Book Synopsis Policy Coherence for Sustainable Development 2018 by : Collectif
Download or read book Policy Coherence for Sustainable Development 2018 written by Collectif and published by OECD. This book was released on 2018-05-28 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 2030 Agenda is a universal, collective responsibility that covers all levels: global, national and territorial. To address global policy challenges in a complex and interconnected world, policy coherence will be key. A more coherent multilateral system will be essential to reconcile and deliver the economic, social and environmental transformations needed to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 2018 edition of Policy Coherence for Sustainable Development shows how integrated and coherent policies, supported by strong institutional mechanisms, can contribute to the “Transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies” – the theme of the 2018 United Nations High-level Political Forum (HLPF). The report applies the institutional, analytical and monitoring elements of the “policy coherence for sustainable development” framework to identify challenges and opportunities facing governments as they move to implement the SDGs, both at the national level and collectively at the global level. The report suggests eight building blocks for enhancing policy coherence for sustainable development (SDG Target 17.14), and identifies emerging good institutional practices drawing on recent OECD work, country surveys and voluntary national reviews. It includes 19 country profiles and sets out options for tracking progress on policy coherence for sustainable development at the national level.

Book Synopsis Strategic Treaty Management by : Thomas F. McInerney
Download or read book Strategic Treaty Management written by Thomas F. McInerney and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2015-04-30 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While little recognized in international law scholarship, multilateral treaties in diverse fields have begun to apply strategic management techniques to make them more effective and responsive. This examination of those practices and their interplay with associated international organizations considers the application of strategic management across treaties' planning, financing, implementation, and evaluation activities. The study leads to a new appreciation of the intricacies of multilateral treaty activities and a better understanding of their operations within complex webs of networked international institutions. In considering different approaches to steering treaties through this dispersed global governance landscape, Thomas F. McInerney draws on current strategic management literature to explore the utility of nonlinear, emergent models of strategy and gain insights from strategy as practice research. While recognizing strategic management's potential value in facilitating more flexible applications of multilateral agreements, he also emphasizes the need to maintain their normativity as international legal obligations.

Book excerpt: Available online: https://pub.norden.org/temanord2022-513/ There is a great urgency to address biodiversity loss and chemicals and waste pollution. These global challenges are intertwined in many ways. Pollution is identified as one of the main drivers of biodiversity loss. Therefore, it is important to look at these challenges and solutions in a synergistic way in order to address them effectively. Efforts to date have mainly focused on cooperation and synergies within the same thematic cluster. This review looks at the opportunities that may exist for working across thematic clusters, specifically focusing on strengthening collaboration and coordination between biodiversity and chemicals and waste clusters. The review provides options for action that can help implementation in particular at the national level, but also at the regional and global levels through enhancement of collaboration between biodiversity and chemicals and waste clusters.

Download or read book CITES as a Tool for Sustainable Development written by Marie-Claire Cordonier Segger and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2023-07-31 with total page 575 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Saving endangered species presents a critical and increasingly pressing challenge for conservation and sustainability movements, and is also matter of survival and livelihoods for the world's poorest and vulnerable communities. In 1973, a global Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) was adopted to stem the extinction of many species. In 2015, as part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 15) the United Nations called for urgent action to protect endangered species and their natural habitats. This volume focuses on the legal implementation of CITES to achieve the global SDGs. Activating interdisciplinary analysis and case studies across jurisdictions, the contributors analyse the potential for CITES to promote more sustainable development, proposing international and national regulatory innovations for implementing CITES. They consider recent innovations and key intervention points along flora and fauna value chains, advancing coherent recommendations to strengthen CITES implementation, including through the regulation of trade in endangered species globally and locally.
