Book excerpt: Book on Gujjars & Gujari Language, Gujri Language , Gojari Language, Gojri Language The Gujjars - Dr. Javaid Rahi-Volume 03 Gojri belongs to the central group of the Indo Aryan subfamily of Indo-European languages. Gojri (or Gojri) is spoken by the Gurjars (or Gujjars), traditionally nomadic pastoralists, who are scattered widely throughout the northern Subcontinent. While remaining an “oral society” in the classic sense, Gujjars in recent decades have begun attending school, organizing politically, and writing poetry and prose in their own language. Today, in part because of government sponsorship, the level of Gojri broadcasting and literary activity is higher than that for other minority languages in the region. To date, however, Gojri lacks an agreed-upon set of writing conventions. Writers and editors tend to write phonetically, and with wildly varying degrees of reference to the conventions of Urdu, the primary language of wider communication and the language of education in most communities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the intersection of caste and politics in North India and highlights its contribution to the anthropological study of democracy. It argues that the long-term process of internalization of democracy within the caste body has fundamentally changed the workings of the Indian party system. Drawing on an in-depth ethnographic case study of the Gujjars, a marginalized caste group in India, the book presents a systematic analysis of the political mobilization and culture of political participation of the Other Backward Classes to understand why and how certain caste groups have been more successful in politics than others. It discusses various key themes such as popular democracy and the politics of caste, regional politics and territoriality, myth, legends and heroes in the Gujjar community, the transition from lineage deities to caste deity, and the (re)formation of caste-community identity. It reveals the symbiotic relationships between religion and caste and shows how religion shapes contemporary caste. The book makes an important contribution to the study of marginalised groups and their politicization and fills a significant gap in the political sociology of India. It will be useful for scholars and researchers of sociology, history, exclusion studies, Dalit studies, political studies, history, social anthropology, and South Asian studies.

Book excerpt: This Study Is A Pioneer Endeavour On The History And Growth Of Tarai-Bhabhar, The Gujjar And Khatta Settlements And The Associated Problems Of Dairying, Their Main Source Of Livelihood. It Is Primarily Based Upon Extensive Field Study Which At Times Was Also At Personal Risk. Archival Material, Revenue Department Records And Records Of The Forest Department Have Been Used To Supplement It. The Work At The Moment Assumes Topical Importance Due To The Fact That The Terrorists Have Made Thick Forests Their Hideouts Where Khatta And Gujjar Settlements Are Also Located. The Presence Of The Timber Mafia While Causing Havoc With The Forest Wealth, That Of The Terrorists Has Caused A Social Turmoil. Even Though It May Be A Passing Phase, The Damage It Is Causing To The Fabric Lends An Urgence To It.
