Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a college student, he was blessed to become a student intern in the Information Technology (IT) department where he continued to increase his computer skills as a part-time computer lab assistant and a computer troubleshooter. These roles pushed his skilled to a brand-new level. “After the internship was over, I followed my instructor everywhere he went so I could learn everything I could. I even stayed after hours to glean from his knowledge.” His instructor told him that he had never met anyone like him before. Someone who was hungry for knowledge. After graduating with a degree in computer science, he was offered a part-time job in the IT department. That job later became full-time. As a contributing co-author to Raising Frankie, he visited his parents twice a week to proofread and suggest any changes he felt were necessary. They wanted to make sure he was comfortable with every line before it went to publication. Since he has embraced the book, the three of us hope readers will share its content to assist anyone they know who is or have dealt with ADHD. Brenda is a retired educator who lives with her husband in North Carolina. During her academic career, she served in several capacities in the educational arena. These positions included teaching academically gifted to disadvantaged and handicapped students in high school, high school assistant principal, and supervisor/director of Career Technical Education Programs. She has also taught on the community college level. In her community, she serves on several church auxiliaries to include serving as a deaconess, member of the senior usher board, and as a Sunday school teacher. Because of her experiences working with attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD)—via students and their teachers—she wanted to share her knowledge and experiences with others through Raising Frankie. She hopes that loving and living this work will positively impact the lives of others as it has the Moody family. Frankie L. Moody Sr. (Moody), coauthor, is a United States Army Veteran and a retired lieutenant with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. Presently, he is actively serving as a church deacon, president of the male ushers, Security Team member, Cub Scout Den Leader, and as a literacy tutor (for adults) with Triangle South Literacy Works. He also is employed part-time to transport people to and from medical appointments. In his years of working with people, Moody often imparted words of wisdom and encouragement whenever the opportunity presented itself. Brenda and Moody worked passionately together to first of all understand the characteristics of ADHD. Secondly, to embrace Frankie’s diagnosis so they could help him to deal with whatever he may have encountered academically as well as socially during his formative years. Toward that end, Moody spent his days off each week serving as a teacher assistant’s when Frankie was in elementary school. He also chaperoned every field trip and assisted with all of his sport activities. During high school, we worked together as a team to support Frankie as needed—to include how to handle unwarranted bullying. During high school and college, we realized that Frankie needed space to make his own decisions. With that said, we were always available and ready to activate whatever actions as were necessary to help Frankie to be successful without encroaching on his “I can do it on my own” abilities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A USA TODAY BESTSELLER In this thrilling sequel to the New York Times bestselling novella by Stephen King and award-winning author Richard Chizmar, an adult Gwendy is summoned back to Castle Rock after the mysterious reappearance of the button box. Something evil has swept into the small Maine town of Castle Rock on the heels of the latest winter storm. Sheriff Norris Ridgewick and his team are desperately searching for two missing girls, but time is running out. In Washington, DC, thirty-seven-year-old Gwendy Peterson couldn’t be more different from the self-conscious teenaged girl who once spent a summer running up Castle Rock’s Suicide Stairs. That same summer, she had been entrusted—or some might say cursed—with the extraordinary button box by Richard Farris, the mysterious stranger in the black suit. The seductive and powerful box offered Gwendy small gifts in exchange for its care and feeding until Farris eventually returned, promising the young girl she’d never see the box again. One day, though, the button box suddenly reappears but this time, without Richard Farris to explain why, or what she’s supposed to do with it. Between this and the troubling disappearances back in Castle Rock, Gwendy decides to return home. She just might be able to help rescue the missing girls and stop a dangerous madman before he does something ghastly. With breathtaking and lyrical prose, Gwendy’s Magic Feather explores whether our lives are controlled by fate or the choices we make and what price we sometimes have to pay. Prepare to return again to Stephen King’s Castle Rock, the sleepy little town built on a bedrock of deep, dark secrets, just as it’s about to awaken from its quiet slumber once more.

Book excerpt: What’s the couple next door really hiding? Vintage fashionista and amateur sleuth Charley Carpenter finds out in this engrossing cozy mystery from the USA Today bestselling author of The Book Club Murders. In a small town like Oakwood, Ohio, everyone knows everyone else’s business—except for Charley Carpenter’s standoffish new neighbors, who tend to keep to themselves. But behind closed doors, Paxton Sharpe’s habit of screaming bloody murder at all hours of the day keeps Charley awake all night. Coupled with the stress of the increasingly delayed expansion of her shop, Old Hat Vintage Fashions, the insomnia is driving Charley crazy. Her only distraction? The local paper’s irreverent new advice column, “Ask Jackie.” Jackie’s biting commentary usually leaves Charley and her employees rolling on the floor, but her latest column is no laughing matter. An oddly phrased query hinting at a child in peril immediately puts Charley on high alert. After arriving home to a bloodcurdling scream next door, she follows the noise into the basement and makes a grisly discovery: the body of Judith Sharpe’s adult daughter. With Detective Marcus Trenault off in Chicago, Charley decides to take matters into her own hands. Convinced that the murder is connected to the desperate plea for help in “Ask Jackie,” she embarks on a twisted investigation that has her keeping up with the Sharpes—before a killer strikes again. Leslie Nagel’s delightful Oakwood Mystery novels can be enjoyed together or separately: THE BOOK CLUB MURDERS | THE ANTIQUE HOUSE MURDERS | THE ADVICE COLUMN MURDERS
