Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Holy Thorn of Glastonbury is the stuff that legends are made of. Stories grow on it like fruit and wrap around it like creepers. It’s a shape-shifter. It’s been Catholic, Protestant, Pagan, universal. It’s succoured royalty, loyalty, defiance and subversion. It’s been condemned as patriarchal and revered as a feminine spirit. It’s been harnessed by imperialists and peacemakers and nationalists and universalists. It’s stood for better times and better days. For Christmas cheer and better nature, for all trees and all nature, for peace and for hope. This book is the biography of a symbol. “surely the definitive work on its beloved and important subject” Ronald Hutton "permanently changes our understanding of the mutable mythos without undermining our heart-felt connection to it" Paul Weston "a gem of historical writing" Maria Nita, Material Religion "a coherent and gripping narrative" Charles Watkins, Journal of Historical Geography "If you care about Glastonbury's history, and the origins of its legends, you need this book" Yuri Leitch "utterly accessible, written with flow and humour, zest and zeal" Johanna van Fessem, Glastonbury Oracle "a fusion of critical acumen and human sympathy" Jeremy Harte, Fortean Times "an amazing story unfolds from a hugely impressive mass of sources" Robert Dunning, The Local Historian Adam Stout is a writer and historian, and has been a Visiting Research Fellow at the Universities of Wales, Leicester, Exeter and Southampton. He has written and lectured widely on the idea of Glastonbury.

Book excerpt: Holy Grail and Holy Thorn: Glastonbury in the English Imagination explores the legends of King Arthur and Joseph of Arimathea at Glastonbury and how their influence has been felt from medieval to modern times. Joseph was said to have built at Glastonbury the first church in Christendom, which made it a centre of medieval pilgrimage, and gave Glastonbury an international profile in the fifteenth century. Through the winter-flowering holy thorn, said to have grown from Joseph’s staff, and later the Chalice Well, Glastonbury remained a focus of superstition in the Protestant centuries. In medieval romance Joseph of Arimathea had been the first keeper of the Holy Grail, a mystical past that was revived by Romantic writers and artists and ensured that Glastonbury retained a place in our national culture. In the twentieth century Glastonbury’s reputation was further elaborated by the belief that Joseph was the great-uncle of Jesus Christ, and that when he first came to Britain he brought the young Jesus with him, an idea suggested by William Blake’s Jerusalem. In the same mystical tradition, in the 1960s John Michell saw in Glastonbury the dimensions of New Jerusalem, which proved crucial in making Glastonbury the capital of New Age culture.

Book excerpt: Glastonbury, with the distinctive landmark of the Tor, is a familiar name to many. Its fame lies not simply in its renowned festival, but in its legendary associations with King Arthur and with Joseph of Arimathea, whose staff was supposed to have grown into Glastonbury Tor. Philip Rahtz has excavated extensively in and around Glastonbury, and disentangles the myths from the truths, giving a comprehensive survey of this remarkable place from the earliest times to the present day.

Book excerpt: What happens when a former Zen Buddhist monk and his feminist wife experience an apparition of the Virgin Mary? “This book could not have come at a more auspicious time, and the message is mystical perfection, not to mention a courageous one. I adore this book.”—Caroline Myss, author of Anatomy of the Spirit Before a vision of a mysterious “Lady” invited Clark Strand and Perdita Finn to pray the rosary, they were not only uninterested in becoming Catholic but finished with institutional religion altogether. Their main spiritual concerns were the fate of the planet and the future of their children and grandchildren in an age of ecological collapse. But this Lady barely even referred to the Church and its proscriptions. Instead, she spoke of the miraculous power of the rosary to transform lives and heal the planet, and revealed the secrets she had hidden within the rosary’s prayers and mysteries—secrets of a past age when forests were the only cathedrals and people wove rose garlands for a Mother whose loving presence was as close as the ground beneath their feet. She told Strand and Finn: The rosary is My body, and My body is the body of the world. Your body is one with that body. What cause could there be for fear? Weaving together their own remarkable story of how they came to the rosary, their discoveries about the eco-feminist wisdom at the heart of this ancient devotion, and the life-changing revelations of the Lady herself, the authors reveal an ancestral path—available to everyone, religious or not—that returns us to the powerful healing rhythms of the natural world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Puramore is a science fiction novel that presents a utopian view of the future for mankind. The plot setting takes place between the latter part of the 20th century and the middle part of the 21st. The main character is a British Army general who is assigned by beings from another universe to bring about apotheosis for mankind after defeating its mortal and immortal enemy. * * * Mankind has only two choices after science and technology renders the species utterly obsolete and incapable of survival in the future. One choice compels humanity to submit body and soul to a sinister supernatural civilisation, whilst the other impels mankind to submit to a utopian bioengineering paradigm. The first choice results in extinction of the singularity of the human soul, whilst the second choice leaves it infinitely free and self-determined. General Sir George Smythe, Team Alpha, Nagual sorcerer and quantum computer battle Wingtip and spirit forces at his command to turn the tide of mankind´s survival dilemma decidedly in their favour. In order to prevail against their mortal and immortal foe, they must marshal all the genius and intellectual resources at their disposal to overcome Wingtip´s spiritual advantage. Time is of the essence since their foe is on the brink of delivering the final coup d´état to mankind. The Divine Blade, can be wielded only for the thirteenth and last time. And only a paragon of mankind is fit to wield the Puramore to defeat the mortal and immortal enemy and lead mankind to apotheosis. Failure is not an option for George Smythe, nor for mankind, whether or not he proves himself worthy to wield Puramore. *** If you enjoyed Dan Brown´s "The Lost Symbol", you´ll enjoy discovering the mystic secret of the Puramore talisman.
