Book Synopsis Cratons and Fold Belts of India by : Ram Sharma
Download or read book Cratons and Fold Belts of India written by Ram Sharma and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-10-06 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cratons and Fold Belts of India, is a unique attempt at presenting geological characteristics and evolution of the fold belts and the cratonic areas of the Indian shield. The author has evaluated the different evolutionary models for each fold belt in light of all the currently available geological and geochronological informations that are clearly listed. Shortcomings, if any, of each model are stated and a viable geodynamic model is presented for each fold belt. The book is self-contained – it includes an introduction to the processes of mountain building, especially plate tectonics theory with its application to the evolution of the Himalaya as an illustrative example – so that the reader can better appreciate the novel approach to the evolution of Proterozoic fold belts. The author eschews a detailed account of the fold belts for a clear description of all the concepts that go into building models. It is primarily written for graduate students, teachers and for those geoscientists who aspire to know all about the Indian shield.

Book Synopsis Structural Geometry of Mobile Belts of the Indian Subcontinent by : Tapas Kumar Biswal
Download or read book Structural Geometry of Mobile Belts of the Indian Subcontinent written by Tapas Kumar Biswal and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-02-21 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book summarizes the latest research on the structural geology of the mobile belts of the Indian subcontinent including the Himalayas, NE Himalayas, Bangladesh thrust belt, Andaman subduction zone, the Aravalli‐Delhi, the Central India Tectonic Zone, the Singhbhum, the Eastern Ghats and the Southern granulite terrane. It offers essential information on deformational structures in the mobile belt, such as folding patterns, the character of the shear zone, shear strain analysis, and faults, as well as fault zone rocks. The findings presented here are based on field observations, mapping, sampling and analysis work (e.g. petrographic studies), as well as limited geochemical and geochronological analysis to support the findings. A discussion on the structural evolution of these mobile belts and their connections with other belts rounds out the coverage.
Book Synopsis Precambrian Basins of India by : R. Mazumder
Download or read book Precambrian Basins of India written by R. Mazumder and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2015-04-02 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Memoir provides a comprehensive review of the Precambrian basins of the four Archaean nuclei of India (Dharwar, Bastar, Singhbhum and Aravalli-Bundelkhand), encompassing descriptions of the time-space distribution of sedimentary-volcanic successions, the interrelationship between tectonics and sedimentation, and basin histories. Studies of 22 basins within the framework of an international basin classification scheme deepen an understanding of the basin architecture especially for cratonic basins. Most Indian sedimentary successions formed as cratonic to extensional-margin rift and thermal-sag basins, some reflecting mantle plume movement, subcrustal heating or far-field stress. This Memoir shows that Phanerozoic plate-tectonic and sequence stratigraphic principles can be applied to the Precambrian basins of large Archaean provinces. The differences between the stratigraphic architecture of the Indian Precambrian and examples of Phanerozoic basin-fill successions elsewhere are ascribed to variable rates and intensities of the controls on accommodation and sediment supply, and changes inherent in the evolution of the hydrosphere-atmosphere and biosphere systems.
Book Synopsis Geological Evolution of the Precambrian Indian Shield by : M.E.A. Mondal
Download or read book Geological Evolution of the Precambrian Indian Shield written by M.E.A. Mondal and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-05-26 with total page 753 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents findings from research into the Precambrian history of the Indian shield obtained using state-of-the-art technology. It demonstrates a paradigm shift towards studying the Precambrian shield regions using petrological, geochemical, structural, metallogenic, sedimentological and paleobiological data from the rocks in the Precambrian shield area, and presents a collection of contributions on these diverse topics that help to reconstruct the Precambrian evolution of the Indian Shield.

Book Synopsis Crustal Evolution and Metallogeny in India by : Sanjib Chandra Sarkar
Download or read book Crustal Evolution and Metallogeny in India written by Sanjib Chandra Sarkar and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-04-09 with total page 1137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Crustal evolution means the resultant changes that the Earth's crust has gone through in its geologic past affected by changes in the mantle-crust system, the atmosphere, the hydrosphere and the biosphere. Metallogeny is the genesis of metallic mineral deposits. Both the terms are used in the book in their conventional sense, but keeping in mind an Indian context. This book is the first of its kind to document in detail the nature, origin and evolution of mineral deposits in India and is contextualized in local, regional and global geology. The book is unique in that it combines both metallogeny and crustal evolution that were hitherto treated as stand-alone topics. The exhaustive chapters in the book carry detailed case studies of the distribution and occurrence of ores. The book would be useful to students of advanced geology, researchers, teachers, planners and global metallogeneticists around the world.

Book excerpt: Volume 3 of Reviews in Mineralogy provides an up-to-date review of the mineralogy and petrology of rock-forming opaque oxide minerals. It was the textbook for the short course on rock-forming oxide minerals sponsored by the Mineralogical Society of America at the Colorado School of Mines, November 5-7, 1976. The contributors hope that the work will be valuable not only to participants in the short course, but also to others desiring a modern review of the subject.
