Book excerpt: "Clare Allcard and her husband, Edward, have dared to live a life that armchair adventurers can only dream about. Here Clare tells the story of their adventures aboard the Regina Johanne, a rotting, worm-riddled, 69-foot Baltic Trader they discovered beached in Antigua." "Clare and Edward (a naval architect), their daughter Katy, and an ever-shifting crew spent twelve years on the Regina Johanne, working to replace rotten timbers, exterminating the worms that were devouring her hull, constructing a peculiar one-and-a-half poster bed in preparation for a cruise with Clare's parents, and patching the frayed sails by hand." "While repairing the boat, they sailed from Antigua to Nevis, England, France, Denmark, and other exotic ports. Clare's insightful writing both addresses her family's personal experiences on the Regina Johanne and includes useful information about the ports they visited, critical advice on the predominant sailing conditions in each area, and characteristics of the various foreign cultures they encountered. Sailors and nonsailors alike will be inspired by Clare's fascinating discussion of the family's nomadic lifestyle aboard the Regina Johanne."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. She decides to start writing a book about their love. She would make him bigger than life and no one would know what details were real. It would begin in the 60's, just prior to the sexual revolution. The book continues until she finishes their story. She does not know how to end it because, in actuality their story hasn't ended. She sends the book to a publisher and luckily is published. In the time they are not together, they have difficult lives and obstacles to overcome. She ends up in a bad marriage and he ends up on the front lines of Vietnam. They both have baggage placed on them by their fathers. She feels she must remain a virgin until she is married, and his dad told him not to buy a pair of shoes without trying them on because of his genital endowment. The book is well written and easy to love. It has a fantastic ending. It spans a lifetime in the two main characters, beginning at the young age of 19. There is also an encounter with a gypsy who said they could only be happy, in the sunshine, by the sea.

Book excerpt: From Clementine author Sara Pennypacker, this is a poignant middle-grade novel about two foster children who must find a way to work together in order to survive. Eleven-year-old Stella misses her (unreliable) mom, but she loves it at great-aunt Louise’s house. Louise lives on Cape Cod, where Stella hopes her mom will someday come and settle down. The only problem? Angel, the foster kid Louise has taken in. The two girls live together but there’s no way they’ll ever be friends. Then Louise suddenly passes away one morning—and Stella and Angel decide not to tell anyone. Now they have to depend on each other for survival. Now they are forced to trust each other with the biggest secret ever. With great empathy and humor, Sara Pennypacker tells the story of two very different girls who unexpectedly become each other’s true family.

Excerpt: "They were now rapidly approaching the city—the loud crash and din of which had somewhat subsided, owing to the inclemency of the weather and the lateness of the hour. The gipsy, who had not heard a word of the foregoing conversation—it having been carried on in a prudently-subdued tone—had wrapped her coarse cloak closer around her, while the gaze of her devouring eyes grew more intense, as the lights of the city began to appear."
