Book Synopsis Risk Analytics: From Concept To Deployment by : Edward Hon Khay Ng
Download or read book Risk Analytics: From Concept To Deployment written by Edward Hon Khay Ng and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2021-10-04 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is written to empower risk professionals to turn analytics and models into deployable solutions with minimal IT intervention. Corporations, especially financial institutions, must show evidence of having quantified credit, market and operational risks. They have databases but automating the process to translate data into risk parameters remains a desire.Modelling is done using software with output codes not readily processed by databases. With increasing acceptance of open-source languages, database vendors have seen the value of integrating modelling capabilities into their products. Nevertheless, deploying solutions to automate processes remains a challenge. While not comprehensive in dealing with all facets of risks, the author aims to develop risk professionals who will be able to do just that.

Book Synopsis Dual-channel Supply Chain Decisions With Risk-averse Behavior by : Bo Li
Download or read book Dual-channel Supply Chain Decisions With Risk-averse Behavior written by Bo Li and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2021-08-25 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the era of e-commerce and digitalization, new commercial patterns and opportunities are emerging. For example, in addition to traditional reselling marketing channels, manufacturers can easily open direct channels using a variety of digital marketing strategies. These new marketing channels will cause conflict and competition between manufacturers and resellers. This raises the important question of how to make optimal decisions for multiple players in dual-channel supply chain contexts. Within changing and uncertain operation environments, business enterprises must face tougher challenges than before to survive in competitive markets. This book aims to address representative decision-making problems in dual-channel supply chains with risk-averse channel members. The most recently developed risk assessment technique, Conditional Value-at-Risk (CVaR), will be adopted as the predominant criterion to measure the risk-averse attitude. Based on game theory, important issues such as channel selection, pricing, order quantity, manufacturer encroachment, greening strategy, consumer return policies, financing strategies, channel coordination, contract design, information asymmetry, and capacity constraint will be modeled and analyzed. This book will help readers better understand operations management in dual-channel supply chain contexts with risk-averse behaviors, and will also provide effective techniques and tools for researchers and offer managerial insights for practitioners.
Book Synopsis Report of the Laidlaw Inquiry by : Laidlaw Inquiry
Download or read book Report of the Laidlaw Inquiry written by Laidlaw Inquiry and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Laidlaw Inquiry investigated the Department for Transport (DfT) handling of the competition to run passenger trains on the West Coast main line, which was cancelled following the discovery of significant technical flaws in the way the InterCity West Coast franchise process was conducted. It finds that, in seeking to run a complex and novel franchising competition process, an accumulation of significant errors resulted in a flawed subordinated loan facility (SLF) process. (This is the process where the DfT addresses the risk posed by the thinly capitalised nature of the bidders, requiring commitments from the owning groups for an SLF.) The responsibility for this flawed process lies with the Dft rather than with any of its external advisers. Chapters include: scope and work undertaken; the course of events in relation to the SLF sizing process; findings concerning the GDP resilience model; external advisers; contributory factors; lessons to be learned and recommendations. The Inquiry produces a number of specific recommendations on: inadequate planning and preparation; deficiencies in organisational structure and resourcing; lack of efficacy in governance framework. Improvements in quality assurance procedures are essential. Rapid implementation of the recommendations should help to restore confidence in the DfT's ability to conduct effective railway franchising and procurement.

This book was released on 2021-01-12 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents six new papers on environmental and energy economics and related policy issues. Robert Pindyck provides a systematic overview of what is known, and remains unknown, about climate change, along with the implications of uncertainty for climate policy. Shaikh Eskander, Sam Fankhauser, and Joana Setzer offer insights from a comprehensive data set on climate change legislation and litigation across all countries of the world over the past thirty years. Adele Morris, Noah Kaufman, and Siddhi Doshi shine a light on how expected trends in the coal industry will create significant challenges for the local public finance of coal-reliant communities. Joseph Aldy and his collaborators analyze the treatment of co-benefits in benefit-cost analyses of federal clean air regulations. Tatyana Deryugina and her co-authors report on the geographic and socioeconomic heterogeneity in the benefits of reducing particulate matter air pollution. Finally, Oliver Browne, Ludovica Gazze, and Michael Greenstone use detailed data on residential water consumption to evaluate the relative impacts of conservation policies based on prices, restrictions, and public persuasion.
