Book excerpt: When I watch ITU and Ironman triathlons on television and the Internet, I rarely see any black people, and never do I see a black triathlete pro or age group winner. And being a national champion swimmer and generally a competitive athlete, it bothers me. How can I or a ten-year-old black kid visualize being the champion if there's never been a visual before? Well, I just can't settle for that. So this year I'm on a quest to become the first ever TriBlackAlete to win a USAT age group national championship. And with a good Ironman performance in South Africa, maybe I can provide the missing "visual." That would be something.

Surprisingly, few resources have attempted to explain both the science behind the HIIT movement and its sport-specific application to athlete training. That’s why Science and Application of High-Intensity Interval Training is a must-have resource for sport coaches, strength and conditioning professionals, personal trainers, and exercise physiologists, as well as for researchers and sport scientists who study high-intensity interval training.

Book excerpt: While flicking through some photographs of a holiday in the Caribbean in 2009 Craig Jordan was appalled by what he saw, an overweight out of shape middle aged man on a very slippery slope. Craig decided there and then on a campaign to get Fit for Fifty and this became his mantra but the question was which sport? Over the next few months he was a regular visitor in the gym and went out and bought a mountain bike but nothing seemed to inspire and getting the journey to get fit seemed destined to fail. On a whim Craig entered a local triathlon and from that moment was hooked on the sport that over the next year took him on an incredible journey across 3 continents, 16 countries meeting and training with the stars of the sport and in the process getting in better shape than he has ever been at any point in his life. An inspiration not only to triathletes but for anyone who believes age is a roadblock to ultimate fitness.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The novel alludes to the role on her personal life played by the unprecedented bloodshed in the entire human history during the exodus of people from the newly created Pakistan to India, which was the result of the tragic partition of the country that accompanied independence from the British rule in August 1947. India's non-violent freedom-struggle led by Mahatma Gandhi brought to the forefront many great national leaders. Among them, Sardar Patel, hailing from the state of Gujarat and free India's first Home Minister, was aptly called the 'Iron-Man of India' - he is credited for a courageous and tactful unification of 565 princely states into the new Indian Republic. Narendra Modi, the present-day Chief Minister of Gujarat, is depicted in this novel as kind of a reincarnation of Patel, as he conducts a campaign as one of the prime ministerial candidate for the national election to be held in 2014. Modi lays bare the British-style divide-and-rule policy, vote-bank policy, and many other scandals of corruption under the presently ruling Congress Party. This novel tells the story of Kamala enmeshed with the story of the nation at large in a fast-moving tempo and is likely to become a unique literary creation of its kind. the writer has authored twenty books, and this novel is an extension of his earlier fiction called the Next Life, published in United States about a year ago. Naturally, many political episodes and undercurrents touching upon a number of other countries - United States, Italy, Pakistan, Afghanistan, China, Russia - come to light. Thus, this novel is not only the recount of the struggle of an individual to win over odds of life and of her transformation, it is also a succinct record of the true happenings in India of yore as well as of India of today, intertwined in an absorbing tale of fiction and reality. Readers in India as well as elsewhere will find this story intriguing, moving, entertaining, and even inspiring.
