Book excerpt: Using the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta's Business Inflation Expectations (BIE) survey, which has been continuously collecting subjective probability distributions over own-firm future unit costs since October 2011, we document two facts about firms' marginal cost expectations and risk during the COVID-19 pandemic. First, in the early months of the pandemic, firms, on net, saw COVID-19 largely as a demand shock and lowered their one-year-ahead expectations. However, as the pandemic wore on, firms' one-year-ahead unit cost expectations rose sharply alongside their views on supply chain and operating capacity disruptions. Second, the balance of unit cost risks shifted sharply over the course of the pandemic, and by the end of 2022, upside risks had sharply outweighed perceived downside risks during the year ahead. We find that both positive demand shocks (for example, large order backlogs) and negative supply shocks (such as long supplier delivery times and labor shortages) have contributed to elevated short-term unit cost expectations and risk. Specifically, supply shocks accounted for roughly 40 percent of the increase in manufacturers' and nearly onethird of service-providers' unit cost expectations.

This study aims to provide a holistic view of the impact of COVID-19 on E-commerce and the limitations of current supply chain practices to face the disruption. The significant trends found were increased E-commerce grocery shopping, expansion in customer base, increased online transactions and increased logistical delays in deliveries from the business side. On the supply chain side, significant disruption was found in - sourcing, procurement, and supply of products due to global movement restrictions. Besides, disruptions in distribution and logistics have also been pointed out frequently. As resolutions, nearshoring, localization, implementation of technologies to improve traceability, visibility and increasing data transfer transparency have been discussed the most. The scope of this research was identified as the use of technology and the internet is growing rapidly among the mass population. As a result, it provides an immense growth opportunity to the worldwide E-commerce market. However, we should also understand that E-commerce is primarily a platform through which businesses can make their products visible to their target customers. This paper studies the implications of supply chain disruptions for inflation and monetary policy in sub-Saharan Africa. Increases in supply chain pressures have had a sizeable impact on headline, food, and tradable inflation for a panel of 29 sub-Saharan African countries from 2000 to 2022. Our findings suggest that central banks can stabilize inflation and output more efficiently by monitoring global supply chains and adjusting the monetary policy stance before the disruptions have fully passed through into all inflation components. The gains from monitoring supply chain disruptions are particularly large for open economies which tend to experience outsized second-round effects on the prices of non-tradable goods and services.

Major patterns include a cost-perspective and a focus on manufacturing. There are trends of 3D printing, ecommerce, and a new approach to supply. This research will help businesses see how their supply chains could be affected, and contributes actionable recommendations to the field. This research can help supply chains stay stable during COVID-19, and help companies gain a competitive advantage. It is recommended that businesses try to have backup suppliers in an unaffected area. Businesses should change work policies based on the COVID-19 environment. Production line structures and factories should support efficiency. Economies of scale should be integrated into the outline of business processes. Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) is also recommended. There are also recommendations for specific stages. Collaboration, and insight into business specific supply chain conditions, are needed to implement these recommendations.
