Book excerpt: The Holy Spirit will not just tell you who to help, but how to do it. After reading this book, I will have the knowledge and understanding about the power of generosity from a biblical standpoint. No longer will I give in small doses out of fear or religiosity, but I will have full confidence that my God will take what I give and do exceedingly and abundantly more than I ever could have asked for or imagined with it. Unlock the secrets of biblical giving as Pastor Greg Locke explores the spiritual principles behind generosity and the incredible blessings that follow when God finds someone He can trust. Filled with real-life anecdotes, biblical wisdom, and practical insights, this book is a road map to accessing the abundance that flows from a generous spirit. It not only emphasizes the importance of blessing the poor but also shows how giving can be a weapon in spiritual warfare and help believers experience supernatural breakthrough. Exploring tithing, the principles of stewardship, and the law of sowing and reaping, The Generosity Journey reveals the keys to experiencing supernatural release and what it takes for Christians to be entrusted with more. According to Locke, nothing will change a believer’s life more than biblical giving. Generosity is the remedy for materialism and the ultimate game-changer for walking in the abundance and favor of God. In this book, readers will discover the joy of giving, the power of faith, and the extraordinary rewards that come when they align themselves with God's generous plan. The journey to a more fulfilling and blessed life starts here!

Book excerpt: What does the Bible really say about money? About wealth? How much does God expect you to give to others? How does wealth affect your friendships, marriage, and children? How much is “enough”? There’s a lot of bad information in our culture today about wealth―and the wealthy. Worse, there’s a growing backlash in America against our most successful citizens, but why? To many, wealth is seen as the natural result of hard work and wise money management. To others, wealth is viewed as the ultimate, inexcusable sin. This has left many godly men and women confused about what to do with the resources God’s put in their care. They were able to build wealth using God’s ways of handling money, but then they are left feeling guilty about it. Is this what God had in mind?

He knows it can build community and help bring social justice and peace to our troubled world. He has seen it in the most unlikely places, witnessing the freedom individuals have gained simply through acts of giving. He tells of Deborah, a mother in Rwanda whose son was murdered, but whose faith and courage brought her to a place of reconciliation with the killer. In another anecdote, he introduces us to a boy in Kosovo whose spontaneous generosity was a moving testament to the goodness of the human spirit. Throughout his journey, Toycen provides thoughtful answers to questions such as "What is generosity?" and "What motivates us to give?" An inspirational call to action, The Power of Generosity will strike a chord with all who want to fulfill a vital part of their humanity—the need to give.

Book excerpt: The general practices related to church funding aren’t producing the same results they have in the past. There is a general acceptance that something has changed but little talk or interest is coming from traditional church leader training sources such as denominational entities and seminaries. Pastors are largely left to their own devices to “figure this out.” They need a lifeline. While some churches are experiencing exponential growth, some churches - despite their best efforts - have been unsuccessful at moving beyond survival mode. Coupled with increased competition from other nonprofits and a decline in the commitment to give to the church first, churches risk losing the funding they need. A growing number of leaders are beginning to discover there is another way and are struggling to understand what makes one church generous and another not. There is a need in the market to offer a simple, working definition of “generosity” and reveal the “secrets” some church leaders seem to have simply stumbled upon which are resulting in unexplainable ministry growth and unprecedented church funding even in the midst of tough economic times. The content of this material was developed and refined by Jim Sheppard and Chris Willard through years of ministry leadership in the local church, consulting with church leaders across a broad spectrum of church settings, and through participation in and leadership of the Generous Church Leadership Community facilitated by Leadership Network. Of particular benefit will be the collection of observations and best practices gleaned during the Generous Church Leadership Community that originated within real-life church leadership situations and scenarios by highlighting specific challenges, methods, and successes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Philanthropy has grown into an industry unto itself, with both fashionable and aspirational aspects. Most philanthropists start out with good intentions. They have a deep desire to benefit society by supporting worthwhile organizations and ministries. But good intentions, no matter how honorable, can unintentionally cause great harm. Unless granting is done with great care and focus, the money disbursed can cause serious damage to the community, the organization or ministry, the final beneficiary and even the donor. Accidental Philanthropist details the hard lessons learned during Sacred Harvest Foundation's (SHF) fifteen-year history of striving to effectively steward its resources. The book tries to answer the question, "How can philanthropists enhance the impact of their grants, minimizing mistakes and maximize joy to the organization or ministry, its clients, and the donor?" Unlike many works on the subject, Accidental Philanthropist is not designed to be a "do as we do" book. Instead, it describes SHF's journey in hopes that it might stimulate the thinking of philanthropists of all sorts and inspire them to become more intentional in how, why and where they give.

Book excerpt: We all long to experience a sense of inner wholeness and guidance, but today's notions of healing and recovery too often keep us focused on our brokenness, on our deficiencies rather than our strengths. Wayne Muller's luminous new book gently guides us to the place where we are already perfect, already blessed with the wisdom we need to live a life of meaning, purpose and grace. He starts, as do so many spiritual teachers, with simple questions: Who am I? What do I love? How shall I live, knowing I will die? What is my gift to the family of the earth? He then takes us deeper, exploring each question through transformative true stories. We meet men and women--Wayne's neighbors, friends, patients--who have discovered love, courage, and kindness even in the midst of sorrow and loss. And through them we glimpse that relentless spark of spiritual magic that burns within each of us. Woven throughout are contemplations, daily practices, poems, and teachings from the great wisdom teachings. Page by page, we become more awake to the joy and mystery of this precious human life, and to the unique gifts every one of us has to offer the world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Before the 99% occupied Wall Street... Before the concept of social justice had impinged on the social conscience... Before the social safety net had even been conceived... By the turn of the 20th Century, the era of the robber barons, Andrew Carnegie (1835-1919) had already accumulated a staggeringly large fortune; he was one of the wealthiest people on the globe. He guaranteed his position as one of the wealthiest men ever when he sold his steel business to create the United States Steel Corporation. Following that sale, he spent his last 18 years, he gave away nearly 90% of his fortune to charities, foundations, and universities. His charitable efforts actually started far earlier. At the age of 33, he wrote a memo to himself, noting ..".The amassing of wealth is one of the worse species of idolatry. No idol more debasing than the worship of money." In 1881, he gave a library to his hometown of Dunfermline, Scotland. In 1889, he spelled out his belief that the rich should use their wealth to help enrich society, in an article called "The Gospel of Wealth" this book. Carnegie writes that the best way of dealing with wealth inequality is for the wealthy to redistribute their surplus means in a responsible and thoughtful manner, arguing that surplus wealth produces the greatest net benefit to society when it is administered carefully by the wealthy. He also argues against extravagance, irresponsible spending, or self-indulgence, instead promoting the administration of capital during one's lifetime toward the cause of reducing the stratification between the rich and poor. Though written more than a century ago, Carnegie's words still ring true today, urging a better, more equitable world through greater social consciousness.
