Book excerpt: (Bio CLICK name above) This Science Fiction story is the first effort of a self taught sixty year old High School graduate born in the Ozark Hills of Southern Missouri. (Included is a description of the Phoenix UFO mentioned on an ABC Peter Jennings UFO News Special.) Dr. Warpenstein is based on my beliefs that there are at least two predominantly competing forces in a today world that demand a reasoned evolution from sciences nano technologies, artificial intelligence and genetic engineering . . . One is terrorism, which is, sadly, too often attached to the great values expressed in religions. Conversely, revolutionary advances coming from great minds of science that could catapult society into a new age of miracles and change . . . We already know what the past holds. Consider this: At present, it may take only one individual, or a few, to carry a weapon of mass destruction into a modern city and destroy it. Conversely, it may take only one individual, or a few great scientist, to suddenly discover a new revolution that saves the world from certain destruction. I can see no reasonable alternative for preventing mankinds Jane Goodal-alpha-monkey jungle side of human nature from committing atrocious acts that could pull modern society back into a new age of darkness; accept by accelerating evolution (changing human nature) through the methods of science, and the mind. Modern society may have no choice but to improve the cognitive wiring, and reduce the aggression level, of all human beings on EARTH. The big question will become, how to accomplish it, SIMULTANEOUSLY. In my story, Dr. Warpenstein attempts to accomplish this goal by OTHER MEANS. In the end, maybe some combination of methods will become necessitous. I admit that the description to this story is written in a more serious frame than is the story. I merely wanted to express some more serious ideas, but then, I precede to present the story in a some what silly and playful mode of which Ive imagine would be more salable. Here is a short synopsis of this story: _____________________________________________________________________________DR. WARPENSTEIN: A low ranking ex-pilot flying missions for the super secret NSA (National Security Agency or popular misnomer NO SUCH AGENCY) is now a truck driver with a hitchhiker girl friend and her son caught up in the malign plans of some government black projects scientist named "Dr. Warpenstein" and his intellectual cohorts plotting to secure the worlds freedoms by exploiting advanced technologies to conduct an unauthorized FIRST STRIKE on its enemies. By way of a fluke of events the characters are drawn into the stealthy web of Dr. Warpenstein. James Walker, his girl friend, and a belated friend from a UFO society become entangled with the doctor in a quest for revenge and enlightenment. What they discover are the sinister plans of the doctor and his group of scientists to change the world into some numen for peace EVERMORE. They have ideas that attract and hold the promise of an EVERLASTING peace. UTOPIA you say! One of the doctors own intelligent android creations named FLAT SCREEN, designed to function within perimeters never to harm human beings, becomes a kind of Archimedes Heel to Dr. WARPENSTEINs plans. Its a counterpoint between Classical Rachmaninoff and Classical Rock, romances and comedy, diabolic and malign; enormous ships called the BIG STAR and LITTLE STAR powered by a Warpenstein Field Drive that goes WARPA, WARPA, maybe with a silent "A. A time when local sentiments were on the boil, blatantly used by a rogue neighboring country and turning it into a proxy war. The era depicts heavy-armed confrontations between the radicals and the Indian Army on its own soil. It is a comprehensive portrayal of the war-like situation prevailing in the valley during the period, the audacity displayed by the army in taming the belligerents, as also the efforts made to win back the hearts and minds of the local population. It is a collation of few high dividend operations selected based on the degree of difficulty and the value addition in achieving the task with minimum collateral damages.

Book excerpt: Helen usually was playing by herself, and pretending, as now, to be sharing the sport of some playfellow, perfectly tangible to her, but invisible, non-existent to the boys—a form of persistent “make believe” which greatly amused Hugh and as greatly irritated Stephen. “Don’t pretend like that; it’s a simpleton way of going on,” the older boy called to her now, without moving his head or his eyes. “It’s nothing of the kind,” the girl replied scornfully. “You’re blind, that’s what’s the matter—blinder’n a bat, both of you.” And she continued to laugh and chat with her “make-believe” playmates. An elfin child herself, the children of her own delicate myth did seem the more suitable fellows for her dainty frolic than either queer Stephen or stolid, clumsy Hugh. The little girl was very pretty, a queenly little head heavy with vivid waves of gold-red hair, curved red lips eloquent of the history of centuries of womanhood, wide blue eyes, and the prettiest hands and arms that even feminine babyhood (and English babyhood, Celtic-dashed at that) had ever yet achieved; every pink-tipped finger a miracle, and each soft, beautifully molded elbow, dimpled and dented with witching chinks that simply clamored for kisses—and often got them; a sunny, docile child, yielding but unafraid, quiet and reserved, but hiding under its rose and snow robe of provocatively pretty flesh, a will that never swerved: the strongest will at Deep Dale—and that says everything of it—for both Stephen Pryde, fourteen years old, and his uncle, nearing fifty, had stronger wills than often fall to us weak mortals of drift and vacillation. These two masculine strengths of will lay rough and prominent on the surface and also sank soul-deep. The uncle’s never abated. Circumstances and youth curbed the boy’s, at times—but neither chilled nor softened it. Helen’s will lay deep and still. Her pretty, smiling surface never showed it by so much as a gentle ripple. She kept it as a sort of spiritual “Sunday best” laid away in the lavender and tissue of her secret self. As yet only her old Scotch nurse even suspected its existence and of all her little, subservient world, only that old Scotch nurse neither laughed at Helen’s dream friends—nor scoffed. In her sweet six years of life her father’s will and hers had never clashed. That, when the almost inevitable clash of child and parent, old and young, cautious experience and adventurous inexperience, came, Helen’s should prove the stronger will, and hers the victory, would have seemed absurd and incredible to all who knew them—to every one except the nurse.

