Book Synopsis Geopolitics of the World System by : Saul Bernard Cohen
Download or read book Geopolitics of the World System written by Saul Bernard Cohen and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2003 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cohen argues that the emergence of the United States as the world's sole superpower and the process of globalization have failed to remove the importance of geography as a political and strategic factor of great import. After laying out the structural basis for his theory of geopolitical theory, he launches into an examination of how geopolitical realities have developed since World War II, a period that witnessed greater change than the preceding two and a half centuries. He then turns his attention to the meat of the book, separate examinations of the each of the major world regions, including examinations of the important countries and their individual geopolitical realities.
Download or read book Skin Barrier written by Hans Schaefer and published by S. Karger AG (Switzerland). This book was released on 1996 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Skin Barrier is the first book to be written exclusively by researchers for researchers as a convenient desktop reference. It focuses on several key aspects of the skin barrier including composition and structure and a description of the properties governing the diffusion of compounds across the skin. Although there has been a large number of laboratories involved in measuring percutaneous absorption over the past 15 to 20 years, it is only recently that there has been a general consensus in the scientific community regarding the development of standard protocols. Recognizing the importance of this, the authors have included two chapters detailing the protocol used in measuring and predicting percutaneous absorption and a discussion on the practical application of these techniques to solve associated problems. In order to provide the researcher and especially the student with access to more detailed information, the book features a comprehensive listing of references published over the past 10 years. Skin Barrier is the only desktop reference for dermatologists, cosmetologists, biochemists, biologists, and those in the pharmaceutics industry, who need detailed and accurate information about the skin barrier on a daily basis. No R & D department should be without a copy.

Download or read book Skin Barrier Function written by T. Agner and published by Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2016-02-04 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although a very fragile structure, the skin barrier is probably one of the most important organs of the body. Inward/out it is responsible for body integrity and outward/in for keeping microbes, chemicals, and allergens from penetrating the skin. Since the role of barrier integrity in atopic dermatitis and the relationship to filaggrin mutations was discovered a decade ago, research focus has been on the skin barrier, and numerous new publications have become available. This book is an interdisciplinary update offering a wide range of information on the subject. It covers new basic research on skin markers, including results on filaggrin and on methods for the assessment of the barrier function. Biological variation and aspects of skin barrier function restoration are discussed as well. Further sections are dedicated to clinical implications of skin barrier integrity, factors influencing the penetration of the skin, influence of wet work, and guidance for prevention and saving the barrier. Distinguished researchers have contributed to this book, providing a comprehensive and thorough overview of the skin barrier function. Researchers in the field, dermatologists, occupational physicians, and related industry will find this publication an essential source of information.
Download or read book Ezekiel 38-48 written by Stephen L. Cook and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2018-01-01 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fresh interpretation of the final major sections of the Hebrew book of Ezekiel, chapters 38-48 Stephen L. Cook offers an accessible translation and interpretation of the final sections of Ezekiel. These chapters, the most challenging texts of scripture, describe the end-time assault of Gog of Magog on Israel and provide an incredible visionary tour of God's utopian temple. Following the approach of Moshe Greenberg, the author of the preceding Anchor Yale Bible commentaries on Ezekiel, this volume grounds interpretation of the book in an intimate acquaintance with Ezekiel's source materials, its particular patterns of composition and rhetoric, and the general learned, priestly workings of the Ezekiel school. The commentary honors Greenberg's legacy by including insights from traditional Jewish commentators, such as Rashi, Kimhi, and Eliezer of Beaugency. In contrast to preceding commentaries, the book devotes special attention to the Zadokite idea of an indwelling, anthropomorphic "body" of God, and the enlivening effect on people and land of that indwelling.

Book Synopsis Guns and Suicide by : Michael D. Anestis
Download or read book Guns and Suicide written by Michael D. Anestis and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2018-01-08 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The majority of gun deaths in the United States are suicide deaths, and the majority of suicide deaths are gun deaths. Most people are unaware that suicide, at nearly 43,000 deaths per year, is more common than homicide and other widely publicized tragedies. And yet, suicide is typically absent from discussions of gun violence. As such, the national conversation on gun violence is inadequate and unrelated to the majority of gun deaths in this country. In Guns and Suicide, Michael Anestis reframes our perspective on gun violence by shifting the focus to suicide. Guns play a uniquely profound role in American suicide, and Anestis explains how they have this effect-not by making otherwise non-suicidal people want to die, but by facilitating suicide attempts among suicidal individuals. He reviews the evidence - in suicide and other public health concerns - that focusing on specific means for contracting an unwanted outcome (e.g., HIV) can successfully reduce the frequency of that outcome. With suicide, this could mean the passage of legislation related to firearm ownership and storage, non-legislative encouragement of safe storage of private firearms, voluntary and temporary removal of firearms from the home during times of distress, or a combination of these factors. Importantly, this is not a book about gun control. Anestis does not argue in favor of tighter restrictions on ownership, assault weapon bans, or longer waiting periods for purchase because these will not substantially reduce the staggering gun suicide rate. Rather, Anestis aims for a cultural shift towards suicide-specific safe gun ownership and puts forth unemotional suggestions in hopes of leveraging common ground in the pursuit of a lower suicide rate.
