One trends northwest-southeast, parallel to the pronounced structural grain of the area, whilst the second trends approximately east-west and truncates the northwest orientated shear zone. The shear zones display brittle-ductile deformation. Disseminated gold mineralization occurs in rhyolitic bodies hosted by the two shear zones and displays characteristics which are consistent with epithermal mineralization at shallow depth in a high sulphidation system. The mineralization is associated with much pyrite and massive silica. At least three generations of quartz veins, minor breccia pipes and vuggy dissolution cavities can be recognised. The genesis of the mineralization is probably related to the operation of a meteoric water convection cell set in motion by a magmatic heat engine. The greenstones of the Whisky Knob region have affinities with high-magnesium, calc-alkaline orogenic andesites. The greenstones are thought to represent an island arc constructed through the subduction of young hot lithosphere.

This book was released on 2013 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Beardmore-Geraldton greenstone belt is located along the boundary between the Wabigoon and Quetico subprovinces in the Superior province of the Canadian Shield. Historical gold mines and current gold exploration camps are located throughout the Beardmore-Geraldton greenstone belt and adjacent Wabigoon subprovince in moderately to steeply dipping ductile to brittle-ductile shear zones in many types of lithologies, with various metamorphic grades, and alteration styles. The shear zones typically strike eastwest along the boundary of the Beardmore-Geraldton greenstone belt with the Wabigoon subprovince to the north as well as along the boundary with the Quetico subprovince to the south. Field mapping and petrography, including microstructural analysis, were used to characterize the gold mineralization and investigate the control on gold mineralization in the Elmhirst, Castlewood, Pagwachuan, and Milestone properties in Greenstone, Ontario. Two property-scale and seven trench-scale maps were produced from field mapping and one hundred twenty-three transmitted and reflected light thin sections were prepared from samples collected from these properties. Lithology, structure, microstructure, metamorphic grade, alteration, and subprovince were considered as possible controlling factors on gold mineralization.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aristocratic Phil Meredith chooses to marry Violet, a working-class girl from London, which raises more than a few eyebrows. However, when Violet decides to throw a party for her friends at her new country residence, she is murdered, leaving the guests in a state of shock. The arrival of two detectives, Merrington and Caldew, sets the investigation in motion. This is swiftly followed by the arrival of America’s greatest private eye, Grant Colwyn. Will he be able to work with the two policemen, or will he rely on his own methods to solve the case? ‘The Hand in the Dark’ is packed with red herrings, twists, and turns, and is sure to have even the most dedicated armchair detective guessing until the last page. Born in Melbourne, Arthur J. Rees (1872 – 1942) was an Australian author and journalist. After a brief spell working for the ‘Melbourne Age’ newspaper, he acted as a reporter for the ‘New Zealand Herald,’ before becoming the editor of the ‘New Zealand Truth.’ During his twenties, Rees left for England, where he worked as a journalist for the ‘London Times.’ It was during this period that he began his literary career, with the publication of ‘The Merry Marauders.’ Rees made his mark as a writer of crime and mystery novels and was most notably praised by the English crime writer, Dorothy L. Sayers.

This book was released on 1839-01-01 with total page 1203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The following Journals were written at the close of many a laborious day, when the energies both of mind and body were almost exhausted by long-continued toil. The author trusts that this circumstance will account for, and palliate, some of the defects which may be discovered in his volumes. Conscious as he is of the deficiencies of his work, he nevertheless hopes that the reader will not pronounce it to be wholly devoid of interest. Though Australia calls up no historical recollections, no classical associations of ideas, it has other, and not less valid titles to our attention. It is a new and vast country, over the largest portion of which a veil of mystery still hangs; many of its productions vary in a singular manner, from those in other parts of the world; within the memory of man one British colony has risen there, in spite of adverse circumstances, to a high degree of prosperity; others have been founded, which promise to be equally successful; and it seems impossible to doubt that, at no distant period, the whole territory will be inhabited by a powerful people, speaking the English language, diffusing around them English civilisation and arts, and exercising a predominant influence over eastern Asia, and the numerous and extensive islands in that quarter of the globe. In his expeditions into the interior of Australia, the author was led cheerfully on, by an eager curiosity to examine a country which is yet in the same state as when it was formed by its Maker. With respect to the narrative of those expeditions, the sole merit which he claims is that of having faithfully described what he attentively observed; neither his pencil nor his pen has been allowed to pass the bounds of truth. There is however one branch of his subject on which justice and gratitude render it necessary for him to say something more. In those departments of natural history, to which he owns himself a stranger, he has received assistance of the utmost value from several distinguished persons. To the few plants which, after his unfortunate fellow traveller had sacrificed his life to the pursuit, the writer was able to collect, a permanent place in the botanic system has been given by Dr. Lindley. Much importance has been added to the work, by the researches and discoveries which Professor Owen has made, with regard to the fossil remains; and the few particulars gleaned relative to existing animals have enabled Mr. Ogilby to introduce several interesting novelties to the attention of zoologists. To these gentlemen, and also to Professor Faraday, Mr. MacLeay, and other scientific friends, the warmest acknowledgments of the writer are due, for whatever naturalists may deem worthy of praise in these pages.
