Book excerpt: Home to a community of hardworking farmers and mill workers, the village of Delta stood along the banks of the Mohawk River until it was evacuated by the state to raise the water in the Erie Canal. Before the flooding of the river, Delta was a small country village with the same postmaster for over 30 years and families farming the same land for generations. In order to raise the water, the state approved the construction of five reservoirs across New York. The town was evacuated soon after, and the land that generations of residents toiled over now sits at the bottom of Lake Delta.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Delta Lake is interwoven in the fabric of the lives of those who live in the towns of Western and Lee, which are situated on its shore. Western was established in 1797 and Lee in 1812. People like Gen. William Floyd, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, helped settle Western, where he was eventually buried. The first town board meeting for the combined communities was held in the home of the Sheldon brothers, early settlers of the Lee area, and descendants of other early settlers still inhabit the area today. The small village of Delta was flooded to make way for Delta Lake, which would supply water to the states canal system and give Lee and Western a body of water that now hosts one of the best state parks in the Northeast. Around Delta Lake: Lee and Western showcases memories of the Bowman and Westernville Hotels, mud-truck racing, and annual field days in both towns.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1801, the first settlers to the Pulaski and Richland area arrived on the eastern shores of Lake Ontario. These communities were shaped by notable personalities, including early residents Nathan Tuttle, Benjamin Winch, and the Mathewson family; tavern owner Pliny Jones; store owner Capt. John Meacham; businessman Charles Tollner; banker Robert Ingersoll; and philanthropist John Ben Snow. They built businesses and industries, shops and homes, and schools and churches that impacted and defined the town. Relying on the areas natural resources, the Salmon River was harnessed to power mills and later lured thousands of fishermen to its waters. The Selkirk Lighthouse became a prominent landmark at the mouth of that river.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "EDEN IN SUMER ON THE NIGER" provides archeological, linguistic, genetic, and inscribed evidence of the West African origin of mankind, language, religion and civilization. It provides multidisciplinary evidence of the actual geographical location in West Africa of the Garden of Eden, Atlantis and the original homeland of the Sumerian people before their migration to the "Middle East". By translating hitherto unknown pre-cuneiform inscriptions of the Sumerians, Catherine Acholonu and Sidney Davis have uncovered thousands of years of Africa's lost pre-history and evidences of the West African origins of the earliest Pharaohs and Kings of Egypt and Sumer such as Menes and Sargon the Great. This book provides answers to all lingering questions about the African Cavemen (Igbos/Esh/Adamas/Adites) original guardians of the human races, Who gave their genes for the creation of Homo Sapiens (Adam) and were the teachers in the First Age of the world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Cham people are thought to be descendants of the kingdoms of Champa located in central Vietnam between the 2nd and 19th centuries. Champa was one of the oldest Hinduinized kingdoms in Southeast Asia, and became prosperous through maritime trades and its high quality eaglewood from the central highlands made it famous. However, Champa disappeared from the political map of Southeast Asia after its defeats against the Vietnamese southward expansion. The Cham are now one of the 54 state-recognized national ethnic groups, but Champa’s ancient brick structures and temples scattered along central Vietnam attest to its previous glory. Champa adapted a number of foreign religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism and Islam in the course of its history, which made its culture and tradition rich and unique. This book is about a journey of understanding what it means to be Cham in the Social Republic of Vietnam. It is based on field studies in various Cham villages in three different localities: namely, the south central coast area, Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta region. It is grounded in information gathered through prolonged interactions with Cham individuals over recent decades. The book stresses the complexity of Cham communities and the diversity and dynamics of the Cham’s understanding of who they are. It provides a comprehensive picture of Cham communities and the situation of ethnic minority people of Vietnam in general.

Book excerpt: Costumes of Egypt: The Lost Legacies sums up decades of Shahira Mehrez's research: it is a four-volume work recording and tracing the origin of hitherto undocumented ways of dressing and jewelry of Egyptian women, most of which have today become obsolete. The costumes surveyed in this first volume establish the fact that irrespective of distant geographic locations, beyond religious and ethnic diversity, and throughout thousands of years of history and successive civilizations, Nubians, Nile Valley peasants, Bedouins and oasis dwellers, both Christian and Muslim, were heirs to the same legacy. Old and new emblems were melted into one tradition, defining a multifaceted but harmonious Egyptian identity. This tradition provides undeniable and tangible proof of the unity of the country and bears witness to the fact that throughout history these various communities were the different parts of a multicultural and pluralistic nation.