We do not know, for how long the Novel Coronavirus is going to control our activities, our fears, and our lifestyle. Experts believe that the main reason behind the spread of such diseases, which can be transmitted to humans from animals, is deforestation and climate change. Coronaviruses, including those related to SARS-CoV-2, are present in many wild mammals in Asia. Corona is not the first, and most certainly, will not be the last pandemic that the world is going to face. In the Post -Ccovid Eera all countries must be in routine preparedness for such influenza pandemics or other virus pandemics. All countries need to strengthen the healthcare systems and upgrade the reporting process and protocol to handle such crises. One of the main reasons behind this pandemic is the greed of human beings. Dangerous viruses have spread, mainly, due to deforestation. It has resulted in environmental damage causing climate change and ultimately destroying the natural habitat of wildlife. Increasing demand for minerals, palm oil, beef, and wood products is the main reason for deforestation forcing a change in the natural habitat of animals. We must cut the emission of greenhouse gases in the next twenty years, otherwise, the average global temperature will increase by more than 2 0 C, resulting in expanding deserts, disappearing ice caps, rising oceans, and even more extreme weather events. These changes, in turn, will disrupt agriculture production, inundate cities on the seashore, and make much of the world uninhabitable. Unfortunately, most governments are ignoring the threat. If we learn our lessons in the wake of COVID-19 and other pandemics and about the consequences of inaction, we shall be more prepared to save lives and future generations.

Book excerpt: Despite Alexander the Great's unprecedented accomplishments, during the last seven years of his life, this indomitable warrior became increasingly unpredictable, sporadically violent, megalomaniacal, and suspicious of friends as well as enemies. What could have caused such a lamentable transformation? This biography seeks to answer that question by assessing the role of alcohol in Alexander the Great's life, using the figure of Dionysus as a symbol of its destructive effects on his psyche. The unique methodology employed in this book explores various aspects of Alexander's life while maintaining an historical framework. The exposition of the main theme is handled in such a way that the biography will appeal to general readers as well as scholars.

Book excerpt: During the Silent Era, when most films dealt with dramatic or comedic takes on the "boy meets girl, boy loses girl" theme, other motion pictures dared to tackle such topics as rejuvenation, revivication, mesmerism, the supernatural and the grotesque. A Daughter of the Gods (1916), The Phantom of the Opera (1925), The Magician (1926) and Seven Footprints to Satan (1929) were among the unusual and startling films containing story elements that went far beyond the realm of "highly unlikely." Using surviving documentation and their combined expertise, the authors catalog and discuss these departures from the norm in this encyclopedic guide to American horror, science fiction and fantasy in the years from 1913 through 1929.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Having known Rebecca for close to three years, one would not have considered her to be an author being always a quiet person. However, in the last year or so, she has become an outspoken young lady in the ways of what the Almighty has done in her life. And as I delved into this writing of hers, I often wondered, why did it take her so long to come out of her shell? As she describes many times the trials and tribulations she was going through, she always knew one thing; it was a win-win situation. She knew if she followed her Heavenly Father and the voice of His Son, Jesus, her Lord, He would cause her to have victory. In several sections of the book, she reveals deep spiritual things and experiences, as she does so, she prays for strength and wisdom. With her insight into the future and the past, she will keep you at the edge of your seat. Grab a cup of coffee, a comfortable seat, and begin to peer into her world of win-win's! John Davis, Elder at Kahilat Kol Simcha I have known Rebecca J. Hightower for two years. It seems like an eternity. Rebecca is a woman of God who is constantly researching, questioning, and encouraging others to think and search for the answers also. She knows no stranger and is constantly helping those in need. When asked to read her book Life Really is Win-Win. I was unsure of what to expect yet I was amazed at the depth of knowledge of scripture. I was intrigued by the encouragement for the reader to explore the scriptures for the answers. For all who read her book and take her advice, they will find a deeper understanding of the Word of God what it means to us for a time such as this. Joyce Ferrate RN
