Book Synopsis The Voice of the Lord Is Unto All Men by : Damon Bahr
Download or read book The Voice of the Lord Is Unto All Men written by Damon Bahr and published by . This book was released on 2021-06-08 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a most unique approach to understanding the revelations that occurred in the Johnson Home in Hiram, Ohio over the period of less than a year. Nearly half of the sections in the Doctrine and Covenants were received in the 7 years the Church was headquartered in Kirtland, Ohio and surrounding area. The Johnson Home was the third of five homes that served as both living quarters for the Prophet and Emma as well as Church headquarters during the Kirtland period. In this home over a period of about 10 months, the Prophet received 16 revelations recorded in the Doctrine and Covenants, as well as part of another one. Additionally, well over half of the Joseph Smith Bible Translation was accomplished there, i.e., he made nearly 2000 inspired changes in the Bible while living in the Johnson Home. It is no wonder the bedroom he used as an office is often referred to as the Revelation Room. Clearly, no other place in Church history was as saturated with revelation than the year the Prophet and Emma lived there. Together, the revelations and the context in which they were received tell a story about one amazing year of the Restoration.

Book Synopsis Latter Days by : Clayton Corey Newell

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chances are very good that within five years someone close to you will have become a "Mormon," a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which adds a million converts every three years. An audacious claim? Try this one: Members of the Church will tell you exactly what God looks like, where he lives, what he wears. They can even describe his voice. Furthermore, they can tell you where you came from, why you're here on earth, and where you're likely to go after death. This is the story of the Latter-day Saints, the story of when God came back to earth and started things over. In person. It may be the most confident message of God in centuries. Written with the non-Latter-day-Saint reader firmly in mind, yet free of proselytory pretense, Latter Days explores an utterly unique catalog of Christian doctrine regarding the purpose of human existence and destiny. It presents the Mormon story of the creation of the world and lays out what Mormons believe is the divine plan for mankind, from Adam to Noah to Christ to Joseph Smith to Brigham Young. It relates the astonishing story of their great Exodus, as they were driven from the supposedly civilized United States to the wilderness of the Salt Lake-- a truly remarkable story that most of us were not taught in our high school history books. Latter Days reveals what may well be at once the most unique, the most misunderstood, and the most generous concept of Christian salvation ever developed. Coke Newell goes inside the very mind and heart of the faith, and does so from the perspective of an author/convert whose life has taken him from being a hippie in the Colorado Rockies to the inner sanctum of the faith in Salt Lake City, where he works as an international public-affairs officer at the Church's headquarters. Come, take a guided tour through the mind of Mormonism.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Tour: From Palmyra, New York, to Salt Lake City, Through the Stereoscope It seems fitting that the readers of this monograph be given an account of how it came to be written and the purposes for which it is submitted to the public. At present I occupy the residence known as the Old Jail, of Carthage, Hancock County, Illinois. During the past year it has been my privilege and pleasure to show hundreds of people through this building, made historic by the murder of the Prophet Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum within its walls. Among these visitors were many Latter-day Saints who were deeply interested in this historic place. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
