Not only does this book deal with the pests of common globally produced crops it also addresses those of rarely dealt with crops such as seed spices, medicinal and aromatic plants. While the perspective of insect pests is largely Indian and South East Asian in context, the book does deal with globally problematic pests, particularly polyphagous ones. Not only will the readers be acquainted with the pests, their damaging potential and their life cycle but also with the latest methods of managements including ecofriendly measures being employed to keep pest populations at manageable levels. The 27 chapters in the book, are grouped into four sections primarily based on crop types, viz. pest of agricultural, horticultural and medicinal crops, and polyphagous pests, making the book easy to navigate. Download or read book Thrips: Their Biology, Ecology and Economic Importance written by Trevor Lewis and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main purpose of this book is to complement the hitherto largely descriptive works on the order Thysanoptera, by presenting thrips as living animals, stressing the behaviour of individuals and populations, their varied and complex relationships with plants, other animals and the physical components of their abundance in undisturbed and in cultivated habitats, and in cultivated economic importance as pests and beneficia. A considerable literature on thrips has accumulated over the last one hundred years. Unifortunately much of this information is fragmentary, scattered through obscure pamphlets, journales and accsesible only with difficulty.

Download or read book Grass Thrips in Perennial Grasses Grown for Seed written by Scott P. Schell and published by . This book was released on 2024 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grass thrips (Anaphothrips obscurus) are a widespread pest of both annual and perennial grass crops. These yellow-colored insects are slightly less than one- twentieth of an inch long as adults. Grass thrips (GT) can be found living in perennial grass fields all year long and are able to withstand temperatures far below freezing unharmed. GT are all females and reproduce asexually, giving them a high rate of reproduction. If a genetic mutation occurs in a GT that provides resistance to an insecticide’s mode of action, it can rapidly become predominant in a population.
