Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God raises up Methodists for such a time as this. Here is a ditty Len Sweet's Methodist grandfather used to sing: A Methodist, a Methodist will I be A Methodist will I die. I've been baptized in the Methodist way And I'll live on the Methodist side. What "genius" of Methodism inspired this kind of love and loyalty in the earlier years of the faith? What did it mean to live in "the Methodist way" and to die on "the Methodist side?" Perhaps it is time to resurrect a neo-Wesleyan identity and to challenge the prevailing "one-calorie Methodism" that characterizes so much of our tribe today. What makes a Methodist? How can we re-ignite the spark of genius that motivated such commitment in our cloud of witnesses? The essence of Methodism's genius resides in two famous Wesleyan mantras: "heart strangely warmed" (inward experiences with a fire in the heart) and "the world is our parish" (outward experiences with waterfalls of cutting-edge intelligence). For Wesley, internal combustion, the former, led to external combustion, the latter. In the 18th century, Methodists in general (and in their younger years, the Wesley brothers themselves) were accused of being too "sexy." What else could all those "love feasts" and "strangely warmed hearts" be about? Why else were all those women in positions of leadership? With this book the author hopes to bring back to life some of Methodism's sexiness so that our current reproduction crisis can be reversed.
Book Synopsis The Greatest Story Never Told by : Audrey Carr
Download or read book The Greatest Story Never Told written by Audrey Carr and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2013-12 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story of Jesus is well-known worldwide. But have you ever wondered if it is the true and complete story of the Savior? Could there be more to the Son of God? Author Audrey Carr addresses those questions in The Greatest Story Never Told: An Advanced Understanding of Christianity. She not only presents the real story of Jesus, in which he did not die on the cross, but also includes his unitary gospel of “oneness with God” that traditional Christianity has missed. Quoting from highly documented, scholarly works, this story of Jesus incorporates Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Taoism. With details and maps of his many years in India, Carr provides a photograph of his real tomb in Kashmir. Carr also offers information about meditation techniques he practiced, for Jesus was not a Christian but a Hindu-Buddha! “The Kingdom of Heaven” was his term for Enlightened Consciousness. Unlike other scholarly books, The Greatest Story Never Told is intended for the everyday person. Readers will come away with a new, meaningful, life-changing understanding of Jesus and his teachings. Carr seeks to destroy what is false and resuscitate the real truth, beyond all myths, and she reveals the connections between major religions. Spiritually uplifting and challenging, The Greatest Story Never Told is for anyone who is ready for an advanced understanding of Jesus and all the other God-men of the ages who have realized their divine identity.

Praise for The Jesus I Never Knew: "This is the best book about Jesus I have ever read, probably the best book about Jesus in the whole century. Yancey gently took away my blinders and blazed the trail through my own doubting fears, pious know-it-all, and critical balderdash until I saw the Savior anew and thought I heard him ask me, 'Now whom do you say that I am?' and I understood the question as I never had before." --Lewis B. Smedes, Senior Professor, Fuller Seminary "Philip Yancey takes the reader with him on his very personal journey to Jesus. In The Jesus I Never Knew, I became convinced that the Jesus I met--in some ways for the first time--has known me all along. This book is destined to become a favorite--to recommend to those still seeking Jesus and to pass along to those who've met him, but long to know him more." --Elisa Morgan, President Emerita, MOPS International

