Book excerpt: Excerpt from Bi-Sexual Love: The Homosexual Neurosis The absence of formal systematic instruction in the Principles and Practice of Psychoanalysis in spite of the wide interest that the subject has de servedly aroused in our midst is highly regrettable, the more so since the lack of systematic instruction in our country deprives the Older practitioners as well as the oncoming generations of physicians of an opportunity to familiarize themselves with this most important branch of therapy. Even though the curriculum of instruction in our schools, and par ticularly in our medical colleges, is admittedly bur dened with a bewildering plethora of other branches of instruction, it is inconceivable that our colleges, our hospitals and psychiatric institutes, and our other institutions of higher learning will long con tinue to neglect a subject of such vital importance as psychotherapy and re - education, now that the subject has been placed, at last, upon a solid basisthrough the application of the psychobiotic and genetic methods of approach. But it will probably take considerable time before competent instruction to fill the need will be available. It appears therefore highly desirable that an English version of Dr. Stekel's works should make their appearance at this time. For in the absence of formal instruction his clinical studies form an excel lent substitute, perhaps the most suitable means available for post-graduate instruction in the clin ical aspects of Psychoanalysis. And should system atic courses be made available in the near future, in response to the urgent need, our instructors and students alike will undoubtedly find the Stekel series most valuable aids for study and guidance. My only hope is, that the subject may be as seriously con sidered as it deserves. Believing that a superabund ance of modesty has prevented facts from being duly presented to the profession, and thinking myself endowed with less of that desirable virtue than others, I can but conclude that my reputation will not suffer from reverses such as might ensue from elucidating theories, and maybe fancies, connected with such a delicate topic. But if professional minds are stimulated to a renewed study of these important phenomena, my highest anticipations. Book excerpt: It is the author's intention, and mine as his translator, to issue an English version of all the volumes in this comprehensive series. In addition to the subjects covered in the present volume and in the two volumes to follow shortly, the Disorders of the Instincts and the Emotions include the Anxiety States, Female Frigidity, Male Impotence, Infantilism (including Exhibitionism and Fetichism), the Compulsion Neuroses and Morbid Doubts. The range of the subjects and the plan of the volumes already published show that the series as conceived by the author forms a complete clinical account of the psychogenetic disorders, and represents the most recent development of scientific research. Since the genetic study of these parapathic maladies involves a thorough understanding of the facts of sexual life Dr. Stekel's works on the Disorders of the Instincts and the Emotions constitute incidentally the latest practical reference Handbook of Sexual Science in the light of our newer knowledge and should prove also on that score of inestimable value to the medical and the allied learned professions. The absence of formal systematic instruction in the Principles and Practice of Psychoanalysis in spite of the wide interest that the subject has deservedly aroused in our midst is highly regrettable, the more so since the lack of systematic instruction in our country deprives the older practitioners as well as the oncoming generations of physicians of an opportunity to familiarize themselves with this most important branch of therapy. Even though the curriculum of instruction in our schools, and particularly in our medical colleges, is admittedly burdened with a bewildering plethora of other branches of instruction, it is inconceivable that our colleges, our hospitals and psychiatric institutes, and our other institutions of higher learning will long continue to neglect a subject of such vital importance as psychotherapy and re-education, now that the subject has been placed, at last, upon a solid basis through the application of the psychobiotic and genetic methods of approach. And should systematic courses be made available in the near future, in response to the urgent need, our instructors and students alike will undoubtedly find the Stekel series most valuable aids for study and guidance. In a letter received from Dr. Stekel while this work was going through the press he states that a new edition of Onanie und Homosexualität is being issued in the original, bearing a dedication to the present translator.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Robert Langs collects the most important and creative work ever published on how to do psychotherapy and psychoanalysis in Classics in Psychoanalytic Technique. Practioners should base their studies upon. This revised edition builds upon his previous volume of works, The Therapeutic Interaction, as well as extended the critiques that were included in the earlier book. The book is grouped into subject matters, and then arranged chronologically within each category, so as to provide a sense of growth in psychoanalytic thinking. Beginning with Freud's intrapsychic foundation and oedipal emphasis and spanning all the way to recent contributions. Included are the works of Winncott, the Kleinians, and Greenson, just to name a few. Dr. Langs concludes the volume with a paper of his own addressing the question of the whether the writings constitute a solid foundation or a façade. In any field growth and change are important, yet one can never forget their humble beginnings. Which is why Classics in Psychoanalytic Technique is a tribute to those who struggled to advance the field of psychoanalysis.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Homosexuality, the hot-button issue of the millennium, is boldly and honestly discussed in this new book by Christian author and ex-gay activist Anthony Falzarano. Mr. Falzarano spent 9 years in the gay lifestyle, and discusses in detail how God delivered him out of it. Anthony does not believe that anyone is born gay. While looking for answers in regards to his own struggle, he began to uncover a plethora of lies and deception that the well-funded pro-gay lobbyists organizations had planted in the media. This book blows the roof off the political gay agenda in America, but in a kind but poignant way. Falzarano does not believe that homosexuals have a choice in their initial orientation (because it is inflicted upon the child early in life). However, believes that the homosexual struggler has the power from God to reject this false-identity and choose not to be gay. He emphasizes that patience and compassion be extended to the struggler, but grieves over the politically motivated gay lobbyists that are affirming millions of young people into the lifestyle through its lies. Mr. Falzarano is considered to be an expert on homosexuality and since 1988 has devoted his life's work to the ex-gay movement. Anthony has ministered to over 600 former homosexuals and their families; since founding Parents and Friends Ministries (PFM), which is located in West Palm Beach, FL. The PFM website can be found at parentsandfriends.20m.com. He is used as a subject matter expert by nationally known media such as CBS, CNBC, BBC, NET, Salem Broadcasting, The Washington Post, The Washington Times, Newsweek Magazine, C-Span and USA Radio Network. He has addressed different family protection organizations such as Concerned Women for America, Family Research Council and Focus on the Family. He has appeared on nationally syndicated programs such as Geraldo, The 700 Club, Armstrong Williams, Politically Incorrect, Ricki Lake, The Sally Jesse Raphael Show, and Roseanne.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do the conventional insights of depth psychology have anything to offer the gay patient? Can contemporary psychoanalytic theory be used to make sense of gay identities in ways that are helpful rather than hurtful, respectful rather than retraumatizing? In Psychoanalytic Therapy and the Gay Man Jack Drescher addresses these very questions as he outlines a therapeutic approach to issues of sexual identity that is informed by traditional therapeutic goals (such as psychological integration and more authentic living) while still respecting, even honoring, variations in sexual orientation. Drescher's exploration of the subjectivities of gay men in psychoanalytic psychotherapy is more than a long-overdue corrective to the inadequate and often pathologizing tomes of traditional psychoanalytic writers. It is a vitally human testament to the richly varied inner experiences of gay men. Drescher does not assume that sexual orientation is the entire or even major focus of intensive psychotherapy. But he does argue, passionately and convincingly, that issues of sexual identity - which encompass a spectrum of possibilities for any gay man - must be addressed in an atmosphere of honest encounter that allows not only for exploration of conflict and dissociation but also for restitutive confirmation of the patient's right to be himself. Through its abundance of first-person testimony from both clinical and literary sources, Psychoanalytic Therapy and the Gay Man provides the reader with an unforgettable grasp of what it is like to discover that one is gay in our society and then to find the courage and humanity to live with that knowledge. Any mental health professional - regardless of his or her sexual orientation - who wishes to deal therapeutically with gay men will find Drescher's work indispensable. But it will also be compelling reading for anyone seeking psychological insight into gay men's lives and concerns.
