Book excerpt: According to Thomas Metzinger, no such things as selves exist in the world: nobody ever had or was a self. All that exists are phenomenal selves, as they appear in conscious experience. The phenomenal self, however, is not a thing but an ongoing process; it is the content of a "transparent self-model." In Being No One, Metzinger, a German philosopher, draws strongly on neuroscientific research to present a representationalist and functional analysis of what a consciously experienced first-person perspective actually is. Building a bridge between the humanities and the empirical sciences of the mind, he develops new conceptual toolkits and metaphors; uses case studies of unusual states of mind such as agnosia, neglect, blindsight, and hallucinations; and offers new sets of multilevel constraints for the concept of consciousness. Metzinger's central question is: How exactly does strong, consciously experienced subjectivity emerge out of objective events in the natural world? His epistemic goal is to determine whether conscious experience, in particular the experience of being someone that results from the emergence of a phenomenal self, can be analyzed on subpersonal levels of description. He also asks if and how our Cartesian intuitions that subjective experiences as such can never be reductively explained are themselves ultimately rooted in the deeper representational structure of our conscious minds.

Book excerpt: The first book in channeler Paul Selig’s widely anticipated Mastery Trilogy leads you into an unprecedented journey of self-development, at once building your personal excellence and your ability to improve life for others. The channeled literature of Paul Selig -- who receives clairaudient dictation from unseen intellects called the Guides -- has quickly become the most important and celebrated expression of channeling since A Course In Miracles rose to prominence in the 1970s. Selig’s three previous books -- I Am the Word, The Book of Love and Creation, and The Book of Knowing and Worth -- have won a growing following around the world for their depth, intimacy, and psychological insight. Now, Selig embarks upon an extraordinary new trilogy on the “Teachings of Mastery” with his inaugural volume: The Book of Mastery. The Book of Mastery provides a deeply practical prescription for heightening your abilities, aptitudes, and sense of personal excellence. The Guides’ teachings go much further, however, instructing you how to improve life for others and, ultimately, for global humanity. As the Guides themselves put it: “We will tell you this: No one who reads these books will be left unchanged. They will be like molecular systems that reinvigorate and realign and reclaim the reader to themselves in their worth, in their identity and, beyond that, in their physical realm. Underline physical realm if you like. Because the physical realm that we teach in is about to go back to the stone ages unless you all get it together.”

Book excerpt: • Doña Bernadette Vigil, the working partner of don Miguel Ruiz and a fully initiated Nagual woman, reveals the authentic tradition of Toltec self-mastery. • Includes exercises from the ancient spiritual path that take the practitioner from Jaguar Knight and Eagle Knight through Nagual Master. • Provides a program of 11 Agreements for continuing the spiritual journey. The Toltec people of ancient Mexico possessed powerful knowledge, passed down secretly through generations of Naguals, that enabled them to achieve a remarkable psychic and spiritual balance. These spiritual warriors learned to discipline their thoughts and emotions, channeling their energy into unconditional love for themselves and others and transforming their world in the process. With the understanding of one who has walked the path, dona Bernadette Vigil--a full Nagual, or shaman, in the Toltec tradition--guides readers through the effective training techniques practiced by Toltec warriors for centuries. By following the practices of the spiritual warrior, readers will experience the amazing sense of peace and contentment that comes from finally breaking free from layers of self-limiting thoughts and fulfilling their true potential as human beings. More than a handbook for personal change, Mastery of Awareness challenges readers to transform the collective dream of the planet.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How to Overcome Your Fears, Stress, and Anxiety without Spending Hours in Therapy or Thousands on Pills #1 Bestseller: Depression Help #1 Bestseller: Pathologies In Psychology And Counseling Do you have trouble believing in yourself? Do you run away when you feel anxious? Are you always beating yourself up? Do you feel like you aren''t reaching your full potential? Like invisible chains are holding you back? Your answers to these questions dictate how you feel about yourself, how happy you are, and what you''ll be able to achieve in life. But most self-help information out there isn''t practical. It merely acts as a placebo until you inevitably feel bad again, or is full of platitudes like "Be present" and "Just be happy." There has to be a better way to solve these problems. The Real Struggle Is In Your Mind Most people have the desire and capacity to get over the mental wastes (like anxiety, procrastination, and fear) that are bothering them, but they let obstacles stop them from ever getting started. "He who says he can, and he who says he can''t, are both usually right." If you can''t control your mind, you can''t win. What you might not realize is that you can make DRASTIC changes in your life and solve the problems you face, like: being too scared to talk to an attractive person, procrastinating on a goal, or being caught in endless cycles of worrying. You take a series of small changes (like phoning a friend or writing for 5 minutes in a journal) and build a ritual that you follow every time you come across a mental waste. All you need to know are the right tools to use for what''s bothering you, and how to apply them. N. Lightstone''s book Mastery Of The Mind teaches you: Mindfulness techniques to calm your mind so you can see and dismantle the thought patterns going on in your head, and learn how to let them go and change them. How to identify the bad habits and mental traps you might be doing without even knowing that are keeping you from crushing life. Tools that you can implement to attack and destroy 19 of these mental wastes, like fear, procrastination, negative thinking, jealousy, and more. In this book you will learn: The one method to get over ANY fear, and why "Just do it" is useless (you''d pay thousands just to learn this method alone). The one law that shows that what you think leads to how you feel, and how you can change your thoughts to improve your mood, self-esteem, and confidence. 2 essential tools to fast-track your self-improvement and supercharge your results. How to get out of those useless thought patterns or spirals - the reason you get into them, and the one simple method to step out of them. The REAL reason you procrastinate so much, and the 3 ways you can curb and control it. How to get out of any negative thinking by expanding your scope into the future and using a simple 9 step question-and-answer process. Why you compare yourself to others, and what you can do instead of being endlessly jealous. It''s time to stop overthinking getting over bad habits and mental wastes. You can improve your health, mood, self-esteem, and confidence by arming yourself with the right tools, and stop yourself from reverting to old patterns. Mastery Of The Mind is a simple approach that''s easy to implement no matter what mental waste you''re struggling with. Book excerpt: Want to be a lifelong learner? Think small. Forget spending 10,000 hours in the pursuit of perfecting just one thing. The true path to success and achievement lies in the pursuit of perfecting lots and lots of small things--for a big payoff. Combining positive psychology, neuroscience, self-help and more, this delightfully illuminating book encourages us to circumvent all the reasons we "can't" learn and grow (we're too busy, it's too complicated, we're not experts, we didn't start when we were young) -- by tackling small, satisfying skills. Wish you were a seasoned chef? Learn to make a perfect omelette. Dream of being a racecar driver? Perfect a handbrake turn. Wish you could draw? Make Zen circles your first challenge. These small, doable tasks offer a big payoff -- and motivate us to keep learning and growing, with payoffs that include a boost in optimism, confidence, memory, cognitive skills, and more. Filled with surprising insights and even a compendium of micromastery skills to try yourself, this engaging and inspiring guide reminds us of the simple joy of learning -- and opens the door to limitless, lifelong achievement, one small step at a time. Micromasteries presented in the book (with illustrations) include: Learn How to Climb a Rope, Surf Standing Up, Talk for Fifteen Minutes about Any Subject, Bake Artisan Bread, Juggle Four Balls, Learn to Read Japanese in Three Hours, and more.
