Book Synopsis Development of High-temperature Strain Gages by : J. W. Pitts
Download or read book Development of High-temperature Strain Gages written by J. W. Pitts and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A summary is presented of a research program aimed at the improvement of high-temperature strain gages of the electrical resistance type. Potential ceramic and metal components were evaluated and a gage was devised that was based on these evaluations. This gage (NBS 5B) was flexible and easy to install; however, it lacked resistance stability at higher temperatures. In an attempt to minimize this deficiency, ceramic cements were developed that showed greater electrical resistivity than had been previously observed in the range 800 to 1800 degrees Fahrenheit; also, a technique was devised for increasing the resistance to ground by applying a fired-on ceramic coating to the grid of a specifically developed unbacked gage. A study was made of the cause of the erratic response of cemented gages that had not been preheated prior to use. There were strong indications that the erratic response was caused mostly by the rapid decrease in resistance that accompanied structural changes in the cement.

Download or read book Inverse Heat Transfer written by M. Necat Ozisik and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2000-04-01 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the fundamental concepts of inverse heat transfer problems. It presents in detail the basic steps of four techniques of inverse heat transfer protocol, as a parameter estimation approach and as a function estimation approach. These techniques are then applied to the solution of the problems of practical engineering interest involving conduction, convection, and radiation. The text also introduces a formulation based on generalized coordinates for the solution of inverse heat conduction problems in two-dimensional regions.

Book Synopsis Modeling in Materials Processing by : Jonathan A. Dantzig
Download or read book Modeling in Materials Processing written by Jonathan A. Dantzig and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2001-11-12 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematical modeling and computer simulation are useful tools for improving materials processing. While courses in materials processing have covered modeling, they have been devoted to one particular class of materials--polymers, metals, or ceramics. This text offers a new approach, presenting an integrated treatment of metallic and non-metallic materials. The authors show that a common base of knowledge--specifically, the fundamentals of heat transfer and fluid mechanics--unifies these seemingly disparate areas. They emphasize understanding basic physical phenomena and knowing how to include them in a model. The book also includes selected numerical methods, a wealth of practical, realistic examples, and homework exercises.
Book Synopsis Refining and Casting of Steel by : Karel Gryc
Download or read book Refining and Casting of Steel written by Karel Gryc and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-11-09 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Steel has become the most requested material all over the world during the rapid technological evolution of recent centuries. As our civilization grows and its technological development becomes connected with more demanding processes, it is more and more challenging to fit the required physical and mechanical properties for steel in its huge portfolio of grades for each steel producer. It is necessary to improve the refining and casting processes continuously to meet customer requirements and to lower the production costs to remain competitive. New challenges related to both the precise design of steel properties and reduction in production costs are combined with paying special attention to environmental protection. These contradictory demands are the theme of this book.
