Book Synopsis The Hatfield Memorial Lectures by : P R Beeley
Download or read book The Hatfield Memorial Lectures written by P R Beeley and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2005-10-31 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the third volume in a series which brings together a selection of the currently available lectures based on broad subject groupings. It focuses on two themes: process metallurgy, including the technical aspects of plant design and operation, and the organisation of the iron and steel industry, including its general structure and economic circumstances.Whilst there is occasional overlap with the themes of Volume 1 (materials properties/behaviour and materials applications) and Volume 2 (metallography and the structure of iron and steels), the current volume compliments the earlier ones and completes the original concept of five themes to bring the anthology up to the present day.

It focuses on two themes: process metallurgy, including the technical aspects of plant design and operation, and the organization of the iron and steel industry, including its general structure and economic circumstances. The lectures are arranged in date sequence within each group, providing a snapshot of the respective subject areas over the whole period. These topics have a significance in the fields of materials and across diverse branches of engineering.

Book Synopsis Duplex Stainless Steels by : Iris Alvarez-Armas
Download or read book Duplex Stainless Steels written by Iris Alvarez-Armas and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-01-16 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Duplex Stainless Steels (DSSs) are chromium-nickel-molybdenum-iron alloys that are usually in proportions optimized for equalizing the volume fractions of austenite and ferrite. Due to their ferritic-austenitic microstructure, they possess a higher mechanical strength and a better corrosion resistance than standard austenitic steels. This type of steel is now increasing its application and market field due to its very good properties and relatively low cost. This book is a review of the most recent progress achieved in the last 10 years on microstructure, corrosion resistance and mechanical strength properties, as well as applications, due to the development of new grades. Special attention will be given to fatigue and fracture behavior and to proposed models to account for mechanical behavior. Each subject will be developed in chapters written by experts recognized around the international industrial and scientific communities. The use of duplex stainless steels has grown rapidly in the last 10 years, particularly in the oil and gas industry, chemical tankers, pulp and paper as well as the chemical industry. In all these examples, topics like welding, corrosion resistance and mechanical strength properties (mainly in the fatigue domain) are crucial. Therefore, the update of welding and corrosion properties and the introduction of topics like texture effects, fatigue and fracture strength properties, and mechanical behavior modeling give this book specific focus and character.

Book Synopsis Advances in Manufacturing Engineering and Materials II by : Sergej Hloch
Download or read book Advances in Manufacturing Engineering and Materials II written by Sergej Hloch and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-16 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reports on cutting-edge research and technologies in the field of advanced manufacturing and materials, with a special emphasis on unconventional machining process, rapid prototyping and biomaterials. It gathers contributions to the International Conference on Manufacturing Engineering and Materials (ICMEM 2020), which was originally planned in June 2020, but will actually take place in 2021, in Nový Smokovec, Slovakia, because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite the challenging times, submitted contributions were peer-reviewed, and upon a careful revision, included in this book, which covers advances that are expected to increase the industry’s competitiveness with regard to sustainable development and preservation of the environment and natural resources. Condition monitoring, industrial automation, and diverse fabrication processes such as welding, casting and molding, as well as tribology and bioengineering, are just a few of the topics discussed in the book’s wealth of authoritative contributions. A special emphasis is given to problems connected to climate change and solution manufacturer and engineers may adopt and develop to prevent and cope with them.
