Written in the genre of biographical fiction, it adheres to well-known, documented and recorded facts about the protagonists, save that when deficiency occurs the author's imagination has taken over."--Page vii.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eighth in the USA-Today bestselling Leigh Koslow Mystery Series! This curtain is going up… No matter what else goes down. Leigh’s intrepid Aunt Bess has decided that an abandoned building in the small Pittsburgh borough of West View would make the perfect theater for her troupe of local thespians, and when Bess sets her mind to something, it generally happens. Never mind that the building boasts a century-long history of nefarious owners, financial default, mysterious disappearances, drunken debauchery, regular break-ins, strange nighttime lights, at least one murder, and last but not least -- that nagging little accusation of devil worship. Though wary of the building’s macabre milieu, Leigh reluctantly allows her children to assist Bess by sorting through the decades of accumulated junk stashed in the erstwhile church’s basement. Little does she know that the kids’ findings are only the tip of an iceberg, and that for someone with her “proclivities,” this particular building is the last place she should be. With her friend Detective Maura Polanski expecting and stuck on bedrest, Leigh scrambles to unravel the link between the murders of the past and the growing threats of the present -- before this theater’s opening becomes someone’s end! Praise for the Leigh Koslow Mystery Series: NEVER BURIED "A funny, fast-paced, clever, and unusual mystery that will have readers clamoring for more. Edie Claire writes with style and dash. Sheer delight."—Carolyn Hart NEVER SORRY "Edie Claire is a bright new addition to the mystery world. Along with appealing characters and a blessedly lucid writing style, she delivers a solid plot that keeps the pages turning."—Margaret Maron NEVER TEASE A SIAMESE "The fifth installment in this excellent series, and perhaps Ms. Claire's best yet. The characters and relationships are superior, written with heartfelt compassion and wry wit."—Romantic Times

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a study of the commemoration of Classical Greek battles, approaching monuments and other mnemonic practices as vital elements in the creation and curation of memories. It analyzes the diachronic development of battlefield, sanctuary, and city spaces, as evidenced by archaeological remains and ancient literary sources. In addition, it explores the experience of the commemorative spaces through the application of theories of space, phenomenology, and social memory. Following a biographical approach, the commemoration of each battle is organized into stages of initial commemoration, official monumentalization, memory curation, memory lapse, and reception. The research has led to several conclusions. While the commemoration of each battle can be divided into stages, these stages are not always discrete. There is variation in the types of commemorations within the stages, dependent on time, surrounding space, and the parties involved. Single commemorations can resonate differently with multiple audiences. The processes within the stage of memory curation lead to the subsequent lapse. The final stage of commemoration for each battle begins with the rediscovery of ancient monuments and continues to this day. The battles of Marathon, Leuktra, and Chaironeia are case studies for three reasons. First, they effectively span the period of Classical Greece (Marathon in 490 BCE to Chaironeia in 338 BCE). Secondly, these battles had different participants, thus allowing a variety of perspectives of both the victorious and the defeated. Lastly, these were battles that left lasting impacts in the material and literary record, making their commemoration relevant not only in antiquity, but also in the modern world.

That was the experience of the few youthful hopefuls who founded an amazing tradition all those years ago. It was the experience too of the many who happened upon or sought out Theatre West Four and joined up to become faithful supporters and contributors. It became - for most of them - the centre of their social activity and natural supplier of entertainment; the highlight of each week. Too strong a statement? Her father is absorbed by running their dilapidated farm, and the four children are increasingly left to their own devices. These include "farming" each room of the house, looking after an enormous pet sheep called Jasper, and writing and directing plays in a disused hen house. But when the farm is threatened with demolition, Hannah determines to save it and realise her dreams at the same time... Shortlisted for the Waterstones Prize, this is a brilliant story of eccentric family life where the children's imaginations run as free as the farmyard animals. From the award-winning author of Evie's Ghost, Anna at War, The Farm Beneath the Water and the Jasmine Green series for younger readers, this is perfect for fans of Iva Ibbotson and Philippa Pearce.
