Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At a time when businesses stare at unprecedented uncertainty, the SAIL turnaround story brings to us lessons of how companies can make miracles happen. Making the Elephant Dance talks about how the greatest business challenges can become the harbinger of the biggest corporate transformations, and how leadership can be the key influencer when companies face existential threats. The economic reforms of 1991 transformed the Indian steel industry overnight from the most controlled to most open. This book is a narrative of the steel mammoth, SAIL, which fought back an existential threat to emerge as a winner when a combination of domestic and global factors plunged the industry into its worst ever crisis. The book delineates its in-house strategies, implementation challenges and the actions undertaken to bring about an unprecedented organizational transformation by those who participated, experienced and lived it.

This book was released on 2015-03-30 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TERI Energy and Environment Data Diary and Yearbook (TEDDY) is an annual publication brought out by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) since 1986. It is the only comprehensive energy and environment yearbook in India which provides updated information on the energy supply sectors (coal and lignite, petroleum and natural gas, power, and renewable energy sources), energy demand sectors (agriculture, industry, transport, residential, and commercial sectors), and environment (local and global). It also provides a review of the government policies that have implications on energy and environment in India. Each edition of TEDDY contains India's commercial energy balances for the last four years that provide comprehensive information on energy flows within different sectors of the economy and how they have been changing over time. These energy balances and conversion factors are a valuable reference for researchers, scholars, and organizations working on energy and related sectors. After the introductory chapters, TEDDY has been divided into sections on energy supply, energy demand, and local and global environment. The twenty-ninth edition of the publication, TEDDY 2014/15, comes with several interesting features. The Green Focus at the end of each chapter highlights sustainable initiatives and successful practices. The publication also features a section with a discussion around sustainable development goals and tracking framework for sustainable energy goals at global, national, and sub-national levels. Graphs, maps, and tables have been used in all chapters to explain facts, which make the book an interesting read. In addition, detailed tables at the end of each chapter represent statistical data on energy and environment. The publication is accompanied by a complimentary CD containing full text. The publication is cited in international peer-reviewed journals and policy documents.
Book Synopsis Economics Social Institutions by : K. Brunner
Download or read book Economics Social Institutions written by K. Brunner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The productive work of widely distributed academic research has contributed substantially, over the postwar period, to important advances in our understanding. It has also offered a clearer recognition of many unresolved problems. Never theless, the progress achieved over the last decades, ex hibited by the systematic application of "theory" to actual issues and observable problems, could not overcome a per vasive sense of dissatisfaction. Some academic endeavors pursued within a traditional range of economic analysis have appeared increasingly remote from broad social issues, motivating the social and intellectual unrest experienced in recent years. Conditioned by the traditional use of economic analysis, many have naturally concluded that the "most relevant" social issues agitating our times are beyond the reach of economics. Purist advocates of a traditional view thus condemn any extension of economic analysis to social issues as an escape into "ideology". Others argue the need for an "interdisciplinary approach" involving sociology, social psychology, or anthropology as necessary strands in a useful understanding of social, institutional, and human problems of contemporary societies. We note here, in par ticular, the subtle attraction inherent in Marxian thought. It appears to offer a unified approach, with a coherent inter pretation, to all matters and aspects of human society, in cluding even nature.

Book Synopsis State Public Enterprise and Economic Development by : Kamesh Kumar
Download or read book State Public Enterprise and Economic Development written by Kamesh Kumar and published by Northern Book Centre. This book was released on 1994 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of public enterprises is not new. They have been assigned the role of harbinger of socialism in India in accordance with the Industrial Policy Resolution of 1956. They are treated as the catalysts of economic development and social upliftment of the people. For pretty a long time, public enterprises have been in dock and dottage on the ground that they have not been able to deliver goods as per our expectations. With a huge amount of investment in the central sector and the states' sector taken together, these enterprises have failed to generate a dependable surplus. Public sector is an amalgam of Central and State enterprises. In this book we have established that the state's enterprises' commitments are no less than central enterprises to fulfil the objectives and expectations with which, they were allotted the commanding height in our economy. A macro-level study of all types of State-level public undertakings has been done to judge the efficiency and effectiveness of these enterprises. This book is unique in the sense that it covers the syllabus of M.A., B.A. (Hons.) and B.A. (Pass) courses of all the universities of Bihar and special paper as `Public Enterprises' in other universities of India. In view of its multi-dimensional approach, the book would be of immense importance to general readers, students, academicians and researchers. Review ``The book deals with the economics of public enterprises with special reference to Bihar. The book is of special importance, particularly in the present context of redefining the role of public sector''. I Satya Sundaram, Southern Economist
