steel drum bands, delights in the Congo dancing that closes out Havana’s Carnival, and observes vodou and Rastafarian rites, all with the generous curiosity and easy erudition that readers will recognize from his subsequent classic accounts A Time of Gifts and Between the Woods and the Water.

Book excerpt: Phoebe Katz is back on a new mission to save Olympus and undo the fallout from her first visit. Damian has troubling news—the epic mythology stories in the books are changing. Instead of Perseus slaying Medusa and becoming a hero, the books now say he’s turned to stone. Worse, thanks to Phoebe slaying the Nemean lion and the Lernean hydra to complete the Eye of Zeus, Hercules failed his first two trials—which means he’s not the immortal hero he’s supposed to be. After speaking with the oracle who brought her to New York, Phoebe learns that without great heroes, the entire fabric of Greek mythology is in peril. She must go back to Olympus and right the history she wrecked. To do that, she must embark on a quest to collect the items she will need to help Perseus defeat Medusa, including the curved blade the Argus Slayer, the winged shoes of Hermes, and Hades’s Helmet of Invisibility, and convince Hercules to complete his new trials without giving up—despite the efforts of a powerful force that will stop at nothing to see the demi-god children of Zeus destroyed. Can Phoebe collect the items she needs and save Olympus once again?

Book excerpt: 'As rich, satisfying and revelatory as a long walk in the woods.' Peter Wohlleben, author of The Hidden Life of Trees What connects Robin Hood, the history of ink, fungi, Shakespeare and sorcery? In Oaklore, Jules Acton, an ambassador for The Woodland Trust, explores the incredibly diverse history of the ‘king of the woods’: from a source of food and shelter to its use in literature as a plot device and muse, its role as an essential ingredient in ink, and in mythology from across the British Isles as a sacred plant and precious resource. Acton’s infectious enthusiasm shines through in chapters that open with excerpts from oak-y poems, as well as tips for connecting with nature – like how to recognize bird songs and help moths and butterflies thrive. Meeting fellow oak-lovers along the way, and trees like Sherwood Forest’s Medusa Oak or the gargantuan Marton Oak in Cheshire, Acton plots an unforgettable journey through the tangled roots of the oak’s story, and that of Britain itself.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Phylogenies in Ecology is the first book to critically review the application of phylogenetic methods in ecology, and it serves as a primer to working ecologists and students of ecology wishing to understand these methods. This book demonstrates how phylogenetic information is transforming ecology by offering fresh ways to estimate the similarities and differences among species, and by providing deeper, evolutionary-based insights on species distributions, coexistence, and niche partitioning. Marc Cadotte and Jonathan Davies examine this emerging area's explosive growth, allowing for this new body of hypotheses testing. Cadotte and Davies systematically look at all the main areas of current ecophylogenetic methodology, testing, and inference. Each chapter of their book covers a unique topic, emphasizes key assumptions, and introduces the appropriate statistical methods and null models required for testing phylogenetically informed hypotheses. The applications presented throughout are supported and connected by examples relying on real-world data that have been analyzed using the open-source programming language, R. Showing how phylogenetic methods are shedding light on fundamental ecological questions related to species coexistence, conservation, and global change, Phylogenies in Ecology will interest anyone who thinks that evolution might be important in their data.

THE ANCESTOR'S TALE is a dazzling, four-billion-year pilgrimage to the origins of life: Richard Dawkins and Yan Wong take us on an exhilarating reverse journey through evolution, from present-day humans back to the microbial beginnings of life. It is a journey happily interrupted by meetings of fellow modern animals (as well as plants, fungi and bacteria) similarly tracing their evolutionary path back through history. As each evolutionary pilgrim tells their tale, Dawkins and Wong shed light on topics such as speciation, sexual selection and extinction. Written with unparalleled wit, clarity and intelligence; taking in new scientific discoveries of the past decade; and including new 'tales', illustrations and fractal diagrams, THE ANCESTOR'S TALE shows us how remarkable we are, how astonishing our history, and how intimate our relationship with the rest of the living world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author takes us on a journey of discovery as the protagonist discovers that she possesses the astonishing gift of sight but also an abundance of compassion and love for humanity that is unmatched by any God. The author in her adoring portrayal so eloquently and intimately engages with and unravels the infamous Grecian Myth of the great and powerful Medusa. This myth denied Medusa her voice forever condemning her fragmented monstrous form whereas this wonderful story celebrates and gives Medusa back what she had lost for centuries. However, evil has many faces as Medusa unveils the horrid guises of "the righteous" and guides us through the difference between truth and verisimilitude. Condemned to live a half-life in the shadows, her deadly stare forbids any hope of any human contact, she is made to be the repulsive monster that everyone fears they too could become. But her story does not end there. She rewrites history as this so called "monster" holds a mirror up defiantly to the gods and to us.
