Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 3 in The House of Grey Series Fantasy, friendship, and fate await you in Collin Earl’s The House of Grey, based on the popular audio fiction by the same name. 14-year-old Monson Grey faces the same challenges that any freshman high school kid would: difficult classes, weird teachers, food fights…girls. Except, Monson Grey is not Monson Grey. At least, when he looks at himself in the mirror, the scarred face staring back is not someone he recognizes. Now he finds himself attending an extraordinary school, the recipient of an incredible scholarship, among ridiculously rich classmates, all with no memory of how he got there or what to expect. All he has from his former life are the flashes of haunting images that plague his dreams and the echoing voices that he hears, but cannot see. Luckily, Monson finds fast friendship in two of his classmates, Casey and Artorius. Little does Monson know, they too carry their own skeletons. Yet, as bizarre events start to unfold around them, Monson wonders what secrets lay buried in his mind or if he will ever be able to share his true fears with his newfound friends. Join our three heroes as they roam the halls of the most prestigious high school in the country, finding love, mystery, and answers to their algebra homework- all while peeling away the layers of Monson’s shadowy past. Author’s Note: The House of Grey was originally a serialized audio fiction. The Volume system begins the written adaptation of that story. Individual volumes do not contain the complete story. The Volumes contain 50,000 to 70,000 word chucks and are divided into ARCS. (ARC ONE, the Coren University Arc, consists of Volumes 1 through 6 and corresponds to the original podcast fiction) Each ARC will be available for a reduced price in an omnibus format. Original material for the continuation of the story starts in Volume 7

Since this was a time of extreme domestic political controversy and recurring crises with Mexico and Germany, the volume has no single theme. Mr. Link describes fully the negotiation of the House-Grey memorandum and European reaction to it; the armed ship controversy; the Sussex crisis; and the events that nearly led to war with Mexico in 1916. Materials found in German, British, and French archives and manuscript collections are used, as well as from American sources. Originally published in 1964. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.

Book excerpt: First published in 1987, Charles II argues that the conditions affecting government and political activity changed constantly through the reign creating new situations and new sets of problems for the restored monarch and his servants. Charles and his ministers found themselves under almost constant pressures from the parliament, the Church, foreign states and organized public opinion that differed essentially from those encountered by previous rulers. These pressures proved to be the most important influence on Charles, making him concentrate almost entire on short-term tactics and eventually engage in complex manoeuvring to outwit the leaders of the first two political parties, the Whigs and his own Tory auxiliaries. The conditions affecting government differed sharply from one phase of Charles’ reign to another. Professor Jones charts the attitudes and the extent of Charles’ involvement in administration and politics from his exile through the Restoration, his relationships with Clarendon, Buckingham and Danby, the ‘Cabal’ of 1668-73, the mixed administration from 1679 and the contest with the Whigs to his personal rule during the last four years of his reign. This book will be of interest to students of history and literature.

Book excerpt: This two volume monograph about the region of Thy in the early Bronze Age provides a high resolution archaeological and ecological model of the organisation of landscape, settlements and households during the period 1500-1100 BC. Bordering the North Sea to the west, and the calmer waters of the Limfjord to the east, the region of Thy in Denmark experienced four centuries of intense economic and demographic expansion. By combining results from environmental and economic research (pollen and palaeo-botanical analyses) with intensive field surveys and excavations of farmsteads with exceptional preservation, it has been possible to open a window to the changes that transformed Bronze Age society and its environment during a few centuries of exceptional expansion and wealth consumption. The results from this interdisciplinary venture made it possible to link together the histories of local farmsteads with the wider regional and global history of the Bronze Age in North-western Europe during this period. Here is much to feed on for students and researchers of the Bronze Age alike.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Charles II was restored to the rule of England, Scotland and Ireland in 1660, less than twelve years after the execution of his father, Charles I, and the ensuing republican experiment in government. Popular at first, the Restoration nevertheless failed to provide lasting settlement in any of the British kingdoms. Restoration and Revolution in Britain examines the political history of these kingdoms, from the Interregnum through Britain's eighteenth-century rise to power. Written especially for students approaching the Restoration for the first time, this essential introduction: - Assesses the reasons for the failure of settlement in the reigns of Charles and of his brother, James II - Integrates the histories of Charles's different realms - Examines the many connections between politics and Protestant religious disagreements - Provides helpful historical context for understanding a range of contemporary authors such as Bunyan, Locke and Milton - Concludes with an examination of the Glorious Revolution of 1688-89 and explains why settlement was finally achieved through revolution rather than through restoration

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Liberalism and Naval Strategy (1986) examines the role that liberalism played in shaping the naval strategy of the Pax Britannia. Liberalism was linked to commercial interest, and the devotion of the middle classes to peaceful commerce and their suspicion of force as government policy helped to inform critical choices. The traditional British naval strategy of the mercantilist era persisted into the early nineteenth century when the Royal Navy’s policing of the seas against piracy and the slave trade antagonized trade rivals, particularly America. By the 1850s, Britain granted immunity to neutral shipping – after much debate, with some of the century’s leading thinkers, including Mill and Marx, taking prominent parts in the naval controversies. This book examines these events, as well as the writings of contemporary naval strategists including the Colomb brothers. It also discusses the strategic posture of the Admiralty and its opponents before and during the war against Germany in 1914.

Book excerpt: This volume contributes to the current reassessment of the "Glorious Revolution" by bringing together the work of leading American, British, and Dutch scholars who present a series of interpretive case studies on a wide variety of political, economic, religious, and cultural issues. What emerges from these fifteen essays is the conviction that in spite of differing angles of approach, the process of reinterpreting the Revolution requires a combined study of English and Dutch history within the context of European history. The long tradition of viewing the events of 1688-89 as a uniquely British affair, which gave birth to liberal England with its contingent political and religious liberties, is finally put to rest.