Book Synopsis ODE TO JESUS by : Edward Kenneth Watson
Download or read book ODE TO JESUS written by Edward Kenneth Watson and published by . This book was released on 2022-09 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ode to Jesus is the easiest way for you to learn the Scripture's real teachings about Jesus Christ. In mere seconds, you will know what it says about the most influential person in history. It does this by using hymns that benchmark true biblical doctrines in an easily remembered and understood way. For instance: God made the universe through Christ. Sire ordered; Son obeyed! This reality came to be - Father designed; Son made! Just like that, you now know a critical biblical teaching: God the Father had his Son, Jesus Christ, create this massive universe. Here is another: He humbled himself to be born. The great God became man! He emptied himself of glory. From divine to mere man! You now possess true biblical knowledge that makes it impossible for someone to deceive you. What you do with the knowledge is up to you. You can use it to believe the Bible's message and live a life of meaning and joy by becoming a person who loves God, loves your neighbor, loves yourself, and keeps God's commandments. Alternatively, you can restrict it to the intellectual satisfaction realm. But regardless of your choice, at least now, no one can fool you about what the Bible actually says about Jesus Christ. You owe it to yourself to know more about Jesus Christ. Even if you do not believe he is your Savior, he has improved your life in ways you cannot imagine. History has always been brutal and violent because our innate human nature values insiders more than outsiders (because you are human, you will always save the life of your young child over a stranger's). However, when Christians started applying Christ's moral teachings (empathetic morality, human dignity, and human equality) to national laws, they discovered something the world had never seen before: Natural Rights. Natural rights, such as your right to life, liberty, physical security, equality, and freedom of religion, are your most important rights. You have them just for being human. No government gave them to you; good governments recognize that you have them and respect them. They make you and your worst enemy equal. They make the weakest outsider equal to the most powerful insider. However, natural rights cannot exist without standing on Christ's moral teaching because nothing objective supports them. Remove the foundation, and the concept collapses, standards become arbitrary, and laws become changeable on the whim of whoever is in charge. Tyranny returns, resulting in calamity for the rest of us. Applying Christ's words also resulted in the modern Western world and its products. There is little doubt that the contemporary STEM world could have never existed if the Christian milieu had never existed. Most importantly of all, Jesus gave us the answer to living a life of meaning and happiness, regardless of the evil we experience: - LOVE GOD - LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR - LOVE YOURSELF - KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS What explains Jesus Christ and his outsized positive influence on humanity? Is he our God who became human flesh who then suffered and died for us? Or was he just a deluded preacher who got lucky?

Book Synopsis The Man Nobody Knows by : Bruce Barton
Download or read book The Man Nobody Knows written by Bruce Barton and published by . This book was released on 2021-03-21 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2021 Reprint of the 1925 Edition. The Man Nobody Knows is the second book by the American author and advertising executive Bruce Fairchild Barton. In it, Barton presents Jesus as "The Founder of Modern Business," in an effort to make the Christian story accessible to businessmen of the time. When published in 1925, the book topped the nonfiction bestseller list, and was one of the best-selling non-fiction books of the 20th century. Since its publication, The Man Nobody Knows has divided readers. Some welcome the portrayal of Jesus as a strong character, whom no one dared oppose, and praise the use of familiar stereotypes to stimulate interest in religion, whilst others ridicule the suggestion that Jesus was a salesman. Critics have suggested that The Man Nobody Knows is a prime example of the materialism and "glorified Rotarianism" of the Protestant churches in the 1920s.
Book Synopsis The Greatest Story Never Told by : Timothy J. Wright
Download or read book The Greatest Story Never Told written by Timothy J. Wright and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-10-05 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I like to tell stories about the Bible with my poetry. I have found it to be a good way for me to share my faith with others. One day when I was praying for a new poem to write, a thought entered my mind to write a poem telling the story of the whole Bible. The whole Bible? That cannot be God, so right away I dismissed that thought. But it kept coming back to me. Was that really Him? I would ask myself. Unable to get that thought out of my head, I started this journey that would last almost ten years with the hope that I could reach the hearts and minds of those who would never read God’s Word, but might read this book. This story will take the readers from Genesis to Revelation, and bring them face-to-face with the heart of God. And His love for us. It has been my most challenging book, but also my most rewarding and exciting! I began to tell this story at men’s rescue mission and my prison ministry. I could see that this story was landing in the hearts of those listening. It’s not my story; it’s His story: The Greatest Story Ever Told.
