This book was released on 2013-07-19 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I found this doctoral thesis in the US Library of Congress. Weis presented it to the Faculté de Théologie protestante de l'Université de Strasbourg in 1929. Weis opens his preface, "No sympathetic life of Ludwig Hetzer has heretofore been written." He quotes Hetzer: "Oh God, my Father, grant us fearless prophets: Open my mouth and I will unflinchingly speak thy truth!" That Hetzer, husband and father of two sons, at age 29 was beheaded for speaking what he believed was the truth certainly deserves our sympathy. Weis includes a chronology, bibliography, appendix, and hymns in the original German and translated into English.

Book Synopsis New Directions in the Radical Reformation by :
Download or read book New Directions in the Radical Reformation written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-05-25 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The eight essays in this volume approach the study of the Radical Reformation from new perspectives and challenge some of the basic assumptions of the field. Some critique and problematize the typologies developed to distinguish Reformation radicals from each other and from the Magisterial Reformers. Others apply an equally iconoclastic approach to existing scholarship on the relationship between religious change and socio-political radicalism in early modern Europe. A final group concentrate specifically on revising the history of Anabaptism by tracing its long-term development across the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries and recovering the lives of normal Anabaptists to write a true social history of the movement that avoids relying on the biographies and prescriptive writings of its leadership.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook provides a comprehensive survey of current scholarship on Anabaptist and Spiritualist history and theology from 1521 to 1700. Since the last half of the twentieth century, the historiography of the Radical Reformation has been the focus of vigorous and creative debate. The volume–broadly cast in terms of geographic scope and topical coverage–carefully untangles the fluid boundaries of Spiritualism and Anabaptism in Early Modern European history. In addition to a narrative summary, each chapter also provides a bibliography of sources and current scholarship, and concludes with suggestions for future research. This handbook will serve a generation of students as the standard reference work on Anabaptism and Spiritualism. Contributors include: Geoffrey Dipple, Michael Driedger, Hans-Jürgen Goertz, Brad Gregory, Sigrun Haude, Ralf Klötzer, John D. Rempel, John D. Roth, Martin Rothkegel, C. Arnold Snyder, James Stayer, Piet Visser, and R. Emmet McLaughlin. Originally published in hardcover.

Book Synopsis Reformation Heroes by : Joel R. Beeke
Download or read book Reformation Heroes written by Joel R. Beeke and published by Reformation Heritage Books. This book was released on 2007-01-10 with total page 860 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Reformation did not happen instantaneously; it was something God patiently arranged over a number of years. As you read this book, you will learn how the Lord used some people to plant the seeds of church reform long before October 31, 1517, when Martin Luther published his ninety-five theses. Luther's story is well-known; we trust you will find it interesting and instructive to read about him and about forty others (John Knox, Peter Martyr Vermigli, Zacharias Ursinus, Willem Teellinck, etc.) who contributed to the Reformation - some well known and others not so - most of whom are Reformation heroes. To provide a more full picture of the many sided Reformation, chapters are also included on the Anabaptist and Counter Reformation movements. The book concludes with a brief summary of the influence of the Reformation in different areas of life.
