Book Synopsis Environmental Permits by : Donna Rona
Download or read book Environmental Permits written by Donna Rona and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental permits enable regulatory agencies to control the disturbance and degradation of the environment caused by man's activities. Created by governments through legislation, the permit processes are administered by elected officials. Environmental legislation is relatively new as an independent field of the law: the laws themselves are primarily a conglomeration of older legal doctrines from other fields of law, modified and adapted for particular situations (Landau and Rheingold 1971). Like other laws, environmental laws are meant to serve and protect the rights and well-being of the public. However, like other laws, they have created confusion, a proliferation of costly paperwork, and some inequities. Numerous statutes, dealing with most aspects of pollution, exist at every level of government-so many, in fact, that they frequently conflict and overlap. These statutes establish a public policy toward polluters. They also empower the regulatory bodies that issue permits. It would be impossible to compile a list of requirements for each type of permit. Therefore, this book will acquaint the reader with the common aspects of environmental permits: their terminology, components, and application processes. This book covers the permit process from initial agencies/applicant contacts through application parts and procedures, to application approval. Special emphasis has been placed on bringing together copies of laws and lists of agencies as appendices. The appendices give the reader easy access to materials that will help clarify the permit process.

Book Synopsis Law in Environmental Decision-making by : Tim Jewell
Download or read book Law in Environmental Decision-making written by Tim Jewell and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1998 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of essays adopts a distinctive approach to environmental legal issues. The contributors represent a variety of specialisations, ranging from public law to international law and international relations. Some essays are written from within a UK domestic law perspective, butothers adopt a broadly comparative, supra-national or international approach. The contributors do not assume that problems and solutions in 'environmental law' should be perceived as wholly distinct from the preoccupations of existing legal specialisms. New and proposed legal responses inevitably build on or employ established legal techniques, rather than startingcompletely afresh. The contributors do however, regard environmental problems as posing or at least illuminating significant challenges to received patterns of legal thought. In the light of this, the contributors therefore investigate aspects of law's influnce in environmental decision-making, andconsider whether legal institutions and forms of thought can respond adequately to the challenge of environmental change.

Download or read book Social Trust and the Management of Risk written by George Cvetkovich and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-12-16 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Social trust is a crucial issue to many aspects of modern society. Policy makers continually aspire to winning it and corporations frequently run the risk of losing it. The 'trust deficit' raises vital questions and problems to which until recently there have been few answers or solutions. Experts from both sides of the Atlantic explore the importance for trust of various influences, from individual perceptions to organizational systems, and consider the conditions involved in building or undermining trust. Several authors examine practical hazard management issues, including medical vaccination programmes and popular participation in pollution control and waste management as strategies for enhancing social trust. This book provides insightful analysis for researchers and students of environmental and social sciences and is essential reading for those engaged in risk management in both the public and private sectors.

Download or read book UK Environmental Policy in the 1990s written by Tim S. Gray and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-27 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The central controversy running through this book is whether Mrs Thatcher's famous 'green' speeches of 1988 marked a fundamental shift by the Conservative Government towards environmentalism, or whether they were merely political rhetoric, designed to rule out a temporary surge of popular support for the Green Party. The conclusion arrived at is mixed: in some policy areas a definite shift has occurred, but in others it is 'business as usual'. An overall change of gear is still awaited.
