Book Synopsis Itinerant Kingship and Royal Monasteries in Early Medieval Germany, C.936-1075 by : John W. Bernhardt
Download or read book Itinerant Kingship and Royal Monasteries in Early Medieval Germany, C.936-1075 written by John W. Bernhardt and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2002-08-22 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In examining the relationship between the royal monasteries in tenth- and eleventh-century Germany and the German monarchs, this book assimilates a great deal of European scholarship on a central problem - that of the realities and structures of power. It focuses on the practical aspects of governing without a capital and while constantly in motion, and on the payments and services which monasteries provided to the king and which in turn supported the king's travel economically and politically. Royal-monastic relations are investigated in the context of the 'itinerant kingship' of the period to determine how this relationship functioned in practice. It emerges that German rulers did in fact make much greater use of their royal monasteries than has hitherto been recognised.
Download or read book The Itinerant written by D G Bryant and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-11-03 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Itinerant: On Restoration, Revival, and Redemption is a story of wisdom and folly, wisdom being preferable to seeking pleasure. The work is not just a story but a study on life experiences: good, bad, useful, and useless. It is a definitive work describing the benefits of seeking wisdom and knowledge and developing a healthy fear of the Lord; seeking his wisdom, strength, and glory rather than seeking pleasure that ultimately leads to dead ends, often leaving one with a bitter taste and a feeling of emptiness. The work describes what restoration, revival, and redemption are and what they are not. This work takes a good long look at all sides of life, all types of fools, and how to avoid fools and foolishness that more often than not just lead to destruction. So if you are reading this blurb and getting ready to read this book, get ready for an adventurous ecclesiastical journey, and hopefully, if you do not already know, you will before you are done, that as a believer in Christ Jesus, you are not a physical being on a spiritual journey in this world, but you are a spirit being on a physical journey.

Book excerpt: The life of the great French painter, one of the founders of Impressionism, is narrated in lush comic art reminiscent of his style. From the Salon des Refuses ("Salon of the Rejected") and many struggling years without recognition, money, and yet a family to raise, all the way to great success, critically and financially, Monet pursued insistently one vision: catching the light in painting, refusing to compromise on this ethereal pursuit. It cost him dearly but he was a beacon for his contemporaries. We discover in this comics biography how he came to this vision as well as his turbulent life pursuing it.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume the authors present an alternative approach to the history of gypsies and travelling groups in western Europe. By focusing on processes of social construction, stigmatization and categorization, they offer new insights into the development of government policies towards itinerants in general and the ethnicization of some of these groups in particular. They analyze the western images and representations of gypsies and other itinerant groups, at the same time focusing on their functions for the labour market. By doing so, they add a new chapter to the field of social history.
Book Synopsis Itinerant Spectator/Itinerant Spectacle by : P. A. Skantze
Download or read book Itinerant Spectator/Itinerant Spectacle written by P. A. Skantze and published by . This book was released on 2013-12-20 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Itinerant Spectator/Itinerant Spectacle moves across the landscape of European performance in late 20th and early 21st centuries, recounting performance in circulation across national borders and across the itinerant bodies of spectators who travel to meet performances that travel. Itinerant Spectator/Itinerant Spectacle suggests spectating is a practice - an act of interpretation engaged in more than simply receiving the affects of a performance, a companion practice to the making of performance. The work forms a part of Skantze's ongoing explorations of what she terms the 'epistemology of practice as research.'IS/IS theorizes spectating as a practice that extends beyond the theatre, as a practice of writing as recollecting (and recollecting as writing) at the center of what has been called "criticism." The book grounds spectatorship in the subjective, embodied, differenced practice of spectating not from a fixed location or standpoint but from a ground that constantly shifts, that is, from the ground of the roving positionalities of the "itinerate spectator." Following Walter Benjamin, for example, Skantze importantly adopts the privileges of the flaneur as a feminist and rather queer project, one that refuses to be tied to the minor position, to that of the impossible "flaneuse.""obility.
