I used my personal experiences to encourage families and children to have a dialogue about sensitive situations. It is time to let go of the stigma of child abuse. Break the silence code and speak out. The role of the predator is a shocking truth behind family secrets. It is a story about a young girl who is now a woman that models resilience with grace. To pass her grace forward, the author wants to help victims and families understand child molestation. She also wants us to know how to recognize the signs of predatory behaviors. Let us take our families, villages, and communities back to protect our children.

Book excerpt: "Beatrice offers a lesson we could all benefit from: learn from your mistakes, let go, laugh, and enjoy the ride." --JENNIFER FOSBERRY, New York Times bestselling author of My Name Is Not Isabella Being perfect is overrated. Beatrice Bottomwell has NEVER (not once ) made a mistake. She never forgets her math homework, she never wears mismatched socks, and she ALWAYS wins the yearly talent show at school. In fact, the entire town calls her The Girl Who Never Makes Mistakes One day, the inevitable happens: Beatrice makes a huge mistake in front of everyone But in the end, readers (and perfectionists) will realize that life is more fun when you enjoy everything--even the mistakes. Additional praise for The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes: "This funny and heartfelt book conveys a powerful message about how putting too much pressure on yourself to be perfect can suck the joy out of everything. Beatrice's discovery that you can laugh off even a very public mistake shows the importance of resiliency and helps perfectionist kids keep things in perspective. Most importantly, Beatrice reminds the reader that it's more important to enjoy the things that you do than worry about doing them perfectly." --A Mighty Girl "The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes is a must-read for any young (or old ) perfectionist. Beatrice Bottomwell is perfectly imperfect " --Stephanie Oppenheim, Oppenheim Toy Portfolio "It's fun and instructive without feeling overly didactic and the illustrations are darling." --Parenting "This book will help little perfectionists see that making mistakes is okay, and it can be a lot of fun too " --Kids Book Blog

Book excerpt: The Sexual Lives of Black Women, In Their Own Words In a culture driven by sexual and racial imagery, very few honest conversations about race, gender, and sexuality actually take place. In their absence, commonly held perceptions of black women as teenage mothers, welfare recipients, mammies, or exotic sexual playthings remain unchanged. For fear that telling their stories will fulfill society's implicit expectations about their sexuality, most black women have retreated into silence. Tricia Rose seeks to break this silence and jump-start a dialogue by presenting, for the first time, the sexual testimonies of black women. Spanning a broad range of ages, levels of education, and socioeconomic backgrounds, twenty women, in their own words, talk with startling honesty about sex, love, family, relationships, and intimacy. Their stories dispel prevailing myths and provide revealing insights into how black women navigate the complex terrain of sexuality. Nuanced, rich, and powerful, Longing to Tell will be required reading for anyone interested in issues of race and gender.

Book excerpt: Dorothy Jensen tells the story of her humble beginnings as Dorothy Zimmerman in Wichita Falls, Texas, where she grew up with her mother Pearl, her sister Lavona, and her brother Leo. After high school, she worked at Perkins-Timberlake Department store in the credit department. One year, she and a co-worker took a trip together to Pike's Peak. That is when Dorothy realized how much she loved travel. In 1946, when another friend asked her to move out to San Diego, she packed her bags. That is where she met Ib Jensen. They married and she became the mother of three sons who filled her days while they traveled during Ib's military career, living in Guantanamo Bay and Okinawa, and several places in the United States. Dorothy and Ib continued to travel for pleasure to Denmark, Germany, Spain, and places far from those humble beginnings in Wichita Falls. Dorothy wrote this book at the request of her son Robert so he could share it with his children. She began the project by writing fifty-three pages and then incorporated that with several travel journals she kept over the years. Dorothy also has hundreds of slides to go along with these memories.

Book excerpt: And the vessel that He made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make (Jeremiah 18:4). Women in Pain is a sequel to my first book, The Stages of Womanhood: Partnering with God to Birth His Will in Your Life. In birthing the will of God, pain is inevitable as it is in giving birth naturally. There is bound to be an oasis in the midst of every desert. This book helps the reader to find ones oasis in the midst of that painful event. The reader is helped to find that innate strength in order to push through and overcome the pain and come into the original will of God for ones life. In this book, Women in Pain, Cassandra has unraveled the mystery surrounding physical and emotional pain when its presented to God and has highlighted how to hold on until change comes. Scriptures have been shared that will encourage women to look beyond the pain (Psalm 121:12) and look up to God, who is able to bring back to life the things that are dead in their lives. Cassandra has reminded us that storms do not rage forever. It stops at some point, and the sun shines again. I deem this book a healing manual indeed! Such an incredible insight not only for women; it is a must-read for everyone (Reverend Victoria Beecham).

Book excerpt: While writing this story, I will be as truthful and honest as possible in describing my thoughts and actions immediately prior to being admitted to the hospital. It was at this time that I completely lost all sense of reality and started to live in the world of my thoughts, where I create my own reality. I will include notes from hospitals, so-called epicrisis (a critical or analytical summing up especially of a medical case history), and comments from friends and relatives. It all began in January 2006, ten years ago. At that point, I had successfully finished my education at Riga City Pavnieku Gymnasium and was studying political science at the University of Latvia. After the first year in university, I had the opportunity to go to Denmark and study European democracy and politics at Folkehojskole. As the programme was relevant to my studies at university, my tutors agreed, and I would be able to continue in my group when I returned. I thought I was going to continue with my coursework from Latvia while in Denmark, but I realised that they were two different, unrelated courses. Returning to Latvia, I soon realised I was not ready to take the ongoing examinations; and although my group mate had regularly sent me course notes, I did not bother to study or pay attention. I remember very clearly that day when I had to go to university, but I chose the easiest option and stayed at home. I thought I could take a year out from university, relax, enjoy my life, and teach children dancing. Unfortunately, this did not happen.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Well, I shall call her Dorothy. I'm neither Greek nor Latin nor a college professor. There's no law against my being sensible, fursiseeÑwhich really meant "far as I see." "And the idea of appointing Winthrop Adams her guardian! I did think second-cousin Charles had more sense. Winthrop thinks of nothing but books and going back to the Creation of the World, just as if the Lord couldn't have made things straight in the beginning without his help. I dare say he will find out what language they talked before the dispersion of Babel. People are growing so wise nowadays, turning the Bible inside out!" and she gave her characteristic sniff. "I'll have another cup of tea, Elizabeth. Now that we're through with the war, and settled solid-like with a President at the helm, we can look forward to something permanent, and comfort ourselves that it was worth trying for. Still, I've often thought of that awful waste of tea in Boston harbor. Seems as though they might have done something else with it. Tea will keep a good long while. And all that wretched stuff we used to drink and call it Liberty tea!" Aunt Priscilla never quite knew where she belonged. She had come over with the Puritans, at least her ancestors had, but then there had been a title in the English branch; and though she scoffed a little, she had great respect for royalty, and secretly regretted they had not called the head of the government by a more dignified appellation than President. Her mother had been a Church of England member, but rather austere Mr. Adams believed that wives were to submit themselves to their husbands in matters of belief as well as aught else. Then Priscilla Adams, at the age of nineteen, had wedded the man of her father's choice, Hatfield Perkins, who was a stanch upholder of the Puritan faith. Priscilla would have enjoyed a little foolish love-making, and she had a carnal hankering for fine gowns; and, oh, how she did long to dance in her youth, when she was slim and light-footed!
