Book excerpt: A rebel in her own quiet way, Tracy Austin was never one to sit silently by and let others dictate her life. A passive yet strong-willed young woman, she did not let her upbringing in a traditional Brahmin household keep her from challenging customs and traditions. In many ways, she was a victim of circumstances, but she found the strength to hold her ground when events overtook her. As a child, she played in the foothills of the Himalayas, where she blissfully chased butterflies and rainbows Her two best friends, Chotu and Chandini, were two tame elephants—and her favorite partners in spirited games of hide-and-seek. Her relationships were complicated . Tracy wasn’t sure if she even understood what love meant, when much of what she had experienced was so painful. When she is reunited with Mark, a young man who further confuses her definitions and expectations, she dares to dream of a new beginning. But on what should have been one of the happiest days of her life, her world is ripped apart. As she is giving birth, an offhand comment made by a doctor reveals something she never knew about her own parentage. Tracy is devastated. Can she find the courage and strength to move forward with her dignity and hope intact?

Book excerpt: Born into poverty in Mississippi at the close of the nineteenth century, Charley Patton and Jimmie Rodgers established themselves among the most influential musicians of their era. In Tune tells the story of the parallel careers of these two pioneering recording artists -- one white, one black -- who moved beyond their humble origins to change the face of American music. At a time when segregation formed impassable lines of demarcation in most areas of southern life, music transcended racial boundaries. Jimmie Rodgers and Charley Patton drew inspiration from musical traditions on both sides of the racial divide, and their songs about hard lives, raising hell, and the hope of better days ahead spoke to white and black audiences alike. Their music reflected the era in which they lived but evoked a range of timeless human emotions. As the invention of the phonograph disseminated traditional forms of music to a wider audience, Jimmie Rodgers gained fame as the "Father of Country Music," while Patton's work eventually earned him the title "King of the Delta Blues." Patton and Rodgers both died young, leaving behind a relatively small number of recordings. Though neither remains well known to mainstream audiences, the impact of their contributions echoes in the songs of today. The first book to compare the careers of these two musicians, In Tune is a vital addition to the history of American music.

Book Synopsis Write in Tune: Contemporary Music in Fiction by : Erich Hertz
Download or read book Write in Tune: Contemporary Music in Fiction written by Erich Hertz and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2014-05-22 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contemporary popular music provides the soundtrack for a host of recent novels, but little critical attention has been paid to the intersection of these important art forms. Write in Tune addresses this gap by offering the first full-length study of the relationship between recent music and fiction. With essays from an array of international scholars, the collection focuses on how writers weave rock, punk, and jazz into their narratives, both to develop characters and themes and to investigate various fan and celebrity cultures surrounding contemporary music. Write in Tune covers major writers from America and England, including Don DeLillo, Jonathan Franzen, Zadie Smith, and Jim Crace. But it also explores how popular music culture is reflected in postcolonial, Latino, and Australian fiction. Ultimately, the book brings critical awareness to the power of music in shaping contemporary culture, and offers new perspectives on central issues of gender, race, and national identity.

Download or read book In Tune with Him Daily written by Inyang Ukot and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2020-07-16 with total page 798 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This devotional is the product of a deep-seated desire to place in the hands of readers a unique material that meets the needs of youths, middle-aged and the elderly. This book meets your needs today, is entirely practical just as it is entirely scriptural. In terms of arrangement, it starts by reminding the reader of the Lord’s Prayer. Unlike most devotionals, it has table of contents that tells the reader the topics, dates and pages where the subjects are treated for the entire year; the reader can go to a topic of interest and read it before or after the date. Moreover, there is no assigned year, making it valid any year. You can purchase it on any day of the year, start using it and get back to that date the following year. Topics are taken from Genesis to Revelation. Bible passages averagely stay within fifteen verses, with depth of contents even when just one verse is studied. The icing on the cake consists of four feature articles and ten word-search puzzles. The titles of the feature articles include: The Youth: The Errors of Rachel; Trust; and Challenges and Fulfilment of The Elderly. They cover interesting areas on youths, women, children and the elderly, respectively. The ten puzzles are for your exercise. Even readers completely unfamiliar with the Bible are welcome as the this ‘study-devotional’ meets everyone’s heartfelt needs.

Fifty-Five Fathers is your chance to share as fifty-five men from 18 to 80 and various backgrounds reveal hundreds of personal stories about growing up with their dads. Each man's chapter is 2 to 8 pages long. After Jeff's father passed away, he started asking his male friends about their fathers. Download or read book G.E.M.S. written by Daphne Valcourt and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2022-11-08 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the ancient traditions, inspirational life lessons and words of wisdom were passed on from one generation to the next through the oral tradition; modern technology (television, electronic games, gizmos, and social media) however has replaced these oral traditions resulting in important life lessons and impactful stories that help to strengthen character and build resilience not being passed on. This book was written as a legacy to my daughter to help preserve these life lessons for generations to come; in so doing, these lessons will not be lost or forgotten. In times of crisis or distress, most people tend to revert to a more primitive form of existence to seek for strength, but conceivably, if the life lessons were never learned then there would be nothing to revert to; it is then that they give up in defeat. This book has valuable life lessons, impactful stories and research discoveries, which are called “G.E.M.S” and is shared to encourage and strengthen you in your personal journey. Enjoy the Journey! Book Synopsis In Tune with Myself-Divine Intervention by : Tiffiny N Jones
Download or read book In Tune with Myself-Divine Intervention written by Tiffiny N Jones and published by Fulton Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-03-20 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Tune with Myself: Divine Intervention is about a small-time country girl who had come from a town in Louisiana called Winnsboro and endured many things coming from a place to where I was told that I was nothing. Whether those events that happened to me was intentional or unintentional to destroy me, I don’t know. All I know is that life happened and life continued happening to the point to where I had to come to grips with who I was, what happened to me in my life, and where I was headed if I was going to make it in this life. I had to some kind of way get in tune with myself. Being raised as having a parent as a Southern Devout Baptist minister who was very strict and having the other who was rarely at home, I learned to wear a mask and hide who I was in order to deal with what was happening within me and around me, which caused me to make some really poor choices in life that could have cost me my life. I was on an emotional roller coaster, and I needed help. Had I known who I was, or had I have been emotionally stable, I truly feel that I may have made better choices in my life. I had to learn how to identify with myself and take the mask off. So by me growing up in the church and learning about a man named Jesus and how he loves us so much, I went back to those teachings so that I could stop making a mess out of my life. So this is what I mean by a divine intervention. I needed help, and I reached out to what I believed was my source for help along with counseling. I remember as a child that there is one who cares if no one else cares. So I went back to my roots with prayer and faith, trusting and hoping for a change to come within me, in which it most certainly did. I have indeed come a long way, but I still have ways to go.
