Book excerpt: The Iron Grip by Edgar Wallace is about ordinary, well-educated Jack Bryce and his new career as a detective after just getting out of the military. Excerpt: "Captain Jack Bryce, inscribed in the family records as John Richard Plantagenet, but better known amongst his intimate friends as Wireless Bryce, had dropped his army title, for he had discovered that it prejudiced rather than helped his chance of securing employment. It was as plain Mr. Bryce that he was ushered into the private office of Hemmer & Hemmer, and Mr. James Hemmer, the senior partner of that eminent firm of lawyers, received him."

Book excerpt: Richard Horatio Edgar Wallace (1 April 1875 - 10 February 1932) was an English writer. He joined the army at age 21 and was a war correspondent during the Second Boer War, for Reuters and the Daily Mail. Struggling with debt, he left South Africa, returned to London, and began writing thrillers to raise income, publishing books including The Four Just Men (1905). Drawing on his time as a reporter in the Congo, covering the Belgian atrocities, Wallace serialised short stories in magazines such as The Windsor Magazine and later published collections such as Sanders of the River (1911). In 1931 he moved to Hollywood, where he worked as a script writer for RKO. He died suddenly from undiagnosed diabetes, during the initial drafting of King Kong (1933). Wallace was such a prolific writer that one of his publishers claimed that a quarter of all books in England were written by him.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Through this wonderful book, frustrated golfers can learn to swing like Moe [Norman] and improve their games.” —Anthony Robbins, #1 New York Times–bestselling author The mysterious and reclusive genius Moe Norman is acknowledged as the best ball-striker in the history of golf by many of the game’s greats. The Single Plane Golf Swing: Play Better Golf the Moe Norman Way reveals the secrets of the swing that enabled him to hit the ball solidly with unerring accuracy and consistency—every time. Norman’s simple, efficient, and easily understood Single Plane Swing has improved the games of thousands of golfers. Golf professional Todd Graves, known as “Little Moe” and regarded as the world authority on Norman’s swing, comprehensively teaches readers the mechanics, drills, and feelings of the Single Plane Swing that Moe called “The Feeling of Greatness.” Graves shares Norman’s brilliant insights and liberating approach to the game and demonstrates why the conventional “tour” swing is too complex and frustrating for the majority of amateurs. Illustrated with more than 300 photographs and written with Tim O’Connor, Norman’s biographer, the book also engagingly tells Norman’s bittersweet life story and explores the teacher-student bond forged between Norman and his protégé Graves. “One of golf’s greatest untold stories, Moe Norman’s life illustrated a simple and powerful truth: greatness is built from practicing the right swing in the right way. In this book, Todd Graves has given us a blueprint for that swing, for those practice habits, and most of all for a process that builds success.” —Dan Coyle, New York Times-bestselling author of The Culture Code

