Download or read book Why Four Gospels? written by A. W. Pink and published by Whitaker House. This book was released on 2017-11-14 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why does the New Testament contain four Gospels—four different accounts of the same Man? And don’t the Gospels contradict one another? Masterful Bible teacher Arthur Pink explains how the four Gospels do not contradict but rather collaborate in order to provide us with a deeper, multifaceted description of the person of Jesus Christ. In Matthew, we see Jesus as Messiah and King of the Jews. In Mark, we are introduced to the Servant of Jehovah. In Luke, we see the human Jesus as the Son of Man, Adam’s descendant. Finally, in John, we thrill to the supernatural Jesus who is undoubtedly the Son of God. No believer can truly know Jesus without having an understanding of the four distinct roles He fulfilled in His time on earth. Pink’s in-depth look at the four Gospels will boost your faith and bring you ever closer to a Savior who is fully human, fully divine, and above everything, Lord of all.
Book Synopsis Why are There Differences in the Gospels? by : Mike Licona
Download or read book Why are There Differences in the Gospels? written by Mike Licona and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why are there differences in the stories of the Gospels? Licona turns to Greek classicist Plutarch for an answer, assessing differences that appeared when Plutarch told the same story more than once in his Lives. He suggests the differences in the Gospels often resulted from their authors employing the same compositional devices used by Plutarch.
Book Synopsis The Four Gospels by : Archbishop Averky (Taushev)
Download or read book The Four Gospels written by Archbishop Averky (Taushev) and published by Holy Trinity Publications. This book was released on 2015-08-01 with total page 519 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Writing in the tradition of biblical exegetes, such as St John Chrysostom and Blessed Theophylact of Bulgaria, the work of Archbishop Averky (Taushev) provides a commentary that is firmly grounded in the teaching of the Church, manifested in its liturgical hymnography and the works of the Holy Fathers. Analyzing all four Gospels chronologically and simultaneously, he allows readers to see the life of Christ as an unfolding narrative in accessible, direct language. Using the best of prerevolutionary Russian sources, these writings also remained abreast of developments in Western biblical scholarship, engaging with it directly and honestly. He approaches the Gospels first and foremost not as a literary work of antiquity, but as the revelation of Jesus Christ as God in the flesh. Archbishop Averky's commentaries on the New Testament have become standard textbooks in Holy Trinity Orthodox Seminary and have been published in Russia to widespread acclaim. This present volume is the first translation of these texts into English and it is an indispensable addition to the library of every student of the Gospels.

Download or read book The Ministry of Jesus Christ, the Messiah written by Glenn Brunner and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2018-06-08 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ministry of Jesus Christ, the Messiah is an abridged compilation of the four gospelsone continuous writing containing the words of Christ so the reader can read and study the entire ministry of Jesus Christ in one continuous fluid document. Also included in appendices are biblical presentations of Creation and the Flood and other important Christian statements of belief, such as the Apostolic and Nicene Creeds. The following four Bible study topics are included: 1. The Lords Prayer 2. Messiah by George Frideric Handel 3. Precepts of the Christian faith 4. Joy, peace, and contentment Modern day English translations of the four Gospels were used or referenced by the author. When the Apostles spoke of the same event, their words were blended into one account. The author worked to ensure thought or meaning from Scripture containing a description of an event was not lost. If not absolutely clear that the same event was being written about, or if the event could not logically be taken out of context of the particular book, then no blending of text was done. Footnotes help explain key thoughts presented in Scripture because translation from the original Greek does not often lend itself to the modern English language nor common grammatical form, hence the many different translations available today. Regardless of whether a translation uses a very literal translation of Greek or a simpler paraphrase, the original meaning or thought the Lord intended can be unclear without reference to other Scripture.

Book Synopsis The Priority of John by : John A. T. Robinson

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been the fate of many books on John to be left unfinished, for its interpretation naturally forms the crowning of a lifetime. I have myself been intending to write a book on the Fourth Gospel since the 'fifties, before I broke off (reluctantly) to be Bishop of Woolwich, though I am grateful now that I did not produce it prematurely at that time. It means however that I shall be compelled to refer to and often recapitulate material directly or indirectly related to the Johannine literature, which I have written over the years (some of it indeed while I was bishop). Many scholars in fact, if not most now, think that the author of the Gospel himself never lived to finish it and have seen the work as the product of numerous hands and redactors. As will become clear, I prefer to believe that the ancient testimony of the church is correct that John wrote it 'while still in the body' and that its roughnesses, self-corrections and failures of connection, real or imagined, are the result of its not having been smoothly or finally edited. If so I am in good company. At any rate who could wish for a better last testimony from his friends than that 'his witness is true' (John 21.24)? In other words, he got it right--historically and theologically. --from the Introduction At the time of his death in December 1983, John Robinson had completed the text of the book on which his 1984 Bampton lectures were to be based, so that it is possible to see the full details of his extremely controversial argument that the Gospel of John was the first Gospel to be written. Dr. Robinson himself once described the dawning of his conviction that this was the case as a 'Damascus Road experience', and his presentation of the evidence is made with all the customary vigor with which he would argue for something in which he deeply believed. The objections which need to be overcome to stand on its head what has long been one of the fundamental assumptions of New Testament scholarship are substantial, but here once again Dr. Robinson shows that so much of what is taken as established fact in that area is no more than preference and presumption. Certainly he will provoke rethinking on a whole series of topics, from the chronology of Jesus' ministry to the nature of his teaching. As The Listener said of the equally controversial Redating the New Testament: The greatest pleasure Dr. Robinson gives is purely intellectual. His book is a prodigious virtuoso exercise in inductive reasoning and an object lesson in the nature of historical argument and historical knowledge. This sequel equals, if not excels, its predecessor in those respects and is a fitting tribute to a brilliant New Testament scholar. The manuscript was prepared for publication by Dr. Chip Coakley, Dr Robinson's pupil, now Lecturer in Religious Studies in the University of Lancaster.
