This book was released on 2017 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental studies of lean flammability limits (LFLs) for methane, hydrogen, carbon monoxide, in addition to mixtures of these gases (i.e. CH 4/H2, H2/CO, and CH4/CO2) were performed at temperatures up to 200° C and pressures up to 9 bar. ASTM Standard E918 (1983) provided the framework for tests at these elevated conditions, using a one-liter pressure-rated test cylinder in which the fuel-air mixtures were prepared and then ignited. Flammability is determined using a 7% and 5% pressure rise criterion per the ASTM E918 and European EN 1839 standards, respectively. The LFLs for each gas and gas mixture are found to decrease linearly with increasing temperature in the temperature range tested. The LFLs of hydrogen and mixtures containing hydrogen are observed to increase with an increase in the initial pressure, whereas the LFLs of all other mixtures exhibit a negligible dependence on pressure. For mixtures, predicted LFL values obtained using Le Chatelier's mixing rule are fairly consistent with the experimentally determined values near ambient conditions, however it is not recommended for use at elevated pressure and/or temperature. The purpose for characterizing the flammability limits for these gaseous mixtures is to extend the results to developing appropriate procedures for the safe industrial use of renewable gases, such as bio-derived methane, biogas composed mainly of methane and carbon dioxide, and renewably derived syngas which contains large quantities of hydrogen and carbon monoxide gas.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some Problems of Chemical Kinetics and Reactivity, Volume 1 consists of calculations on radical and radical chain reactions. The subject bond dissociation energies are fully discussed. The concept of uniradical reactivities is comprehensively explained. Isomerizations are a class of radical reactions in which the free valency takes another bond in the same radical. The text provides sample of experiments on the subject. The book contains a section on polar factors in organic reactions. Polymerizations are another concept covered in the book. Subjects such as the reactions of biradicals, the start and end of a chain reaction, and ions of variable valency are explained. A separate chapter of the book focuses on the kinetics of chain reactions. The cracking of hydrocarbons such as the alkane is analyzed in detail. The oxidation of hydrocarbons is another topic explained in the book. The text will provide excellent insight for chemists, students, and researchers in the field of chemistry.

Book excerpt: This literature survey digest of hydrogen-air combustion fundamentals presents data on flame temperature, burning velocity, quenching distance, flammability limits, ignition energy, flame stability, detonation, spontaneous ignition, and explosion limits. The data are assessed, recommended values are given, and relations among various combustion properties are discussed. New material presented includes: theoretical treatment of variation in spontaneous ignition lag with temperature, pressure, and composition, based on reaction kinetics of hydrogen-air composition range for 0.01 to 100 atmospheres and initial temperatures of 0 degrees to 1400 degrees k.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This newly reissued debut book in the Rutgers University Press Classics Imprint is the story of the search for a rocket propellant which could be trusted to take man into space. This search was a hazardous enterprise carried out by rival labs who worked against the known laws of nature, with no guarantee of success or safety. Acclaimed scientist and sci-fi author John Drury Clark writes with irreverent and eyewitness immediacy about the development of the explosive fuels strong enough to negate the relentless restraints of gravity. The resulting volume is as much a memoir as a work of history, sharing a behind-the-scenes view of an enterprise which eventually took men to the moon, missiles to the planets, and satellites to outer space. A classic work in the history of science, and described as “a good book on rocket stuff…that’s a really fun one” by SpaceX founder Elon Musk, readers will want to get their hands on this influential classic, available for the first time in decades.