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ONLY course that will give you that CAST IRON grip with an “unnatural pull to it” – and INHUMAN levels of RAGING “ape like” strength throughout the entire upper body. If you’re interested in grip training, and have already devoured my initial course on grip strength “Gorilla Grip”, but are looking for more – – well, look no further. First off, congratulations. I’m assuming that since you’re on this page, you’ve gotten past the 16 or so exercises (and their variants) that I’ve mentioned in the initial course, and that alone puts you into a very RARE category – – rarest of rare, if I might say so – – part of a SELECT bunch of people that are ALWAYS looking to improve no matter how “good” they may get at something. And that is how it should be. Remember, it’s nigh impossible to master any exercise – – and the same thing holds true, or doubly true for grip strength. And for those of you that think you’ve already got a rock solid cast iron grip due to hours of doing pull-ups (or lifting weights)?Think you’ve already got finger strength that is unrivalled amongst your peers? Well, that’s great – – but I guarantee you – – what I’ve got to offer you in this course will make you think again, my friend. In fact, I would be understating it to say that JAWS can, will and literally DO drop after doing some of the exercises I mention in this course, if just because of the way they quite literally leave your forearms, fingers and grip feeling like pulp – – not to mention your shoulders, upper body and core – – all of which get a better workout in ways different than you’ve ever gotten before. So you’re certainly at the right place. Gorilla grip X 2 – or MORE – levels of grip strength – – or in other words, INHUMAN levels of strength in your wrists, fingers and forearms that you never knew you could attain. If folks were shying away from shaking your hand before, they won’t come close now.Respect and CONFIDENCE in spades – they say a man (or a woman’s) grip says a lot about his/her character, and it’s true, my friend. ‘Tis so true. When you’ve got this sort of rugged ape like grip, you’ll be more confident than the rest of the folks in the room – and this confidence will display itself without you meaning to from the MINUTE you shake hands with someone. Not only that – you’ll get that look of “respect” from other folks as they admiringly and “grudgingly” in some cases (and usually silently) acknowledge the “grip from hell” you’ve got!THICK, STRONG fingers of rebar that are EVERY bit as RUGGEDLY strong as they look – – in ALL directions (this alone is a mind bender for most folks, but you’ll see what I mean when you get cracking on the exercises). Hands that can handle heavy weights without concern – – and I don’t mean the nonsense at the gyms. I mean REAL heavy weights – in the REAL world. Such as massive stones, for instance.Hands, and ARMS that can handle ANY situation with aplomb. Wouldn’t you like to live with the confidence that you had the strength to climb down the pipes running down your building in case of a fire or other emergency? Well, THIS course will give you that strength! Massive Popeye like forearms with veins running up and down them – and upper arms to boot. Bicep strength you cannot get from doing curls – in fact, some of this stuff will give you INSANE levels of strength that you couldn’t hope to achieve from YEARS of doing curls. A compact, powerfully built yet lean “packed” chest that will be the envy of all. You’ll NEVER feel shy again about taking your shirt off in public! And all of this would be incomplete without mentioning the core, my friend. Not only will all this work your CORE and LOWER BACK like NEVER BEFORE – – it’ll also build that proverbial “12 pack” that most gym goers and trainees in general crave but usually never end up getting. And more - and all this is just off the TOP of my head, my friend. Dive straight in - be prepared to be nigh BLOWN AWAY.

Book excerpt: Stanislavski’s ‘system’ has dominated actor-training in the West since his writings were first translated into English in the 1920s and 30s. His systematic attempt to outline a psycho-physical technique for acting single-handedly revolutionized standards of acting in the theatre. Until now, readers and students have had to contend with inaccurate, misleading and difficult-to-read English-language versions. Some of the mistranslations have resulted in profound distortions in the way his system has been interpreted and taught. At last, Jean Benedetti has succeeded in translating Stanislavski’s huge manual into a lively, fascinating and accurate text in English. He has remained faithful to the author's original intentions, putting the two books previously known as An Actor Prepares and Building A Character back together into one volume, and in a colloquial and readable style for today's actors. The result is a major contribution to the theatre, and a service to one of the great innovators of the twentieth century.

Often I have been very surprised to find that weight lifters with world-famed names have been possessed of very ordinary grip power. I imagine it was the realization of this which led me, even in my very early days, to deliberately develop my gripping power, feeling I would more or less have the field to myself if I could gain a huge forearm with gripping power in proportion. And it may be encouraging to the beginner who happens to have a light skeleton, i.e. small wrists and hands, etc., to know that whatever success I achieved was in the face of never exceeding a seven-inch wrist. For years I stayed around the 140 lb. mark, having light legs and bones on the small side. But eventually I worked up to being a real heavyweight (210 lbs.) with a 50-inch chest, 17 neck, 19 biceps, 15 inch forearm (measured with a STRAIGHT ARM, not a bent arm - this is important), 27 thigh and 17 inch calf. So don't allow yourself to become downhearted if you haven't heavy bones. I perfected a set of movements which definitely assisted forearm development and I will describe them for the readers' benefit because no matter what sport or game you may be interested in - golf, tennis, cricket, boxing, rowing, fencing and particularly WEIGHT LIFTING, you will be much handicapped if deficient in grip and helped considerably if you have a 'grip of steel.'" - Thomas Inch This is a restored and re-formatted edition of Inch's 1930 classic.
