Book Synopsis ECAT Assay Procedures A Manual of Laboratory Techniques by : J. Jespersen
Download or read book ECAT Assay Procedures A Manual of Laboratory Techniques written by J. Jespersen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a description of current and recently developed laboratory assays in the field of haemostasis and thrombosis. It is the result of a unique cooperation between experts from more than 60 institutes in 12 European countries, brought together by the ECA T (European Concerted Action on Thrombosis and Disabilities) under the auspices of the Commission of the European Communities in Brussels, Belgium. The ECAT, which was initiated in 1981, designed and performed three prospective clinical studies to establish haemostatic factors as risk indicators of thrombosis. Included were patients with angina pectoris at risk from myocardial infarction, patients undergoing angioplasty at risk from re-stenosis, and patients receiving hip replacement at risk from deep venous thrombosis. Assay procedures were chosen, training courses for technicians held, and essential reagents were supplied from a central source. A quality control assessment scheme served to compare assay results both within and between laboratories. In the angina pectoris study, centres determined most of the assays locally; in the other two studies assays were performed centrally. The need for further quality assessment in Europe Dr J. F. Davidson in Glasgow, led to a separate activity coordinated by including coagulation inhibitors and plasminogen as risk factors for familial venous thrombosis. The Editors hope the ECA T Assay Procedures book will contribute to further harmonization ofhaemostasis assays, and ultimately to their standardization.
Book Synopsis Genitourinary Infections by : Hugh Young
Download or read book Genitourinary Infections written by Hugh Young and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Immunoassay Kit Directory, Series B: Infectious Diseases deals with commercially available immunoassay kits for the diagnosis of clinically important infectious diseases. Detailed information about each kit is provided; over 19 different major parameters are listed in a consistent manner to allow for easy comparison. Each organism is introduced by a short article and there are also review articles of relevance to the current issue. Comprehensive indexes are provided. This part of the Directory covers kits for the diagnosis of genitourinary infections such as chlamydia, hepatitis A, B, C and D, herpes simplex, HIV, HTLV, neisseria, streptococcus and treponema. In total almost 600 kits are described in detail. Further parts of the Directory deal with respiratory infections (Part 2) and enteric and other infections (Part 3).
Download or read book Immunodiagnostics written by R. Edwards and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 1999-11-25 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Immunodiagnostic tests are analytical methods that use antibodies as reagents whose results are used to aid diagnosis and are widely used in many scientific disciplines and in many different ways. Perhaps the most widespread and obvious use is in clinical applications, but immunodiagnostic tests are also used in other fields such as forensic science and environmental and food analysis. The different types of test range from simple manual methods to fully automated systems with sophisticated integrated detection. Immunodiagnostics: A Practical Approach starts off by explaining the principles and development of immunodiagnostic tests, specifically the use of radioisotopes as tracers. Chapter 2 explains the use of solid-phase supports to bind immunoreagents. Enzymes are widely used as labels in immunoassays and their use with colourimetric, fluorimetric, and chemiluminescent detection systems is described. The use of enzymes as labels reflects the move away from radioisotopes and one of the most powerful non- radioisotpoc prodcedures is the time-resolved fluorescence assay. Enzymes can also be used as a simple method of obtaining high performance from immunodiagnostics and this application is covered later in the book. The next set of techniques to be described are light scattering techniques, which can be used in either simple manual assays or in sophisticated automated procedures. The penultimate chapter describes the principles of automation of immunodiagnostic tests. The last topic to be discussed is that of quality assurance.

Download or read book Immunoassays written by James Gosling and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1994-11-03 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a conicise, practical guide to the technical and clinical aspects of immunoassays, a group of tests that take advantage of the antigen-antibody response to achieve diagnosis. The authors have consolidated in one text information that has been scattered throughout larger books on clinical chemistry. Intended for general pathologists and clinical chemists who perform these assays, Drs. Gosling and Basso and their contributors have combined their individual areas of expertise to provide a reference that explains the technical aspects of assays as well as the applications for these tests within the various medical specialities.
