Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Franz Kafka, the author has very nicely narrated the story of Gregou Samsa who wakes up one day to discover that he has metamorphosed into a bug. The book concerns itself with the themes of alienation and existentialism. The author has written many important stories, including The Judgement, and much of his novels Amerika, The Castle, The Hunger Artist. Many of his stories were published during his lifetime but many were not. Over the course of the 1920s and 30s Kafkas works were published and translated instantly becoming landmarks of twentieth-century literature. Ironically, the story ends on an optimistic note, as the family puts itself back together. The style of the book epitomizes Kafkas writing. Kafka very interestingly, used to present an impossible situation, such as a mans transformation into an insect, and develop the story from there with perfect realism and intense attention to detail. The Metamorphosis is an autobiographical piece of writing, and we find that parts of the story reflect Kafkas own life.

Book excerpt: I was sick, overweight, and depressed. I was coming off the heels of an intensely emotional breakup, while simultaneously dealing with a persistent infection of unknown origin. I was at a place where I felt like things would never get better. Doctor visit after failed doctor visit, I nearly came to the conclusion I would have to accept my reality. Before I was to give up, I wanted to allow myself an opportunity to figure things out on my own. Instead of relying on someone or something else, I realized I had to be responsible for my wellness. My story is one of transformation, and along the way, I went from having no control of my future to empowering others to reclaim their wellness using a simple fundamental practice. Through one ancient wellness technique, I not only discovered weight loss was quick, efficient, and cost-effective, but also that holistic wellness didn't have to feel like a far-out concept. I went from being sick, overweight, and depressed to losing 90 lb, being empowered, healthy, and joyful. Join me for my metamorphosis.

Book Synopsis The metamorphosis of autism by : Bonnie Evans
Download or read book The metamorphosis of autism written by Bonnie Evans and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2017-03-28 with total page 513 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This electronic version has been made available under a Creative Commons (BY-NC-ND) open access license. This book is available as an open access ebook under a CC-BY-NC-ND licence. What is autism and where has it come from? Increased diagnostic rates, the rise of the 'neurodiversity' movement, and growing autism journalism, have recently fuelled autism's fame and controversy. The metamorphosis of autism is the first book to explain our current fascination with autism by linking it to a longer history of childhood development. Drawing from a staggering array of primary sources, Bonnie Evans traces autism back to its origins in the early twentieth century and explains why the idea of autism has always been controversial and why it experienced a 'metamorphosis' in the 1960s and 1970s. Evans takes the reader on a journey of discovery from the ill-managed wards of 'mental deficiency' hospitals, to high-powered debates in the houses of parliament, and beyond. The book will appeal to a wide market of scholars and others interested in autism.

Book Synopsis The Metamorphosis of the World by : Ulrich Beck
Download or read book The Metamorphosis of the World written by Ulrich Beck and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-09-02 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We live in a world that is increasingly difficult to understand. It is not just changing: it is metamorphosing. Change implies that some things change but other things remain the same capitalism changes, but some aspects of capitalism remain as they always were. Metamorphosis implies a much more radical transformation in which the old certainties of modern society are falling away and something quite new is emerging. To grasp this metamorphosis of the world it is necessary to explore the new beginnings, to focus on what is emerging from the old and seek to grasp future structures and norms in the turmoil of the present. Take climate change: much of the debate about climate change has focused on whether or not it is really happening, and if it is, what we can do to stop or contain it. But this emphasis on solutions blinds us to the fact that climate change is an agent of metamorphosis. It has already altered our way of being in the world the way we live in the world, think about the world and seek to act upon the world through our actions and politics. Rising sea levels are creating new landscapes of inequality drawing new world maps whose key lines are not traditional boundaries between nation-states but elevations above sea level. It is creating an entirely different way of conceptualizing the world and our chances of survival within it. The theory of metamorphosis goes beyond theory of world risk society: it is not about the negative side effects of goods but the positive side effects of bads. They produce normative horizons of common goods and propel us beyond the national frame towards a cosmopolitan outlook.
Book Synopsis Metamorphosis through Conscious Living by : Ingo B. Jahrsetz
Download or read book Metamorphosis through Conscious Living written by Ingo B. Jahrsetz and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2017-08-21 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metamorphosis, the theme of this book, derives from the Ancient Greek language and refers to a transformative process that often includes disintegration and reintegration, on the route to conscious living with self, community and the world. This collection proposes that engagement with the sacred is what makes research and practice transpersonal, the sacred ‘other’ that lives both within and beyond us as individuals and unique cultures. The transpersonal approach is distinctive in that it regards the potential metamorphosis of all those involved in research and professional practice a core value. This volume engages the audience in professional, practical, as well as inquiry-related topics that reflect the diverse nature of the transpersonal studies field, and extend an experience of metamorphosis to the reader. The book moves scholarship forward in an innovative and creative way with relevant themes that not only honour the sacred, but lend a transpersonal paradigm to scientific and professional methods and models.

Book Synopsis The Metamorphosis + In the Penal Colony (2 contemporary translations by Ian Johnston) by : Franz Kafka
Download or read book The Metamorphosis + In the Penal Colony (2 contemporary translations by Ian Johnston) written by Franz Kafka and published by e-artnow. This book was released on 2013-11-10 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This carefully crafted ebook: "The Metamorphosis + In the Penal Colony (2 contemporary translations by Ian Johnston)" contains 2 books in one volume and is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. The Metamorphosis is a novella by Franz Kafka, first published in 1915. It has been cited as one of the seminal works of fiction of the 20th century and is studied in colleges and universities across the Western world. The story begins with a traveling salesman, Gregor Samsa, waking to find himself transformed (metamorphosed) into a large, monstrous insect-like creature. The cause of Samsa's transformation is never revealed, and Kafka never did give an explanation. The rest of Kafka's novella deals with Gregor's attempts to adjust to his new condition as he deals with being burdensome to his parents and sister, who are repulsed by the horrible, verminous creature Gregor has become. "In the Penal Colony" is a short story by Franz Kafka written in German in October 1914, and first published in October 1919. The story is set in an unnamed penal colony. Internal clues and the setting on an island suggest Octave Mirbeau's The Torture Garden as an influence. As in some of Kafka's other writings, the narrator in this story seems detached from, or perhaps numbed by, events that one would normally expect to be registered with horror.
