Book excerpt: This carefully crafted ebook: "The Jungle Book & The Second Jungle Book (Complete Edition with the Original Illustrations by John Lockwood Kipling)" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. "The Jungle Book" is a collection of stories. The tales in the book are fables, using animals in an anthropomorphic manner to give moral lessons. The verses of The Law of the Jungle, for example, lay down rules for the safety of individuals, families and communities. Kipling put in them nearly everything he knew or "heard or dreamed about the Indian jungle." The best-known of them are the three stories revolving around the adventures of an abandoned "man cub" Mowgli who is raised by wolves in the Indian jungle. The most famous of the other four stories are probably "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi", the story of a heroic mongoose, and "Toomai of the Elephants", the tale of a young elephant-handler. As with much of Kipling's work, each of the stories is preceded by a piece of verse, and succeeded by another. "The Second Jungle Book" is a sequel which features five stories about Mowgli and three unrelated stories, all but one set in India, most of which Kipling wrote while living in Vermont. Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936) was an English short-story writer, poet, and novelist. He wrote tales and poems of British soldiers in India and stories for children. He is regarded as a major innovator in the art of the short story; his children's books are classics of children's literature; and one critic described his work as exhibiting "a versatile and luminous narrative gift".

Book excerpt: An older Mowgli roams the jungle with his old animal friends and explores the ways of his people, a prime minister becomes a wandering holy man, scavengers tell their story and we leave India for the high, high north of Canada. "The Second Jungle Book" is a continuation of Rudyard Kipling's "Jungle Book". First published in 1895, it contains five stories about Mowgli and three independent stories, all except one in India, most of which were written by Kipling during his stay in Vermont. Here Kipling again shows his love for the Indian subcontinent and its people and his understanding of their belief in these stories. All stories were published in magazines as early as 1894-5, often under different titles. The 1994 film "The Jungle Book" used them as a source. The size of the eBook corresponds to about 250 printed pages, and it is provided with the original illustrations by John Lockwood Kipling (1837-1911). Book excerpt: Beatrix Potter's anthology, 'The World of Peter Rabbit & His Friends: 14 Books with 450+ Original Illustrations,' is an impeccable treasury that brings together the enchanting adventures of Peter Rabbit and a cast of other endearing characters. This collection is a triumph of both literary charm and classic storytelling, unified under Potter's unique illustration style that melds the pastoral with the whimsical. With engaging narratives that celebrate British countryside and wildlife, these stories are presented with Potter's precise and delightful prose, embedded in the larger context of Edwardian children's literature, yet transcending its era to achieve timelessness. Beatrix Potter, an author, illustrator, natural scientist, and conservationist, was inspired by the bucolic English landscape, the flora and fauna, and her own scientific endeavors to create a series of stories that would not only entertain but also subtly educate her readers. Her own life, marked by a deep connection with the natural world, and her progressive stance on land conservation, resonate through her work. She endowed her animal characters with human traits and societal satire, making her stories as insightful as they are charming, and advancing the genre of children's literature. This collection is a must-read for anyone who appreciates the fusion of exquisite illustration with masterful storytelling. It is not only a delightful journey through the simplistic yet nuanced world of Potter's creation but also an exploration of the values, challenges, and humor of human nature, mirrored through the lives of woodland creatures. Recommended for young readers and adults alike, Potter's tales endure, inviting us to meander down the garden path into a world both cozy and cunning, elegant and enduring. 'The World of Peter Rabbit & His Friends' promises not only to captivate but also to connect generations of readers with the charm that is quintessentially Potter.

Book excerpt: The Jungle Book (1894) is a collection of stories written by Rudyard Kipling. The tales in the book (and also those in The Second Jungle Book which followed in 1895, and which includes five further stories about Mowgli) are fables, using animals in an anthropomorphic manner to give moral lessons. The verses of The Law of the Jungle, for example, lay down rules for the safety of individuals, families and communities. Kipling put in them nearly everything he knew or ""heard or dreamed about the Indian jungle."" The stories were first published in magazines in 1893-94. The original publications contain illustrations, some by the author's father, John Lockwood Kipling. Rudyard Kipling was born in India and spent the first six years of his childhood there. After about ten years in England, he went back to India and worked there for about six-and-a-half years. These stories were written when Kipling lived in Naulakha, the home he built in Dummerston, Vermont, in the United States.
