Book Synopsis The Flow of Power by : Vernon Lee Scarborough
Download or read book The Flow of Power written by Vernon Lee Scarborough and published by School for Advanced Research R. This book was released on 2003 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A major contribution to one of the central themes in social theory, this book integrates multiple case studies of the relationship between water control and social organization. Substantial in empirical detail and featuring powerful theoretical extensions, Scarborough's analysis encompasses early Harappan society in South Asia, highland Mexico, the Maya lowlands, north-central Sri Lanka, the prehistoric American Southwest, and Bronze Age Greece. This book is the first longitudinal study to consider water management worldwide since Karl Wittfogel put forth his "hydraulic societies" hypothesis nearly two generations ago, and it draws together the diverse debates that seminal work inspired. In so doing, Scarborough offers new models for cross-cultural analysis and prepares the ground for new examinations of power, centralization, and the economy.

She is the only being—a mere human—that has ever thwarted its raw hunger to feed on the emotions and memories stemming from brain neurons throughout its long lifespan. With her sister Jade as the unwilling host, the parasitic creature is far stronger than it ever has been. Defeating such evil without harming her sibling becomes a desperate trial of instinct and survival. With the power of the great river of magic dwindling, Crystalyn’s symbol magic is crucial against the alien’s aggression, with its horde of controlled people and a black dragon. Meanwhile, a young and untrained User of magic makes his way across the land unknowingly tied to Crystalyn’s fate. Even with their collective strength, it may not be enough for anyone to survive what came from the cold darkness of space. Whether of Dark or Light affinity, human or nonhuman, all must stand against it or succumb to a state of mind worse than death…

The book also includes: A thorough introduction to power system operation, including economic and environmental dispatch, optimal power flow, and hosting capacity Comprehensive explorations of the mathematical background of power system operation, including quadratic forms and norms and the basic theory of optimization Practical discussions of convex functions and convex sets, including affine and linear spaces, politopes, balls, and ellipsoids In-depth examinations of convex optimization, including global optimums, and first and second order conditions Perfect for undergraduate students with some knowledge in power systems analysis, generation, or distribution, Mathematical Programming for Power System Operation with Applications in Python is also an ideal resource for graduate students and engineers practicing in the area of power system optimization.
Book Synopsis Power System Modelling and Scripting by : Federico Milano
Download or read book Power System Modelling and Scripting written by Federico Milano and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-09-08 with total page 558 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Power system modelling and scripting is a quite general and ambitious title. Of course, to embrace all existing aspects of power system modelling would lead to an encyclopedia and would be likely an impossible task. Thus, the book focuses on a subset of power system models based on the following assumptions: (i) devices are modelled as a set of nonlinear differential algebraic equations, (ii) all alternate-current devices are operating in three-phase balanced fundamental frequency, and (iii) the time frame of the dynamics of interest ranges from tenths to tens of seconds. These assumptions basically restrict the analysis to transient stability phenomena and generator controls. The modelling step is not self-sufficient. Mathematical models have to be translated into computer programming code in order to be analyzed, understood and “experienced”. It is an object of the book to provide a general framework for a power system analysis software tool and hints for filling up this framework with versatile programming code. This book is for all students and researchers that are looking for a quick reference on power system models or need some guidelines for starting the challenging adventure of writing their own code.

State Estimation in Electric Power Systems: A Generalized Approach crystallizes thirty years of WLS state estimation theory and practice in power systems and focuses on techniques adopted by state estimation developers worldwide. The book also reflects the experience of developing industrial-grade state estimation software that is used in the USA, South America, and many other places in world.
Book Synopsis Optimal Operation and Control of Power Systems Using an Algebraic Modelling Language by : Nnamdi Nwulu
Download or read book Optimal Operation and Control of Power Systems Using an Algebraic Modelling Language written by Nnamdi Nwulu and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-04 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents mathematical models of demand-side management programs, together with operational and control problems for power and renewable energy systems. It reflects the need for optimal operation and control of today’s electricity grid at both the supply and demand spectrum of the grid. This need is further compounded by the advent of smart grids, which has led to increased customer/consumer participation in power and renewable energy system operations. The book begins by giving an overview of power and renewable energy systems, demand-side management programs and algebraic modeling languages. The overview includes detailed consideration of appliance scheduling algorithms, price elasticity matrices and demand response incentives. Furthermore, the book presents various power system operational and control mathematical formulations, incorporating demand-side management programs. The mathematical formulations developed are modeled and solved using the Advanced Interactive Multidimensional Modeling System (AIMMS) software, which offers a powerful yet simple algebraic modeling language for solving optimization problems. The book is extremely useful for all power system operators and planners who are concerned with optimal operational procedures for managing today’s complex grids, a context in which customers are active participants and can curb/control their demand. The book details how AIMMS can be a useful tool in optimizing power grids and also offers a valuable research aid for students and academics alike.
