Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When a woman becomes pregnant, miscarriage is usually the furthest thing from her mind. Such was the case for Jessalyn Hutto when she became pregnant with her first baby. But as is all too common in our post-fall world, the life she carried came to an abrupt end. Death had visited her womb, and the horrors of miscarriage had become a part of her life’s story. ••• Ultimately, she would lose two children in the womb, at 6 and 15 weeks gestation. Through these painful losses, a whole new world of suffering opened up to her. It seemed that everywhere she looked women were quietly mourning the loss of their unborn children. Yet this particular type of loss has been grossly overlooked by the church. ••• Couples navigating the unique sorrow of losing a child are often left with little biblical counsel to draw upon. Well-meaning friends and family often offer empty platitudes and Christian clichés. But what these couples truly need is the hope of the gospel. ••• Short, sensitive, and theologically robust, Inheritance of Tears offers hope and comfort to those who are called to walk through the painful trial of miscarriage, and shows pastors and church members how to effectively minister to these parents in their time of need.

Book Synopsis Life after Tragedy by : Michael W. Brierley
Download or read book Life after Tragedy written by Michael W. Brierley and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2018-01-01 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much has been written on the centenary of the First World War; however, no book has yet explored the tragedy of the conflict from a theological perspective. This book fills that gap. Taking their cue from the famous British army chaplain Geoffrey Studdert Kennedy, seven central essays--all by authors associated with the cathedral where Studdert Kennedy first preached to troops--examine aspects of faith that featured in the war, such as the notion of "home," poetry, theological doctrine, preaching, social reform, humanitarianism, and remembrance. Each essay applies its reflections to the life of faith today. The essays thus represent a highly original contribution to the history of the First World War in general and the work of Studdert Kennedy in particular; and they provide wider theological insight into how, in the contemporary world, life and tragedy, God and suffering, can be integrated. The book will accordingly be of considerable interest to historians, both of the war and of the church; to communities commemorating the war; and to all those who wrestle with current challenges to faith. A foreword by Studdert Kennedy's grandson and an afterword by the bishop of Magdeburg in Germany render this a volume of remarkable depth and worth.

Download or read book A Common Tragedy written by Kenneth Rahal and published by . This book was released on 2016-08-01 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Therefore, if a man cleanses himself from these things, he will be a vessel of honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work." 2 Timothy 2.21. In obedience to what God has spoken to my heart and from thoughts and circumstances He has applied to my life and some recent books that I have read, may I take those words, thoughts and circumstances and share them with you. With humility of mind, I pray that no Glory comes my way, but only to Him, who was on the cross. Writing A COMMON TRAGEDY has been a life-changing experience. I wrote it during the most challenging ten years of my life. I starting working on it when I thought I was too sick to begin anything in my life. But our Great and Loving God carried me through this unbelievable journey and Blessed me along the way with His undying Love and His Constant presence. On June 21, 2006 I was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer and was read a death sentence of 6 to 9 months to live. Even though I had been living a life as "A Convenient Christian," going to church and saying the odd prayer when I wasn't on the golf course, for some reason I had been ignoring the love that God was trying to show me through the years. The death sentence made me feel the need for God in my life. Little did I know the war was about to begin and so was my education in learning who our God really is and the depth of the love He has for me. This little book will share my next nine-and-a-half years during which I experienced a total of 9 surgeries, a pancreatic transplant, the cancer spreading to my liver, 3 cyber knife procedures, 23 endoscopies, and a total of 59 admissions to the hospital from 5 weeks to 7 days. On January 5th of this year I was declared "cancer free." To GOD be the GLORY for GREAT things HE has done.

Download or read book Clive written by Robert Harvey and published by Macmillan. This book was released on 2014-08-19 with total page 523 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The real-life story of Robert Clive would be judged as wildly implausible if it came from the pen of a novelist. Clive of India was one of the most extraordinary and colorful figures Britain ever produced. The founder of Britain's Indian empire, he was also Britain's first great guerrilla fighter by the age of twenty-seven, conqueror of Bengal at thirty-one, and avenging angel of righteousness against the greed of his own fellow-countrymen at forty-one. In his later life Parliament brought him under painful scrutiny and he ended up one of the most hated men in Britain. He died violently under still-mysterious circumstances just before his fiftieth birthday. The story of Clive can be viewed on several levels: as a spirited military adventure by a man who defied death many times, who withstood the greatest siege in British military history, and conspired to force one of the most absolute and cruellest monarchs on earth off his throne; as the morality tale of a penniless young man who became the sole ruler of a huge empire, ended up as one of the richest men in Britain and was then brought to account and driven to despair; or as the story of a plundering early poacher-turned-gamekeeper who sought to establish a moral and legal order amidst slaughter and greed. Clive today lies buried in an unknown grave in an obscure corner of rural Shropshire, a reflection of the controversy he aroused in his lifetime and that still surrounds his legacy and the manner of his death. In this lively and revealing study Robert Harvey illuminates Clive's life's journey from the green fields surrounding Market Drayton through his adventures in India, his drive to success and self-destruction, to his vicious and premature death, by suicide or murder.
