Book excerpt: Throughout the rich tapestry of history - woven of people and events, battles and treaties, scientific discovery and artistic expression – certain names stand out far above their contemporaries. These are men whose lives were lived on a grand scale and who remain inspiring to this very day – beacons still after the passing of centuries to show both the greatness and the folly of mankind. They were men raised up for a specific purpose and our history was forever changed for their passing. Bernard of Chartres used to say that we are like dwarfs on the shoulders of giants, so that we can see more than they, and things at a greater distance, not by virtue of any sharpness of sight on our part, or any physical distinction, but because we are carried high and raised up by their giant size.” Living with Kings travels the span of history to touch on the lives of such giants and to show the ramifications of their choices and actions on their earthly kingdoms. It paints each king’s life as a momentary glimpse of a facet of the King of Kings – Jesus, and shows how He is the one who ultimately weaves the rich tapestry of human history as we know it. When we know the King, we better understand who we are, as children of the King.

Book excerpt: There is a great gulf between the laws given by God to Moses and those in force in society today. So, how does a believer live in the twenty-first century? What rules do they apply? Christians may claim that many of God's laws were fulfilled with the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. But if a believer truly wants to know who God is, what makes him tick, and how we are supposed to live, then what better way than to study God's rules. At their heart, God's laws were about two things: how to have a healthy relationship with him and how to build up a healthy thriving community. As a consequence, any search for keys to a godly life, would be deficient if it did not include an examination of the rules that God gave Moses (together with the insights of Solomon).

Book excerpt: The author inspired by faith and a love for knowledge and prompted by love, has decided to publish this book to open a wide window of ideas on a multitude of issues. The world has changed and is constantly changing in many ways. But when you look at humanity today, one has to pause and reflect what is really going on in the world. In all aspects of life, you are seeing unprecedented occurrences, whether they are natural and man-made. This book takes a look at those issues in a very objective prism and perspective, analyzing, pointing, correcting issues that have never been touched before, such as religion, science, the use of technology, evolution, architecture, the law and its morality and the judicial system in general, the Bible, God and more. Whether you are a student or a professional in any field or any branch of study, this book will make you ponder.

Book excerpt: The rhymed chronicles by Pierre de Langtoft and Robert Mannyng, written between c.1305 and 1338, form a unique pair in the history of English literature and historiography. Both were written in the North of England, both deal with the history of the kings of England from Brutus to the death of Edward I in July 1307. Yet the differences between them are significant. Langtoft wrote in Anglo-Norman with a specific purpose and a specific audience in mind. Robert Mannyng translated a large part of Langtoft's work into English for a very different kind of audience. Although he stayed close to his source-text in many places, his deviations offer insights into the way the English clergy and the public they addressed viewed themselves, their history and their future. The Matter of Kings' Lives is of interest to social and political historians, especially those interested in the reign of Edward I and Anglo-Scottish relations, and to literary historians who may find that these works have more to offer than has hitherto been realized.
