Book excerpt: Women's stories in India have been handed down from generation to generation, enriched and embroidered along the way. Political change and the arrival of print culture meant that storytelling was pushed into the background. But in more recent times, these voices have once again come centre-stage - confident, varied and complex. Spanning half a century, this collection covers many languages and cultures, and reflects the vast and complex cultures of the country and its diaspora. It offers a view of the changes that have taken place, both in terms of the subjects women choose to write about and their preferred way of writing about these subjects. From established names such as Mahashveta Devi to the newer generation of young authors, such as Tishani Doshi, Katha brings to the reader a vivid array of voices.

Download or read book Giantess Globalist Sperm War written by Mandy De Sandra and published by Only RX. This book was released on 2018-10-02 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A dirty bomb has been dropped and humanity is forever changed. The boys who didn't die stayed the same but the women grew into giantesses--walking gods as tall as the mountains. To remake a new and better world, all post-pubescent men were eaten and killed, and the remaining boys were rounded up to live in The Pen and learn to become better men. One of those boys, Tyson, waits on Eve Night--the night before the giantesses select who will be reborn through their womb. Men themselves are now sperm and each giantess selects ten of their favorite men to go inside her and compete to be the winner--reborn as a baby. Tyson wants the childhood that was taken away from him during World War III, but he must learn to work, fight, and help the 9 others if he wants to be a baby again. "De Sandra creates a world that plays with edible men, female anatomy, and misandry. This is the giantess fetish at its most lurid and comical, while quietly illustrating the poignant isolation of divided gender." Devora Gray, Author of Human Furniture and the Quest for the Perfect Woman

Book Synopsis Preserving the Spell by : Armando Maggi
Download or read book Preserving the Spell written by Armando Maggi and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2015-07-21 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fairy tales are supposed to be magical, surprising, and exhilarating, an enchanting counterpoint to everyday life that nonetheless helps us understand and deal with the anxieties of that life. Today, however, fairy tales are far from marvelous—in the hands of Hollywood, they have been stripped of their power, offering little but formulaic narratives and tame surprises. If we want to rediscover the power of fairy tales—as Armando Maggi thinks we should—we need to discover a new mythic lens, a new way of approaching and understanding, and thus re-creating, the transformative potential of these stories. In Preserving the Spell, Maggi argues that the first step is to understand the history of the various traditions of oral and written narrative that together created the fairy tales we know today. He begins his exploration with the ur-text of European fairy tales, Giambattista Basile’s The Tale of Tales, then traces its path through later Italian, French, English, and German traditions, with particular emphasis on the Grimm Brothers’ adaptations of the tales, which are included in the first-ever English translation in an appendix. Carrying his story into the twentieth century, Maggi mounts a powerful argument for freeing fairy tales from their bland contemporary forms, and reinvigorating our belief that we still can find new, powerfully transformative ways of telling these stories.
