This book was released on 2003 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper reviews a variety of research studies of worker exposure in forestry & agriculture, as well as some observations of homeowners & lawn care workers, in order to consider the exposure of forest workers to herbicides. It first summarizes general approaches to the assessment of worker exposure to herbicides, then discusses research on such matters as absorption of herbicides through skin contact, protective measures, urinary excretion of herbicide after exposure, variations in exposure when using different types of applicator equipment, contact with treated vegetation as a source of herbicide exposure, and exposure following burning of treated vegetation. The final section makes suggestions toward developing exposure standards for forest workers.

Download or read book Toxicology and Potential Health Risk of Chemicals that May be Encountered by Workers Using Forest Vegetation Management Options. Part IV, Risk to Workers Using Glyphosate Formulations written by Frank N. Dost and published by [Victoria] Forest Practices Branch, BC Ministry of Forests. This book was released on 2003 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Glyphosate, as the isopropylamine (IPA) salt, is the active herbicide in formulations registered for forestry uses in Canada. This paper reviews research reported in the literature concerning the toxicology of glyphosate and evaluates the risks to forest workers associated with exposure to glyphosate formulations. It first summarizes what is known about the behaviour of glyphosate in the body (adsorption, metabolism, storage, excretion) and the general toxicology of glyphosate. It then examines the herbicide's dermal & eye toxicity, reproductive & developmental toxicity, genetic toxicity, and carcinogenic potential; the toxicology & behaviour of the surfactant used in the Vision[TM] formulation and the toxicology of that formulation; studies of forest worker exposure to glyphosate; and suicide attempts using glyphosate. The final section assesses risk to workers who apply Vision or who enter treated areas. Includes glossary.

Book Synopsis Toxicology and Potential Health Risk of Chemicals that May be Encountered by Workers Using Forest Vegetation Management Options. Part III, Risk to Workers Using 2, 4-D Formulations by : Frank N. Dost
Download or read book Toxicology and Potential Health Risk of Chemicals that May be Encountered by Workers Using Forest Vegetation Management Options. Part III, Risk to Workers Using 2, 4-D Formulations written by Frank N. Dost and published by [Victoria] Forest Practices Branch, BC Ministry of Forests. This book was released on 2003 with total page 45 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2,4-D was first registered in 1947 as a broadleaf herbicide for use in all facets of vegetation management. Wide use of this herbicide has led to considerable research on the toxicology of 2,4-D formulations. This paper reviews research reported in the literature concerning the toxicology of 2,4-D and evaluates the risks to forest workers associated with exposure to 2,4-D formulations. It first summarizes the forms of 2,4-D used in commercial products and what is known about the behaviour of 2,4-D in the body (adsorption, metabolism, excretion). It then examines the herbicide's systemic toxicity (including human intoxication, general systemic effects, neurological effects, & effects on immune response), reproductive & developmental effects, mutagenic effects, and genetic toxicity & related cellular effects. The final section assesses the carcinogenic potential of 2,4-D, including discussion of the findings of several expert panels assembled to examine the experimental & epidemiological data. Selected epidemiological findings are also discussed specifically to illustrate the difficulties in deriving meaningful conclusions from these studies. Includes glossary.

Book Synopsis Veterans and Agent Orange by : Committee to Review the Health Effects in Vietnam Veterans of Exposure to Herbicides
Download or read book Veterans and Agent Orange written by Committee to Review the Health Effects in Vietnam Veterans of Exposure to Herbicides and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1994-01-15 with total page 791 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have U.S. military personnel experienced health problems from being exposed to Agent Orange, its dioxin contaminants, and other herbicides used in Vietnam? This definitive volume summarizes the strength of the evidence associating exposure during Vietnam service with cancer and other health effects and presents conclusions from an expert panel. Veterans and Agent Orange provides a historical review of the issue, examines studies of populations, in addition to Vietnam veterans, environmentally and occupationally exposed to herbicides and dioxin, and discusses problems in study methodology. The core of the book presents What is known about the toxicology of the herbicides used in greatest quantities in Vietnam. What is known about assessing exposure to herbicides and dioxin. What can be determined from the wide range of epidemiological studies conducted by different authorities. What is known about the relationship between exposure to herbicides and dioxin, and cancer, reproductive effects, neurobehavioral disorders, and other health effects. The book describes research areas of continuing concern and offers recommendations for further research on the health effects of Agent Orange exposure among Vietnam veterans. This volume will be critically important to both policymakers and physicians in the federal government, Vietnam veterans and their families, veterans organizations, researchers, and health professionals.
